I do go lower, but, like I said, it takes buttwink and vaseline.
I should clarify - what I’m calling buttwink doesn’t involve rounding the back. My back stays straight, but my knees come forward a bit and that allows me to sink a few inches deeper, but it does make my butt bob down and up.
And I think I’m overdoing my explanations again. I blame it on the vaccinations I received as a child.
If vasoline is what I need to go deeper then so be it, I’ll lather up. BTW - you’re not overdoing the explanations. Very helpful but I don’t think I’m ready to go there unless the weight is light and I’m just going for the stretch.
I’m really bothered about the situation for a bunch of reasons.
1.) I’m out-bench’in my squat - pathetic.
2.) I have a meet coming up.
3.) I’ve been looking at a bunch of USAPL vids and I think I’m damn close. Within an inch or two. So I need to shoot a vid and get the real story.
4.) I’ve been sitting at a desk for 30 years and NOW I’m trying to loosen up the mechanism. What a waste.
Oh well. I’m glad I started lifting when I turned the ripe young age of 46 and got serious at 48. Gotta start somewhere.
GPP - Lawn mowing tonight - Like pushing through molasses after the hurricane last week.
Enough whin’in. I think my hormones are acting up again.

OP - I’m following you on the same timeframe. I started lifting dumbells at age 46 the first serious lifting I’ve done in my entire life, and you are right you gotta start somewhere. I’ll be 49 in a few weeks and I want to be lifting and competing for a long time coming. I have also been sitting on my ass for a long time - no excuses: get that light weight to depth and work from there. video everything and post it for feedback. be shameless in what you do and post and get out there and compete. a little over a year ago I decided to work the big three (four) lifts and be a powerlifter. it doesn’t matter where your lfits are as long as you are out there doing it. unlike the 99.99% of the rest of the population talking about it or sitting on their duff. It ain’t pathetic unless you don’t ever try.
OP- sorry for your hurricane troubles. hopefully you will get things squared away… Good luck in your meet…Sorry I cant help you with the squat thing…but taking advice from a goat that has difficulties squatting a paperclip is not prudent…you will do awesome because you are a crazy bastard and crazy bastards always do well ( meant as a compliment)
OG - Thanks - Hurricane trouble are behind me for now. Crazy bastard is a high form of compliment. Back atcha brutha.
9-11 Anniversary today for us all. Like every year, I watch the documentaries.
My son was starting his Junior year in High School when Islamic terrorists destroyed the twin towers. The following week he signed up for ROTC at his High School.
Today he is in Afghanistan serving his third tour on a six year commitment to the Army.
Never forget, and never weaken your opinion about what happened to our country 9 years ago today.
“Lest we forget” (taken from Kipling) is usually used to refer to the MIA/POWs who didn’t come back from Viet Nam but it definitely appplies in this case. My oldest just rotated back from his last, 3rd, tour of Iraq. He’s out of harm’s way for a while. May head to Afghanistan if it keeps up. I pray for all of them daily.
I’m going to try and video my next squat session Snapper. Tis a good idea.
Speaking of mens/womens strength…Not sure if you’ve heard of Sandra Sebastian. She took 1st in the USAPL Womens Nationals this year out lifting Priscilla Ribic. Back Squat of 429lbs, bench of 247.5lbs and a deadlift of 462lbs.
She’s a workout partner when I lift at the local University and its a humbling experience. She’s also a USAPL State Judge.

I don’t know her. But I didn’t know that anyone could outlift Priscilla! How lucky that you get to train with her. I really oughta just give up this sport and take up knitting.
in any case that is somethin’ +90 for 10 and then 8!
I’m also liking the singles up in the +90% of max range.[/quote]
Cool! I didn’t realize they were 90%.
I just felt like throw’in it on and getting more comfortable with em.
I don’t think singles are a 5/3/1 option, but they should be.
I like dip’pin. They are usually hell on my shoulders, but as long as I’m warmed up I like to crank em out. I could have done more than 30 but I was getting bored. Someday I’ll see if I can hit 50 or more.
Wish I could crank out pull ups like that.

Good video mrodock.
I push my knees out as hard as I can going down and up. The problem is I get the weight on the inside of my feet sometimes and it’s due to inflexibility. Knees pushing out with ankles turning in can only go so far.
I know it sounds weird, but there is a limit on how far the hips can open before weight transfers inside.
I love it when women say, here’s a simple way… Must be nice to have that kind of natural flexibility.
But she is right about what to do.
