I guess I didn’t say it since I was too busy thinking about Snickers…
Almost everything you said was spot on. I have parts of my extended family just like that, and it’s been a contagious small-town thing. Fortunately some of the younger generation broke away from that (even the ones who moved back). I was around a lot of areas and people like that, and glad I moved away. Only so much I could do.
On the opposite extreme is my mother in law who did a 1500’ vertical dusty rocky switchback hike when she first visited us. In heels. Lots of ego to prove she was as good as/better than us, lol.
Well I’m no cartoon afficinado but my gf introduced me to the series and I really enjoyed it. I could really imagine you would dig the style and atmosphere it is set in and I could see how you’d appreciate the goon himself from what you’ve said about some of the super heros you like. I will also say that it can be offensive at times, depending on one’s sensitivity levels. Which is on purpose but if one gets upset by that and/ or can’t read past that, I would understand how they might not enjoy it much. Just adding that part of the recommendation because I have no idea if that’s unusual for a comic. It is very gritty and dark at times, which I really liked.
@LoRez It’s honestly a pretty awesome way to spend some time together. No expectations: just enjoy our time. And she gets to laugh at me the next day because I’m a wreck, haha.
@Koestrizer I appreciate that breakdown. I’ll have to give it a look.
@tlgains Hey thanks man! Definitely living the GPP life these days. And lunch and dinner was just as I predicted: I got 5 patties with swiss at Culvers, and a half rack of ribs with some pulled pork.
Slept until 0700, got up, knocked out some squats and push ups, amazing breakfast, some lunch out at Panda Express (large ala carte teriyaki chicken), came home and knocked out these mat pulls

I was curious how this would go after that race. I was stiff and played it a little smarter and didn’t push too stupidly far. I think the Panda Express was honestly more of a variable: kept feeling myself wanting to burp it up. Funny enough, my belt was snug today and I just assumed it was bloat…only to find out I had snagging the top of my waistline in the belt. When I adjusted, I discovered how LOOSE my belt is fitting: that famine showed off it’s impact.
Making a tri tip and some corned beef for dinner. Gonna be a good night.
I’ve always liked this shorthand reminder. Having just moved to a new city with a whole new set of supermarkets to navigate, it’s great to have one thing that’s constant in supermarkets pretty much everywhere!
@burien_top_team Along with that, I’m finding it easy to think “if it’s got a label on it: don’t eat it”, haha. It’s amazing how much “non-food” there is at a grocery store. Hell, I’ve watched “The Food That Built America” series on the History Channel, and it’s really “The JUNKfood that Built America”. It’s amazing how much of this stuff is just in our culture, and we have to unlearn how to eat.
A piedmontese grassfed tri trip on the right, and a pressurecooked corned beef brisket on the left. Tri tip was a little more done than I prefer, but the family walked away happy, and I somehow managed to have leftovers.
And forgot to mention that I went for a 2 mile walk with the dog right after those mat pulls. Really dig what Dan John has to say about getting in that walk immediately post workout.
My body is continuing to let me know that I am pretty stupid, and I decided to sleep in this morning rather than try to run a DoggCrapp workout while moving like the Tin Man.
In truth, I may just make sleeping in on Mondays a normal thing. We’ve changed up the schedule a little, and I’m making dinner on Sundays, vs the family meal we were doing then. We’ve moved that to Mondays, and I kinda like eating that and then smashing a workout afterwards. And it’s nice to ease back into the week this way. Also nice that I don’t feel like I HAVE to get up and train.
Weighed myself and even with a weekend of a lot of salty food, I’m down half a kilo, at 83.0. The famine is over, the feast begins.
Ah, not at all. I wasn’t running for time: I was running so I could spent 10 miles and a lovely morning in step with my Valkyrie. We got to talk and bond after a week apart: it was amazing.
@LoRez Hah! So much stupid marketing. You see it all the time. “Fat free grapes”. I’d sure HOPE so!

Notes:
Decided to sleep in today, and schedule was able to support. Got in afternoon training, which I also did the last time I did this workout, so it was easy to do an apples to apples.
This workout definitely pushed up the challenge level. I managed to progress of every movement, but I had to fight for it. Today was a fasting day, so I came into this off of 6 servings of Metabolic Drive over the span of 14 hours, so that may have played a role. Post workout was legit thought: Tuna Casserole, some crescent rolls, fried eggs and some homemade oatmeal peanut butter chocolate chip cookies. Been a LONG time since I did the whole “crush a workout, crush a meal”: was good to revisit that. I may make that a regular thing for Mondays at this rate.
My right shoulder was practically slipping out of the socket on the swiss bar press. I’ve noticed that on this a few times. If it persists, I may throw on the slingshot to bypass the bottom portion.
Chins have progressed decently. Good to reclaim that.
I am very pleased with the trap bar lift performance. I’m rediscovering being a puller again. Finding that other gear. I had to reset from the bottom before rep 5, because the handles were tilting, which created a new challenge. And in full disclosure, my kid came into the garage at rep 10 to tell me that dinner was going to be ready in 5 minutes, and knowing that they were watching me, I was able to find that 11th rep. We always want to impress our kids.
I think of that as the inner outer section. You’ve got to go in a little bit to get your olive oil and canned diced tomatoes, for instance. But you won’t find dancing boxes of neon-colored cereal there, like you will in the inner-inner section.
You just have to make sure that if you go to the rice aisle you go only as far as necessary and no further, because there be dragons. Rice mixes that might as well be POISON or CANDY!!!
