More I learn Less I know

Thanks Joe - Even though it’s only a 6lb PR, it gives me hope for a 400 1RM for this year.
I really want to pull 405 by Christmas. My current 1RM calc is around 385.

305x8 is pretty damn impressive. You’ll get 405 by Christmas, and 6lbs is 6lbs you couldnt do before. I love hitting a PR when I didnt even want to walk to walk into the gym.

Thanks UN. For me PR’s are like a good golf shot. They are rare but keep you coming back.

Ab Work

Left my log book at home so I had to guess on my 5/3/1 sets. Fortunately I got the numbers right except for the middle set should have been 255 x 5 instead of 265 x 5. Close enough.
Good workout on bench. I had a good spotter - young big dude that liked to see a small guy his dads age lifting.

Nice benching, and congrats on the deadlift pr.

Thanks Scott. I’m beginning to feel like things are unlocking. Seems like the body likes to develop a base at certain levels before it allows more gains. Probably a good way to protect tendons/joints anyway.

Stout workout, OP. Great benching…and those dips are just awesome.

Thanks for checking in LS.

Well, now I have zero excuse. A USAPL meet is happening in my home town in early November.

There is no way I’m missing that one. It will be my first.

Doing it rawdog in the 198 Masters II class with the goal of not bombing on anything.

Def go for it! Not bombing was also my goal for my first meet

Training is looking really solid and looks like you have a good amount of time to prep for the meet. Might be worth posting some videos as you get closer to the meet.

Trying to set up some goals for the meet.

I would like to get comfortable opening at 1K and shooting for 1.1K for my third.
I’m going to start working out with the powerlifting team at UT again starting Sept. They can take me through commands and do form checks.

They are all gear whores, but I’ll probably submit at some point anyway.

Shit mrodock. I didn’t realize you were stalking me. I’d better step it up.

Gonna compete are you? Is it your first ever, like in your whole life? I’m gonna have to get me some kinda of equipment, maybe a belt, so I can relate to all you geared up folks.

It just ain’t fair that you should be the only one have’in fun.

Don’t you have a belt to hold up yer jammies? I can see one in your avatar.

Just got back from a road trip by air across the country.

Squats:

bar x 15
135 x 10
185 x 5
225 x 5

230 x 5
270 x 5
300 x 5

325 x 2
345 x 1 (weight PR - never tried it before. Came up strong but I don’t think I hit max depth)
265 x 5

Good Mornings:
135 x 10
165 x 10
185 x 10

Standing and seated calf work

Millies:
bar x 20
95 x 10
135 x 5
155 x 5
175 x 4

wiped out…

Changed my thread title because I’m such a pussy about not stretching for the extra rep and trusting the safety bars. Once I get past that, I’ll change it to something else.

Fear of failure is not OK in my book.

Really nice work, OP.
Congrats on the PR!

And I agree, fear of failure is not okay. Disdain for it works pretty well, though.
My offensive coordinator, in HS, used to say, “The team that wins is not the one who wants to win. Hell, everybody wants to win. The teams that wins is the one that will not tolerate losing.”

Good for you! USAPL is very strong in Texas.

Post some vids here. Everyone can be very helpful with critiques.

Good luck at the meet. Take vids for sure. And be sure to tap into your old-man powers.

Those are damn good lookin squats. And good deal on being able to work out with the UT team. I would love to access to something like that.

Thanks KP - I’ll be working out with the local University PL team which is primarily USAPL sponsored, but I’ll post a few vids here to give everyone a chuckle.

Welcome to the over 35 forum.

Definitely vids at the meet. My “old man powers” will hopefully be in full swing by Nov.

Thanks UN. Squats are my weakest area so its nice to see them coming along finally.

Its a little awkward being the old guy in the room with all the geared up and young PL’ers, but they are super helpful. I do feel lucky to have that resource close by.
