More Movies You've Watched This Week

Saw “Kick Ass” (finally) this week.

I was pleasantly surprised! I know there’s a comic the movie is based on, but I’ve never read it, so nothing to base the story off of, but I thought the story stood on its own.

I honestly didn’t know what to expect going in and kind of did a couple double takes with the level of gore. Thought it was done well. All the knifework scenes were great.

Great soundtrack to the violence-- very Clockwork Orange-y.

Just finished 13 Assassins. No wonder everybody has been rating this film so highly. It’s like modern day Seven Samurai. 13 samurai face an army of 200 to put an end to a cruel dictator’s life. The first half of the movie sets up the why and how the evil dictator has to die. The second half is straight up heavy and hot samurai on samurai action. A full hour of sword swinging fun. There may not be a whole lot of subtitles to read, but they make good use what lines they have.

Kick Ass is great indeed. I’ve read the comic and, in my opinion, the adapted story for the movie is much, much better.

Was he a god? The deleted scenes lead me to believe he may have been. No spoiler.

He didn’t seem very godly in the movie.

Hey, remember the Monkey god!

I watched this labor day weekend, and yes it was fucking awesome.

Bujo have you seen the Warriors Way?

Or the man from nowhere?

Highly recommend them

OK…Quarantine 2 is nowhere near as good as the first. It is very generic…but it is a zombie movie shot with really expensive movie cameras so zombie geeks will watch it no matter what.

However, it is not scary and the airplane hanger just isn’t creepy and the acting is iffy.

You get very average “zombie action” for the sake of basically saying, “The virus got out the apartment complex because some group of eco-terrorists is planning to destroy the human race.”

While that part may be interesting…you don’t need the other 1 and 30minutes to say it.

The tv show Supernatural is scarier than this.

Kick ass fell flat for me. So much hype surrounding it but I just couldn’t get into it. Nicholas Cages’ role, especially at the end seemed over the top.

Then again I guess it stayed pretty true to the graphic novel so I’m the oddball when it comes to this film.

I really wish I knew how to post this video instead of the link. Supernatural is the Sh*T!!!

^love the show.

Quarantine 2, however, should be taking notes. There was no “style” to this movie…and the lack of the “real life camera” scenario just made it flat because they still decided on a subdued soundtrack like the first. That only worked in the first because it was supposed to be “live”.

He’s been over the top for some time now. I feel like he films all his movies simultaneously, running from one set to another, stopping only to change hairpieces.

He was better in Kick-Ass than he’s been for a while; he based his performance on Adam West playing Batman. I don’t know If he pulled it off, but at least he put some effort into the character this time.

But, as you say, it was business as usual by the end: the warehouse scene was signature Cage.

They are making REC 3?

Well I hope it’ll be as good as the first in the series. [/quote]
I regret to admit that I haven’t yet caught any of the REC series, but this video just popped up in my Facebook feed (yes, I’m enough of a movie dork to have “liked” Fangoria Magazine on FB.)

Maybe the video means something to those who’ve seen the previous movies.

Also, I caught Rampage the other day. Not horrendous, even though it’s a Uwe Boll movie. I had it on in the background while working, which was just fine as there’s seriously not much more to the plot than “cranky young guy walks around town shooting a bunch of people.”

Yeah…I now give Rec 2 more credit…because it was better than Quarantine 2 even though it dragged.

We still got better zombie fights.

I will now see Rec 3 with less bias.

Actually this was the best Nicky Cage film I’ve seen in a long time. His acting was as shitty as ever, but this time they set him on fire. All Nicky Cage films should have a scene where he’s set on fire. It gives me a warm fuzzy feeling inside. Sort of like when I watch Eagle Eye. I always turn the movie off right after Shia LaBuff gets shot. It’s best to end the film on a high note.

^ Lol

I meant to see Warrior’s Way when it came thru the theaters, but I never got to go. Thanks for reminding me about that one. I’ll add “Man From Nowhere” to the que.

Have you seen “Rain Fall”? Kippei Shiina and Gary Oldman. Half the movie is in Japanese, the other half (the scenes with Oldman) are in English. Modern day assassin doing assassinny things, then the CIA, politicians, and mob get involved.

Is it on Netflix stream?
And the Warriors way is only on mail in. Man from No where is on stream.
Lead Actor us the ultimate fucking bad ass, you dont think so at first but stick with it.

Yeah, Rain Fall is available for streaming.

I thought Nic Cage was pretty kick ass in Kick-Ass.

I also thought his “over the top” performance during fire scene was done intentionally for comedic effect, because even though he’s not that good of an actor, there’s NO WAY he could have thought the way he was screaming would be taken seriously.

The movie WAS a dark comedy… but I think a lot of people are just really used to hating Nic Cage by now.
