NEDS: Non-educated delinquents.

This was actually a very surprisingly enjoyable film. Thoughtful and humorous; it follows a studious and intelligent young boy as he grows from being top of his class, to turning to the wrong side of the tracks for self-preservation. Having lived in an area rife with this kind of behaviour I wasn’t really sure how I would take to the film as I find there’s nothing humorous or endearing about neds at all.

However the film is quick to show a sense of humour and while I don’t know what things were like in Glasgow in the late 70’s early 80’s (when the film is set) it certainly has a gritty realism by today’s standards. The cast is excellent, some great young Scottish talent, and of course a few well known names thrown in as well.

The film has alot going for it and an ending that made me smile broadly; as it reflects on a certain fearlessness in the main character that you can only admire, even if you don’t appreciate or agree with how he got there.

Well worth a watch, if of course you can work out what they’re saying as it’s a true to life thick Glasgow accent.

Touching the void

Made me feel both happy & sad I’ll never be a mountaineer.

Madness!

Last night I watched Requiem for a Dream. What an awful movie to watch alone in my basement before bed.

Got two for ya.

Sucker Punch- You’re going to get exactly what you expect and nothing more. That said, I found this very entertaining but a bit heavy on the female abuse. There’s absolutely no reason this should have gotten a PG-13 rating, and they could have done a lot more with the movie if they had just embraced an R. All in the name of profit. If you want to see a group of hot chicks fighting clockwork German soldiers in trenches and Terra Cotta demon possessed samurai with miniguns this is your film.

Death Wish- Charles Bronson’s wife gets killed and daughter raped by a group of muggers so he becomes a vigilante. I have to confess that I wasn’t paying 100% attention since I was playing Crysis 2 for most of the time but I didn’t find many redeeming qualities with it. I understand that it was released at a time of increasing crime rates and gang violence so maybe I missed some of the context but it wasn’t very good.

What possessed you to do that?

a friend kept telling me to watch it … got bored

i totally regret it… ive been thinking about it non stop ever since

they only way to stop that is to refuse to watch any scary movies…EVER!!! as i do, granted i get made fun of relentlessly but i dont care. why would you want to scare yourself!!!

currently i’m watching Deep Rising … now I’m scared a monster will come up through the toilet

The Tourist (with Angelina Jolie and Johnny Depp)

I liked this movie, the plot was nothing overly stellar, but the scenery alone was probably worth it. Takes place in Paris and Venice, a spy type of thriller that keeps you on the edge of your seat for most of the movie. Paul Bettany, Timothy Dalton, and Raul Bova make appearances rounding out a talented cast, I would recommend this on Netflix for sure.

Requiem for a Dream isn’t really scary though. Well it’s not intended to be scary, rather a typical Aronofsky mindfuck. I actually think it’s one of his better films and not just because Jennifer goes ass to ass for some heroin.

Insidious - great movie for 3/4’s and then (without giving anything away) shit just gets stupid. The movie would have been great if they kept things realistic. The use of lighting and music to create suspense was spot on.

Hanna - Excellent, Chemical Brothers soundtrack and minimalist shooting made for a very enjoyable film.

Carlito’s Way - Rewatched it for the first time in a long time, truly a classic and one of Pacino’s finest. The pool hall scene at the beginning is just pure enjoyment.

Catfish - Awesome, must see, not what you expect. Centers around a relationship based on facebook and what happens when the 2 characters meet in person.

Hereafter - meh its ok

Grownups - retarded forced comedy, I like Adam Sandler and most of his movies, but this was full of retarded forced 1 liners with all these comedic stars looking for a payday.

Its kind of a funny story. Probably the simplist best movie seen so far this year.
Jack Ass 3d: Total ghey, WTF to much dick and ass

Reminds me of the time my dad let me watch Jaws with him when I was about 6. This was the night before we went to the beach for the day and I wouldn’t get in the water.

BUMP

I watched Wall-E last night. I’d seen it before and enjoyed it but this time I watched in complete awe. This is, hands down, one of the most fantastically made movies of all time. I dunno why I didn’t see it the first time but everything about this movie. This review says more about it than I ever could:

Highly recommended. A hilarious moving and stunning movie. IMO, up there with Toy Story 3 in animated movie brilliance.

^ IMO great love story, reminds me of myself broken down ugly robot who marry’s up.

Almost worth watching for the end credits alone, stunning artwork masterfully blended with a beautiful movie. Dunno why it took so long but I just developed the biggest crush on this movie

^ One of my favorites no doubt, hell the social commentary about the ever bulking of the American populace alone is worth it.

Agreed, pretty bleak messages in there but they don’t take away in anyway from the playfulness of the movie. A unique talent really

Just popped in Se7en, about to watch it for the first time.

Rented Catfish as Matty suggested above, was definitely something different.
