More Movies You've Watched This Week

I went on a Tom Hardy binge lately. I watched Bronson the other night. A very different film. Kind of weird, but I liked it. Hardy does a very good job in this film. Just watch out it shows a lot of his junk.

I also watched Warrior. I thought the film was excellent. Hardy, Nolte, and the guy who played Brenden were all excellent. It’s a pretty emotional film and it’s more about MMA.

After seeing these two films i’m really excited to see Hardy in the new Batman flick.[/quote]

You should watch The Take if you can. TH is phenomenal in it. This is one of the scenes that convinced me he could play Bane:

Ok…won’t be watching Rubber.

Why?

Hahahaha nice

OK…I finally saw Rec 2 and it was not that good. I can see why they didn’t stick to that script for the American sequel…a “possession” virus? Uh, yeah.

I just got the American sequel and will likely watch that tonight.

Don’t write it off just yet. REC 3 is a prequel and I believe it was all conceived as one story and they’ve kept what would have been the first movie in reserve.

They are making REC 3?

Well I hope it’ll be as good as the first in the series.

Yes, and a fourth. FWIW, I liked REC 2. If vampires can get away with demonic possession, why can’t zombies?

I didn’t like Rec 2 as much as Rec 1.

The demonic possession, the church stuff seemed to overshadow the zombie feast! Rec 1 definitely managed to shake me a little. Rec 2 almost bored me to sleep, lol. And the end, goddamit, the end truly enraged me!

Agreed. Rec 2 equals boring. The American versions seem to remove themselves completely from the idea of this being a “religious disease” (snicker) and keeps it purely biological. The second slowed down way too much with that and tried to be some “Exorcist Zombie” hybrid that just seems silly unless you don’t have much of any religious background.

You don’t “catch” a demon like cold. I mean, if you did, I am sure it would be AIR BORNE.

“The Tourist”.

Angelina Jolie and Captain Jack Sparrow. Pretty good film. I’m a fan of a lot of 1960’s Audrey Hepburn movies too, and “The Tourist” has a very '60s film vibe to it. Much of Jolie’s acting and posturing was very Audrey Hepburn. Captain Jack Sparrow was pretty much sober throughout the whole film. 90% of the film is pretty good, the ending was a little disappointing. Also stars Paul Bettany and James Bond Sr.

I also watched “Push” for the 4th time. It’s been on Starz a lot lately and I seem to watch it about every 2-3 weeks or so.

The Bunker - Very suspenseful, decent cast…ultimately never quite delivered though, 6.5/10.

The Fighter - The fight sequnces were good, nothing else about the film was especially exciting though, 6.8/10.

Also watched the Loved Ones last week

Not bad at all, pretty ridiculous! Comical at times, though, certainly watchable 7.3/10.

R.E REC 2:

Isn’t vampirism a religious disease (aversion to crosses etc.)? Isn’t the idea of a zombie derived from religious practices (voodoo) ? They establish in the movie that the demon spreads itself through blood (they attempt to exorcize the blood sample and it reacts). Sure, REC 2 was slower than REC 1, but that was the point.

Actually, it wasn’t slower; it was differently paced…All the action in REC occurs during the last half of the movie. I’ve heard people say that they’ve turned it off before it got interesting because the first half was so quiet…

REC 2 plays out alongside REC 1 and fills in blanks in REC 1. The third and fourth will add further layers to the story. Each successive movie will provide answers to questions from the previous movies that you didn’t even know were there.

For that reason, I still don’t think we have all the facts, so I won’t dismiss the movie just yet. I feel like I can buy into the idea of a zombie-like demonic plague easily because I’ve seen it before (Lamberto Bava’s Demons scared the crap out of me as a kid, even though it hasn’t aged well. And let’s not forget the Evil Dead movies), and my definition of a “zombie” is broader than Romero’s reanimated, flesh eating horde, so I wasn’t as opposed to the direction taken in REC 2.

Film makers are always playing with the “conventions” of the zombie genre. The demon as an infection is no more a deviation than sprinting zombies, really.

REC is the Spanish movie that was remade as Quarantine. I don’t think REC 3 has been released yet, AFAIK they plan to release it sometime next year.

Is it shot like Quarantine? Meaning that hand held wobble etc

That actually made me throw up, only movie to ever do that, course I was drinking a little. Watched it at the house.

Is in on Netflix?

They are pretty much the same movie except one is set in Spain, and the other in the U.S.

Yeah, I think it is on Netflix.

X-Men First Class. Not too bad, Kevin Bacon was pretty good in this movie as Sebastian Shaw.

Also watched Hereafter on Sunday. Meh, could take it or leave it but is was more for the misses anyway.

One of the best remakes in the they did do a better job with the American version as far as the acting. The original Rec did have some hammy characters as tenants.

I have only watched half of the Quarantine sequel but they are adding layers as well. This was apparently a terrorist job by some very powerful people behind the scenes in government. It is not very scary…at least not to me so far.

I do like some of the characters, but the original Quarantine really wowed me with well the actors played their roles in very extended scenes where the camera never left them. It takes talent to stay in character and get all lines right between 10 different people in a scene that lasts 8 minutes long with no breaks.

Great have to try to watch it, but if it is that whole hand held camera like the American version going to have to turn it off.

A short movie I watched a few years ago and I absolutely loved. While I wouldn’t say it’s a “terror” movie, it has that kind of feeling. It’s from 1972. Here’s the link. Press CC for English subtitles and do NOT read the comments or you’ll get the ending spoiled. And the ending is brutal.
