More Trouble Than I Am Worth: Chaos Is The Plan (T3hPwnisher Log)

@Euphemism2009 I appreciate that sentiment dude! Hoping to lead the charge.

@freshyfresh It’s a tough question to answer, because I don’t remember ever consciously making the decision to do conditioning every day, but I also know that I did live a long time by the principle that I HAD to have rest days. Do there was definitely a period where I wasn’t doing it and there was a period where I was, and something happened in the middle. I’ll say that the idea to do the short 3-5 minute conditioning blast everyday is a recent one and THAT one was a total Forest Gump sorta thing where I just decided to see how long I could do it for and the answer was “forever”.

Totally forgot to reply: this was my favorite era of MMA. Still a pioneering spirit with some awsome characters. Wandy was nuts! Just an animal. Dudes were so game.

Got in 40 burpees over bar in the PM. Body is feeling pretty wrecked. More food is the solution

Thank you so much, what an awesome and thorough write-up.

This helps place things in perspective a lot. You did a ton of work, literally years and years of different sports and lifting before you could do these amazing lifts.

Apart from the top-end strength, do you feel you are stronger now than a few years ago?
If I had to make a pick, I rather wrestle the dude with a 601 deadlift than a guy who can do this:
“Texas Deadlift Bar deadlifts
9x10x380lbs
1x10+5 deadstop rest pause x 380lbs”

@Panopticum Thanks for providing me the opportunity, haha.

That’s honestly a tough question, simply because I’ve spent the past few years in a stupidly low testosterone Hell. It was like 2 steps forward, 14 steps back. I remember hitting 5x10x405 on the squat doing BBB Beefcake, taking a week off and not being able to do 9x405 for a single set the next week. I’m NOW feeling like my old self and really starting to come back to what I want to be.

I will say that I would rather fight old me than current me, just because older me would give up sooner! Haha.

AM WORKOUT (0435 natural wake up) FASTED

CONDITIONING

30 min EMOM AMRAP of

  • 1 thruster w/95lbs
  • Burpee chins to fill the round

Add a thruster per round

Went 9-10-9-2 inside of 30 min

Notes:

  • I liked this for what I needed. Hit right around the intensity I was looking for, spared my lower back/glute and got the whole body juiced up.

  • Sparring last night wasn’t bad. I’m getting in a lot of silly head kicks. Sparring partner was really just not great, so I was capitalizing on a lot of mistakes. Decent workout.

It’s insane how you hit those numbers while dealing with low test. Imagine what you can achieve in 3 years with having your levels fixed.

Anyways, I see this as an opportunity to tell you again how much of an inspiration you are.

@Panopticum I really appreciate that dude. In 3 years I’ll be 40: that alone is pretty wild to me, haha.I feel like the new biggest x-factor is all the muscle tears I keep experiencing. If I can get ahead of them, I can really be in a good way.

20 standing ab wheels
30 GHRs

POST WORKOUT SHAKE
CONDITIONING

10 minute Juarez Valley workout: 20 KB swings w/40kg bell and 2 burpee chins between rounds

Was in the set of 14 swings when time ran out

50 dips
25 pushdowns
25 band curls

Notes:

  • Squats felt solid. Back/hips are in a good way, bar was in a great spot on my back, depth was feeling good toward the midpoint. I can feel myself shifting weight and GM-ing it up, but that’s simply me playing to my strengths. So long as the hamstring holds, I’m happy.

  • Pressing is hitting the point where it’s getting challenging, which is what’s going to force me to grow.

  • Played it easy this week with KB work and I feel like it had the intended effect. Connective tissues are happier. Right bicep is still being a little screwy, but it’s moving in the right direction. Getting those weighted chins is a victory as well. Still have some pain, but performance is there.

  • Still digging that assistance circuit idea. Moved away from Gorilla rows into more traditional rows, since the lat is willing to support.

  • Conditioning was on the lighter side, but got me some more swings. I have Tang Soo Do tonight, and intentions to do some burpees.

There are some truly amazing fighters, but everyone seems to be so well rounded these days we don’t get to see as much wild stuff as in the old days.

Occasionally we still get a barn burner like the recent Poirier/Chandler fight which was just fireworks start to finish, but they seem rare. Sometimes the under card is where it’s at. Or there’s always Barstools Rough n Rowdy…

@mr.v3lv3t Exactly right. Not nearly as much “heart” in it. Too robotic. Strongman has gone in a similar way.

Finished the day off with 40 burpees over bar. Starting to really find my groove on that. Weekend is coming, lots of good food and good times.

I highly encourage you to have a look at some of the UFC feeder leagues if you want fireworks. Shooto Brazil today was unreal. I’d never heard of any of them, but they let it all hang out, finishes left, right and centre.

Almost like a College vs NFL feel in a way

Really wish strongman didn’t become “Powerlifting 2.0”. I feel like my training needs a target goal like a competition to push me over the edge more. I am training the hardest I have in years (thanks 10K swing challenge for lighting that fire) but am meandering through things.

@cyclonengineer It’s the sad inevitable direction of all sports. You grow a fan base, the fans want it to become more accessible. Freak show sports are better when they’re freakshows. Hell, Powerlifting itself wasn’t powerlifting: the gear used to make it so “otherworldly” that it WAS inaccessible on the average level. Then raw came out and now EVERYONE can be a powerlifter…and even THEN people will call themselves powerlifters without ever doing a meet.

The lesson I keep learning is that people are awful and we should vote “no” on them when given the chance, haha.

Slept until 0700, got in 40 burpees over bar fasted, didn’t stop moving until 1900. Big thing was taking all the boxes out of the basement we were saving for when we moved next time and taking them to recycling. It was rewarding, but exhausting like moving all the same.

Got home from that chore at 1800, slammed a quick dinner and got this in at 1830

5 minutes of ABCs, performed EMOM
Into Tabata burpee into SoS to shoulder

Got 6 per round for the first 3 rounds, then 26 total from there.

Weekends are crazy

Well put.

I used to binge late 80s and early 90s WSM when it was replayed on ESPN classic (mostly because Lou Ferrigno competed) and the different tasks were always varied (outside of the obligatory atlas stones).

I get the pattern displayed, but I hate it.

Got caught up on about a months worth of your blog posts. I laughed out loud at a few bits from the lion and sheep post. And, I couldn’t agree more about Dinosaur Training.

@mr.v3lv3t Always good to have you as a reader dude, and glad you enjoyed those pieces. I was chuckling as I came up with the sheep thing, haha. It’s an interesting thing to think of.

@vlifter83 Thanks man! Good to have you along.

AMRAP in 8 min of

  • 20 KB swings w/40kg bell
  • 5 burpee chins

Got through 4 full, rounds, finished the swings on the 5th and 2 Burpee Chins before running out of time

30 GHRs

Notes:

  • Came in feeling strong this morning, and the presses moved well, but I was hurting on the squats. Right knee was tender, and left hip is feeling a little buggy at the moment. First squat looks rough, and it took a while for me to feel comfortable within the set, but I eventually started hitting my stride. This is the first workout where I really felt like I was approaching some limits and had to pace myself, and I about ripped off my right bicep re-racking the bar. I need to really watch my connective tissue on the way forward. I’m not running into the numbness issues I had the last go, so that’s something.

  • Rowing and chins continues to improve, but I’m taking longer to heal than I thought from that torn tricep. Deads are still a no go. Good mornings are absolutely brutal. Go Bruce Randall.

  • The conditioning was simple but effective. Daily work did the trick as well. Schedule is wild today, so we’ll see if anything else happens.
