that is a killer

Jesus Christ at the squats. You’re the only person I’ve seen so far who does rest pause squats
and you do one hell of an extended rest pause set too.

How long did it take to acclimatise to the deep water style nutrition?

I’ve been on it since Sunday and I have to say, last nights workout was a bit of a slog

I really want to make this work as well man

@ChongLordUno That’s outstanding that you’re taking that on. I had been using low carb since the early 2000s, so I had something of a head start. What’re you using for fat source? That can help with some energy.

AM WORKOUT (0321 natural wake up)

CHAOS IS THE PLAN Week 2, Day 2

33 rounds EMOM:

  • 3 chins various grips
  • 3 keg 1 motions w/155lb keg

1 extra rep on the 33rd round to get an even 100

  • 50 pull aparts
  • 50 dips
  • 25 pushdowns

POUNDSTONE CURLS
231xAxle

  • 40x90 reverse hypers
  • 20 standing ab wheels

POST WORKOUT SHAKE

CONDITIONING

30 reps of push-ups onto kettlebells into DKB clean and press w/24kg bells

Notes:

  • The keg work produced an interesting kind of fatigue. My lungs weren’t exploding, but I just feel flat and crushed. Keeping it at 3 reps the entire time was a solid enough challenge at the end. Still, cutting out the level change was a mistake. I thought the heavier weight on the keg combined with the brutality of the one-motion would be enough to scratch the itch, but there needs to be a “get off the floor” element.

  • Conditioning kinda fell flat too. It’s a broken down Devil’s press, going press instead of snatch at the top. It works “enough”, but wasn’t quite what I hoped for. But I got in a LOT of pressing today.

  • On that note: thinking ABCs later today, just to complete the insanity. This is also the first week in months where I don’t need to run all my training days back to back, so tomorrow will be some sort of conditioning day. That’s exciting. Also realized coming into work this morning that I forgot my deload week after Hardgainers. Whoops.

  • Bodycomp has improved in the 1 week of reduced cals. Just less bloat in general.

No pwn, but are you keeping up with electrolytes?

Avocados and olive oil mainly.

Eggs, chicken thighs, ground beef and Greek yoghurt as well

Yeah, salting everything and have electrolyte tablets

You ever eat any sort of nuts/nut butters? I really like those before training.

It’s worth appreciating that the energy is never going to be the same as it is with carbs. Carbs will give you that short burst-fire boost. Fats are more long, slow burning energy. When you DO bring carbs back in, it’ll be like rocket fuel.

Yeah man I should have said nut butter however I’ve been using that sparingly.

I actually feel OK as we speak. No ‘keto flu’ as of yet. Drinking a shit ton of water and salting that too now and again

As long as you stay away from garbage fat sources (trans fats, processed meats, etc), you should be good. Most often, cases of “keto flu” are from folks that are eating science fiction keto treats. Going legit Deep Water, with quality nutrition, should mean smooth sailing.

And you folks across the pond have GOOD meat and dairy.

That’s really appreciated man. Very reassuring.

What veg sources do you recommend. I had some onions today but they have carbs man😂

I just stick with the list in the e-book. It’s fine to have some carbs from veggies and a few fruits: you’re just trying not to have it be your primary fuel source.

For my guts, I respond will with cauliflower, cooked broccoli and mushrooms (can’t do raw anymore), asparagus, spinach, kale, celery, zucchini, tomatoes and avocados (technically fruits), peppers, onions, and egg plant. I eat carrots sparingly. I abstain from starches and grains like rice, potatoes (sweet and white), corn, oates, etc.

When I cut carbs out, Heavy Whipping Cream (is that even available there? pure milkfat) is my go-to for extra calories/fat. No idea if that’s Pwn-approved or Jon Anderson approved, or if it is a garbage fat. I just know that for me, getting enough calories without carbs was difficult before I learned to just drink HWC straight from the carton.

Is it possible that not everyone does well on low carb diets?

I was pretty low carb for a while and loved it, but now that I’ve replaced some data with carbs, I feel better

Grassfed should be fine, so long as your body handles saturated fats well. My lipid profile can get screwy if I go too heavy.

Absolutely. Nutrition is individually tailored, and ancestory plays a role in it. My wife has Asian heritage and handles carbs MUCH better than I do. Meanwhile, heavy fats don’t sit well with here.

Ahh yep
.this makes sense

Not sure I’ve ever had my lipids looked at. Should investigate. My blood could be 50% milkfat by now.

Also not Pwn, but I was into the high protein/high fat/minimal carb boat for about a year and a half. Caveat- I have a very minimal knowledge in nutrition.

I found that sticking with fatty cuts of beef and pork made me feel the best. A huge bowl of leafy greens with a fatty dressing once a day and mix avocado with everything. Basically it boiled down to keeping calories as high as possible while getting as many micronutrients as I could shovel in with vegetables.

I was eating about 2lbs of beef, 4-8 eggs, 6 slices of bacon, at least one avocado, multiple huge scoops of organic/natural peanut butter and a huge bowl of vegetables a day. That’s just the base of what my day would look like and just add extra fats and protein on top of that. Also, salt everything to hell and back.

I found that I needed to take in a volume of food that was teetering on the edge of ridiculous.

I used these exact words in my log the other day, haha. I’ve been off the low carb for a bit now, but there must’ve been some crazy combo of food I took in, because it felt like I was about to catch on fire!

@bigpappafrance Appreciate you stopping by.

@startingagain Thanks man! Definitely one of those moments where “everyone says this is a bad idea so it MUST be good”, haha. Getting back under that bar over and over is challenging.

@anna_5588 Dan John is big on “eat what your ancestors ate”, and I think it’s a pretty solid guideline to avoid some of the issues that come with dietary diversity. And, apparently, my ancestors did NOT eat blueberries, because as much as they’re all things good in the world they try to kill me when I eat them. Huckleberry too.

@jdm135 Always worth getting a check up. Keep aware of things.

@boilerman “When the engine is hot enough, it will burn anything”, and you’re definitely running yours into the red! Haha.
