The guy’s proof that you can’t balloon like that between fights… I hope younger fighters took notice of that.
duran is another example
Hell yeah Roach is saying it’s a go!!!

I’m going to have to wait until the fight is finalized before I believe it’s happening, I think Arum will probably shoot down everything Schaefer proposes.
On Hatton’s weight gain: I was reading this article quite some time ago about him and his ballooning up between fights, it said he’d consume 12 pints of Guinness, a full English breakfast, and fried food/fast food/Chinese food on a daily basis. I’m surprised he’s been able to make weight this long.
People are getting to caught up in what has recently happened. Whoever one of the two fought more recently, seems to have the nod of the people to destroy the other. I still think manny can crush him. May is amazing and I love his work ethic but look at his recent fights, 38 year old shane and 36 year old ballon Marquez. The last fighter in his prime that he faced was hatton and come on, He wasn’t really that great. Pac throws an unbelievable number of punches and even if may counters, he’s not gonna hurt him he’s just gonna walk right through them(like with cotto). May has no power and his recent success has been enhanced by his competition, pac to a certain degree aswell but he has proved in my eyes to be the better fighter. So, pac throwing an amazing number of punches per round + may having no power to hurt pac with his counters+ may not being a volume puncher = a manny win.
I’ll say this, If may pulls it off… He deserves to go down as top 10 greatest of alltime.

Marquez hurt PacMan more than once. Mayweather is bigger, stronger and a better counter puncher. He can definitely knock PacMan out.

To add to this…its not just the counter punching its about position and controlling the fight. How many punches you think Mosley normally throws? Alot! Floyd didnt allow Mosley to throw, by keeping him out of position. I guarantee Pac does not throw 100+ punches around like he normally does.
Lets say Pac and Mosley fought. It would have been a fuckin war, that Pac would have won and probably knocked Shane out. They both would have thrown 100+ punches a round. Pac would have either worn Shane down, or knocked him out. BUT Pac would have allowed Shane to get those punches off and his face would have looked like shit, just like it did after the Clottey fight. but probably worse.
Mayweather has BigBoy Defense and BigBoy boxing skills…LOL Power? I wouldnt be surprised if he caught Pac walking into something to end the fight. Do I expect that to happen? no

So if he beats a guy that he’s supposed to beat he goes down as top ten all time? Maybe top 20.

I don’t see how people can criticize Mayweather’s opponents when Pacquiao hasn’t had a legitimate fight since Marquez II.

Pac has had mostly legitimate fights. Diaz was a mediocre fighter, and DLH was near death, so I don’t count them, but Hatton was definitely a contender after whipping Paulie Malignaggi so badly, Cotto is a tough fighter, and Clottey was what was left out there.
That’s better than Mayweather fighting Marquez, a blown up lightweight fighting above 140 for the first time ever.
Mayweather’s opponents before that, between Hatton and DLH, were both great fighters though.

If he’s considered one of the best ever who’s he not supposed to beat?

Malignaggi shows that Hatton was “back”? I don’t see it quite as that. Malignaggi is a good fighter but he’s somewhat the Clottey of junior welterweight: a person that’s never capitalized on opportunities and is more of a measuring stick. And in all honesty is wasn’t by chance that Hatton fought Lazcano then Malignaggi, they were fights to get him back in the ring after losing to Mayweather. People had also lost quite a lot of faith in Hatton after the loss to Mayweather, that’s exactly why he fired his previous trainer and Kerry Kayes.
Personally I’d have to say Cotto is just riding off his nationality and fame prior to losing to Margarito. I like Cotto and he’s truly a nice person, but he’s really past his time of being an elite fighter. Foreman is the only person really being marketed for the Cotto/Foreman fight, I think Top Rank is trying to set up Pacquiao/Foreman and is trying to give Cotto one last fight. I think Cotto can take Foreman, Foreman can be quite apprehensive at times… But Cotto has faded so much since losing to Margarito that the loss to Pacquiao only proved how much he’s faded, the close fight with Clottey did too. Cotto was practically dead on his feet for the last few rounds the last few rounds with Clottey, he also aimlessly moped around the ring against Pacquiao.
I disagree with you on Clottey too, that fight was to keep Pacquiao in the ring and line Arum’s pocket. There were four fights that could have been better, I believe they weren’t pursued because of promoters representing the fighters though: Pacquiao/Mosley, Pacquiao/Berto, Pacquiao/Bradley, or Pacquiao/Alexander.
I think the combination of losing, constant “yo-yo dieting”, and completely changing his training staff just sealed his fate. And to be honest Hatton and De La Hoya were very much fights to accomplish Bob Arum’s goal of placing Pacquiao in the position of Floyd Mayweather before his retirement: the biggest name in boxing. I suppose I really just didn’t believe in him at that point and didn’t think of him as a true test for Pacquiao.
It’s sad to see Cotto in his current state, I’m happy to still have Juanma though. I think he can beat Foreman, but he really wont be an elite fighter ever again unless he gets himself together. But if Cotto wins Arum can’t market Pacquiao/Cotto II, that’s exactly why I think this is Cotto’s last chance to reclaim his career while also building up Foreman for a possible[likely] fight with Pacquiao.
I agree with Roach, Mosley would be a hard fight for Pacquiao[even currently]… But he would have been a much bigger and meaningful fight for Pacquiao. Bradley and Alexander were more marketable, more entertaining, but were more high risk/low reward than Clottey. I don’t think any boxing fan was surprised by Clottey just showing up to collect a paycheck, he never finishes fights anyway. They both probably come in at the welterweight limit during fights and Arum expressed interest in bringing a fighter up in weight classes to fight Pacquiao in an exciting fight, the difference being that Arum promoted the fighter he was hoping on bringing to 147 lol. I think Berto could take Pacquiao at that point, it could be why they avoided fighting for Berto’s title. Really I’m just disagreeing on Clottey being the only fight available, better fights could have been made… But Arum wouldn’t of made 20% or more of the other fighter’s purse, which is probably why Clottey was chosen as Mayweather’s replacement.
boy this thread really took off didnt it?

LOL Cuban boxers never do well on the professional level, their body never recovers from swimming from Cuba to wherever they defect to. Gamboa will be crushed like plátanos used to make jibaritos.
