Do you still smoke meats or is that more of a treat because of how good it tastes?
@freshyfresh No issue with smoking meats at all: itās a very natural way to cook. Only thing limiting me is the time investment for doing it, alongside the weather. But if I ever have the time for it, itās my preferred way to cook.
This is definitely where I live with hot sauce, on the razors edge between enjoyable and painful.
Killer workouts as always dude! Just catching up on the last 30 or so posts.
@mr.v3lv3t Much appreciated dude! And I was the same way: playing in that hot sauce arms race. Now, after months without, itās crazy how sensitive I am to spice. And what clearer sign that āplants are trying to kill youā: spice hurts going in AND out! Haha.
Just gonna post this image here for the next time I see someone write something like ā5/3/1 doesnāt have enough volumeā
Thatās cool to see you got a different message than ājust go with the flow, manā.
Thereās a whole thing in practice about separating āattentionā from āintentionā. Pay full attention to a process unfolding but leave it alone, just observe the process and the chains of cause and effect.
Then eventually if and when you do interact, you can work with these natural processes, putting the right things/causes in place so the right things happen naturally as an effect.
Thanks for that write up, Iām curious how does the eat when hungry, donāt when not work with feast/famine, my thinking is that one would actually be hungry a lot during famine and one probably wouldnāt feel like eating too the point of weight gain during feast.
Judging by your results clearly not the case for you. Might just be my natural inclination to not eat and my struggle to gain weight projecting here!
Ha! Iāve never actually had any issue with the spice on its way out. I have maced myself a few times preparing food with peppers though.
@mr.v3lv3t It hasnāt happened to me often, but when it did, it made me question all my decisions, haha.
@alex_uk Love to discuss. Iāll clarify that feast and famine isnāt part of Chaos is the Plan: itās simply a permutation one can make. I wouldnāt have someone do it starting off, primarily because after years of eating a standard diet, most of us have jacked up hunger signals and food relationships that entering an intentional famine/feast is going to make things worse. However, after enough time of simply eating when hungry and stopping when not, weāll have a better understanding of that.
From there, something interesting happens. We experience hunger because we need NUTRITON, NOT food. Or, put another way, we need food, not āfoodā or food-like substances. Obesity is a disease of being overfed and undernourished: people suffering from obesity are often ALSO malnourished, because the āfoodā they are filling themselves with is nutritionally void. But, after enough time spent eating REAL food, our body and mind develops an appropriate hunger/response relationship. We experience hunger, we feed the body REAL nutrition, hunger goes away. And when the body ACTUALLY has nutrition, it doesnāt get hungry again for a LONG time. Contrast this with those people (myself included) who are ALWAYS hungry after meals, always snacking, always grazing, etc. They eat, but never feed.
So once we have THAT fixed, entering a period of āfamineā is less about being hungry all the time and more a matter of WHAT we are eating. When I famine, I pretty much slash the majority of dietary fat out of my diet. Iāll rely heavily on Metabolic Drive, egg whites, and VERY lean meat (currently a LOT of wild venison, but also grassfed piedmontese sirloin). I take Flameout to keep my hormones healthy and not die (death is very catabolic), and if family dinners have fatty meats/whole eggs Iāll eat them, but whenever my nutrition is in my control, thereās no fats. During a feast, I go the opposite route: if I CAN eat fat, I will. Meal structures can remain the same, but meal compositions will vary.
And once again, neither is about gaining or losing. The famine PREPARES the body for the feast. When we feast for too long, our body adjusts to that input, and it no longer has the impact it once did. But when we famine beforehand, we get the body to the point where itās VERY efficient at squeezing out every last bit of nutrition from itās food, only to then FLOOD it with nutrition. And, consequently, that makes the FAMINE so effective: just when the body decides there is an abundance of food and it can be less efficient, we slash the rations and it strips away any adipose tissue, putting us in a very anabolic state.
Hope that clears things up! And happy to discuss more.
Today was an awesome day. Had the day off work, slept in until the Mrs alarm went off, got in 100 push ups and 100 prisoner squats, took the wolf for a 3 mile walk, did this workout
14x260+chains breathing squats
Rest 5 minutes
40x225 breathing squats w/pull overs
I was fasting since I woke up, because after this I took my kid to Texas de Brazil and we ate steak, chicken and pork for 90 solid minutes
After that, I came home and did a 4+ mile walk to help digest, and then an awesome Tang Soo Do class. 1 BIG meal today and thatās it. Iām still satiated. This is a helluva wake to kick off the feast!
Talking about that workout for a second: I am TOAST! With a 3 week famine and all the hard training, my lower back tapped out on the first set of squats. I still wanted to do SOMETHING anabolic before I ate so much meat, and was very pleased to find those 40 squats hiding inside of me. No pressing overhead today: Iām really burnt out on training, just in time for my cruise coming up. Be an awesome deload, and Iāll be ready to attack from there. Iāll still sneak in SOME workouts between then and my return, but right now itās about family, feasting and living.
Dude that sounds similar to the definition diet in Keys to Progress.
He allowed for a bit more fat, but yeah, that book was SO ahead of itās time. Iām on my 3rd re-read of it right now and I keep re-discovering elements of what Iām currently doing. LOTTA carnivore friendly take in there, and, if not carnivore, keto or paleo. We had it all figured out back then. PEDs really changed the game, and though it brought out some crazy freaks, it had us āforgetā how to eat and train.
Salute to the Pwnisher!
Seriously though, I respect your mental strength in that regard. Sticking to that in work related events/outings or family get togethers seems hard, at least to me anyway.
Edit: On the other note, in the Trimming Down section in Keys to Progress. It mentions how with the Definition Diet, you eat as much as you want and donāt cut calories. It resulted in fat loss and physique change
Throughout your training have you experienced something similar. When it comes to fat loss I think in terms of calories in and out.
Fantastic write up thanks, Iāve been following along and reading the blog but that just tied up the loose ends in my understanding, thanks Pwn you are such an asset to this place!
Also youāre a wonderfully entertaining writer.
What an absolutely fantastic post
Just want to say to anyone reading that I have been following a āchaos approachā for the last month and the results are mind boggling. Pwn has struck gold with this one.
I will expand on this in my own log. Apologies for the hijack
The book Iām currently reading speaks of allowing things to happen. Like growing tomatoes - plant and water, but you have to allow it to grow.
@tlgains Much appreciated dude. This is honestly stupidly easy to stick to. Just about EVERYWHERE has meat, eggs or cheese to eat, and if worse comes to worse, I can just fast. I can go VERY long without food these days: one of the benefits of being nourished. That bit from the definition definitely holds true with a carnivore styled approach, so long as the food isnāt seasoned and the food is food. Meat and eggs. Treat dairy like a dessert or condiment. And go with unprocessed meat and eggs: bacon is āmeat candyā and too easy to overeat, but if youāre taking down steaks, roasts, cutlets, etc, youāll stop eating when youāre done. Thereās also a LOT to be said about the thermic effect of food as it relates to protein: protein may āhaveā 4 calories per gram, but thereās a good chance we burn up 3 of those calories just trying to digest it.
These article discusses a bit of that
@alex_uk Really means so much for you to say all of that dude! If you ever go down this path, keep in touch. Iād love to help as your āspirit guideā, haha.
@ChongLordUno You never need to apologize for swinging by here dude, and your endorsement means so much. I couldnāt ask for a better acolyte.
Life is gonna be wild for the next 2 weeks. All great stuff. Family, feasting, healing.
Slept in, 50 push ups and squats, great breakfast, a workout of 5 minutes of 50lb weighted vest burpees and a walk with the wolf, chores, delicious lunch, and then this awesomely inspired workout
CHAOS IS THE PLAN: THE CIMMERIAN CHRONICLE Week 9, Workout 5: āWar of the Amazonsā
Alternate between Grace and Fran with EMOMs. Go until both WODs are finished. This is just AWESOME, because switching each minute keeps you far more honest for the sake of intensity. And I could blend even more WODs into this. I got this done within 16 rounds.
Family came into town, went out to Culverās for dinner, they accidentally put too much swiss cheese on my 5 burger patties, which is a mistake I didnāt feel like correcting. Letās hear it for the feast!
Tomorrow we feast even more, because we do up Christmas Eve big so we can do leftovers on Christmas day so that no one has to cook. Itās brilliant.
Thank you for the articles Pwn!
I have an idea of what I want to try this upcoming cutting phase.
I inherently believe if my diet was better, Iād see more results aesthetically. (Not to say Iām not seeing any).
@tlgains I absolutely support that theory. I think improved food quality always facilitates improved results, irrespective of if macros match. Iād love to hear what your plan is.
More awesome days with family. Feasted for a big midday meal on ham, grassfed beef sausage and some chicken meatballs, and just been getting in little bodyweight workouts here and there. Lots of prisoner squats, push ups and burpees. Little foreshadowing of my upcoming cruise.
Feast and Franmine yesterday. Had a wonderful Christmas, got in some squats and push ups and ran a quick Fran workout and some KB work for 10 minutes when I had some downtime, and did 5 mins of burpee chins while cleaning up wrapping paper.
Today is a travel day. Flying to Galveston to port out of my cruise. Fully intend to take in some Texas BBQ upon my arrival,
BUT, because I am an absolute psychopath, I woke up and, first thing this morning, did 85x185lb buffalo bar squats
Thatās a 8 rep PR there. MUCH closer to my limit than 77. I figured: since Iāll be away from heavy training for the next week, I may as well get in something ridiculous beforehand.
I may be able to check in here and there, but otherwise, happy new years folks!
Happy new year Pwn. Big love to you and the family mate.
