I currently wake up at 5, generally drink a protein/carb shake, and take a shower to wake myself up, followed by heading to the gym at about 6 using Surge Recovery during my workout.
What are some good ways to wake myself up and activate my body a little better. Most days I can get up and at em, but some days I really cant.
I’ve read the live spill about activation and am awaiting an answer from the big guy on activation type workouts for people who lift early in the morning and can’t do it a few hours ahead of time. So what I’m asking for is YOUR guys’ tips and advice on morning workouts.
Cool. Sounds a bit what like I do. Nice warm shower. Shadow box in front of the window with all the lights on while it’s still dark out in my underwear.
My gym ain’t that big bro lol I’m not proud of the gym I have to use. It gets the job done, but I am not proud of it. I just shower when I get up. My warm up and feeler sets should suffice I guess. I do a little bit of activation before I start any worksets. Nothing extreme though, just what a buddy suggested.

Like really explosively slam that bitch into the ground and by the end of the 3rd set you feel so pumped! A lil speed metal in the earphones combined with this can only do wonders
This is probably really obvious and you no doubt do this but pound some caffeine and an apple. Also L-carnitine can help - Poliquin wrote a good article on here about it but can’t find the link right now. Then at the gym some BW jump squats, med ball slams as suggested above, and some clap plyometric push ups.
I get up at 2:45 am and MAKE SURE I immediately get out of bed and hit the bathroom to brush my teeth and gather my things for the gym. I have to shower at the gym after the workout to catch my van pool to work so everything is ready the night before.
As soon as I get to the kitchen (about 3:00am), I prepare my first shake-meal of the day (my pre-workout protein with Superfood and flaxseed. I have a cup of coffee and a HOT-ROX and wait until about 3:40 before leaving the house to the gym which is about 5 min. away. Hopefully, the shake and coffee has gotten by bowels moving first before I hit my workout.
At the gym I spend about 3 min of fast pace work on the elliptical machine then head over to either the squat or power rack. I then do about 10 minutes of body weight exercises to warmup all the muscles. I especially get my shoulders loose. By the time I finish my warmup I’m sweating and slightly out of breath and ready to start my first warmup sets which I go through quickly. I’m finished with my weight work (right now I’m on the V-Diet and doing the prescribed workouts but prior I was into my eighth cycle of 5/3/1) at about 4:50am and hit the locker room, down my Surge Recovery, shower, and get off to work.
It isn’t easy. But you have to make your feet hit the floor and not stop until the workout is done.
