I’ve been doing this for a few years now as a pre-bed snack/meal (if I’m trying to gain ill usually stick in large tablespoon of smooth PB). Really enjoy it and (not a problem for you) it gives you another 50g+ of protein for the day.
Mines fat free, but that’s by virtue of brand convenience and them not doing full fat.
I think it’s more an indication of how eating ultra-processed hyperpalatble junk has generationally ruined our ability to appreciate simple tastes and pleasures. Even plain Greek yogurt has an enjoyable flavor.
Full cream milk! This is something my wife cannot understand, how i can drink plain milk. Apparently it tastes like “animal”, which is very odd given her taste for all things meat.
i still smash greek yoghurt daily, with a phat scoop of vanilla whey. But also love it plain. And also Love full cream milk. Honestly as a single beverage it up near the very top for me in taste. EVen during my younger Gomad days i was never once put off it. Haha.
I mix greek yoghurt into the chicken meals i make for meal prepping also. Fresh dollop on top. So good.
Right on cue with dietary changes. My wife and I both teach Health at school and we’re in the Nutrition unit. I guess Trump scrapped the ol My Plate guidelines and changed the serving sizes. My Plate recommended 6-11 servings of grains and the new guidelines say 2-4!
I love it. Research study after research study shows the benefits of cutting junk sugar from the diet whether it’s health or behavior. There’s one study that found that basically every participant with ADHD stopped showing symptoms when sugar was removed from their diet.
The downside is that our curriculum is set up for My Plate and now we need to scramble to fix it. I’m cool with it but most PE teachers are just mailing it in and won’t do anything in their own.
I find this very interesting given my sons condition. For my son sugar could well be an issue but just getting him to eat anything is more of a concern. I wonder if the study gave any good ways to actually get medicated people with ADHD to eat full stop.
I spent a week in Sun Valley at a conference some years back. The keynote was Gabor Mate’. I ended up attending all of his break out sessions. He was big on cutting sugar out of the diet to improve ADHD symptoms. I would recommend looking him up. I read Scattered Minds years ago. I need to find a copy and reread it.
I honestly can’t think of a single condition or health issue that isn’t affected by added sugar. Countless have been shown to show improvement by cutting it out.
Really wonderful discussion here folks. What I find the most frustrating in regards to the discussion on improving our nutrition on a societal level is the misunderstanding of application of available information. I find that the folks deeply entrenched in the scientific world don’t step back enough to look at the actual population we have to work with. I see folks striking back AGAINST the demonization of added sugars, processed sugars, hyperprocessed foods, industrial seed oils, etc, because they say the same thing. “According to randomized human control trials, when you control for diabetes, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, and insulin resistance, a metabolically healthy and functional individual does NOT experience ill effects when they consume these products”.
Ok, cool: good luck finding THAT unicorn in our population. EVERYONE is sick these days, and we need to stop the bleeding FIRST before we start worrying about self-actualization (thanks Maslow!). And so that’s most likely going to mean an elimination of these things that, when applied to a metabolically healthy person are fine but, to a metabolically healthy person: are poison. “A spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down”: Hey Mary: Not if they’re diabetic!

Notes:
I was excited for this training day. Making it only 3 sets of squats/press and a set of deads makes it super digestible. I’m actually considering splitting it, and doing the squats and presses in the morning and saving the pulls for the afternoon. Something to consider.
The squats weren’t QUITE as silky-smooth as Monday, but still feeling solid.
It took everything in my power to NOT go for more sets on the mat pulls, but my hip never recovered from last week and this workout definitely regressed it a little. Cutting it off when I did will allow me to heal more, and I have to remember that I’m training for a competition, so ultimately I need to be healthy when that rolls around. But my strength is doing AWESOME. Another week of 19 reps, where I had it in me to push for some more if I wanted to.
Weighed in at 85.3kg this morning. Been so long since I had carbs that I got to experience that post carb up “whoosh”. Also a sign on of the effectiveness of the coffee fasting. My weight belt is fitting much better. I’m digging how simple and sustainable this approach is.
Got in a 1:10 hold last night. Seems to be where I average out when training daily.
My instructor gave me high praise on my techniques last night. Said I looked like a whole new student. I informed him that my physical therapy was really paying off, and not being in constant pain has allowed me to get into deeper stances with more fluid movement. Good to get the feedback. I’m missing tonight’s class, but I put an idea in his head for Thursday: board break “horse”. Call your shot, break the board, everyone else tries to copy.
Those are impressive axle presses. It is good to see someone get up (alarm or no alarm) and get to work. As much as I like to sleep, for a short period (up for a session) there are things more important.
Much appreciated @Friedrich ! It really is the family that compels me. On Monday, the Valkyrie was going to come home late, which meant dinner was going to be late. I realized I could have slept in and trained before dinner…OR I could have gotten up early, trained, and then had pre-dinner time to play Mario Kart with my kid on the Switch2 that Santa got them for Christma.
