Pete, How old is your son? My 3 year old was introduced to Star Wars this Summer and I thought I was going to have to burn the dvds to keep from going insane. I know them all by heart, now.
Sorry to hear about the employment situation. I went through that in Feb. of '03…6 months after getting my wife a new vehicle and 5 months after buying a new house. It sucked! Took 4 months, but another job came around. Initally it was a significant pay cut, but now I am making about 50% more, and working less, than at the old job. It will sort itself out. Attitude is everything.
Use the stress for PRs!
First day at new facility. Metal Militia Benches, Monolift, Belt Squat machine, DL platform, variety of bars, etc…
Raw warm ups: worked up to 370 x 3.
Tried on single ply Super Katana, size 50. Tried some 4 board presses, shirt not comfortable at all for me.
Switched to size 54 double ply Fury. 4 board 500 x 2, 550 x 2, 3 board 550 x 2, 2 board 550 x 2
Need to learn the groove, a bit different than using my single ply over sized size 58 shirt. Now I know why I was told I was benching raw with that sized shirt.
Next week will work on touching.
finished with close grip raw 320 x 8, 340 x 6
Doesn’t loook like much, but I am exhausted. Lots of guys benching there, so it was a good 2 hour run.
I’m just catching up, sorry to hear about work. If I can be of any help don’t hesitate to ask. On a brighter side, your lifting is awesome. I think I need to take your advice about visiting one of the PL gyms in Chicago, looks like you came away stoked.
Strick, my son turned 3 in August. Awesome, and challening age. I have a huge bruise on my left bicep from where he bit me yesterday, lol. It matches the bruises on the back of my arms from the bench shirts I put on today:)
Thanks Chi-town and Mathineer. Things are going to be ok. I have a lot of contacts if I choose to stay in my previous field, but may look at doing something entirely different. I have someone loaning me a stack of personal trainer cert books, might explore a career that is lifting related…
Regarding post above, environment was awesome, I was NOT all there (shit sinking in), so looking forward to the coming weeks. And it is official, it will be an APF sanctioned meet.
Not much I can say. The good in all this, you get to spend some more time with your son. Also glad to see you’re keeping up your workouts. In times of change a constant is always good to have. Hope things improve soon.
Harry, you hit the nail on the head on both accounts. I will really enjoy this time with my little biter, and between him and my training I don’t have any time for any self-pity crap.
felt great this a.m, took a nap then felt like crap, go figure. Plus I need to remember to take ibu before squatting.
145 x 10, 235 x 5, 325 x 5, 415 x 5, 465 x 3, 505 x 2 added predator briefs 555 x 3, 625 x 2, 645 x 2
Depth was 1/2 inch to an inch off on all ‘briefed’ reps. I am not a break at hips, sit down squatter, the only time I think I ever get depth is a) off a box breaking at hips or b) in the real world breaking at the knees and letting the weight drive me down. I have proven that to myself about 5 times in the last month alone, now I need to live by it.
hanging leg raise 5 x 15
rackable cambered bar GMs 5 x 5 200lbs plus bar weight
Not sure how squatting heavy one day, and DLing heavy another is going to treat me. Might adjust… Still liking the change in environment.
If I may a word of advice from a PT to you. It is an awesome job if you keep it part time and raise the 3 year old instead of daycare. If you go full time you are really at your clients mercies on when to train. Not saying it could not be done just harder.
I work 20-25 hrs a week (mostly from 3pm till 8pm) and saturday mornings. Pays very well for part time. But I am established now in the 2 gyms I work at and life is alot easier not paying for daycare.
You have the will, drive and determination to be successful in which ever field you choose Petey.
Knowing you… and yet strangely, not knowing you, I think you would be a great personal trainer. Your mindset and knowledge is awesome. You would be a great gym teacher/ football coach I think.
You may have to work on your “customer service” skills a bit, smooth out the rough edges… but I think you would be great.
New gym sounds good, We are thinking daycare/nanny vs me staying at home right now too
when we get there, NYC its super expensive ,Im sure minneapolis is too on that front.
Fischer, what you decribed is my plan ‘b’ right now. I am going to pursue certs, etc. I have a friend getting the books for me to study, can’t remember which two different orgs she had books for but should know by end of week. Plan ‘a’ is to stay in a ‘career’ path within my previous industry, however, I am now going to push for a job with a slightly higher pay scale, to the point where with this next baby then my wifey can stay at home. Both of us are pretty intent that we don’t want the kids going to daycare full time anymore.
On a side note, I was going to bring my little boy to dc today. However, when the first thing he said to me this a.m. was “I want to snuggle with you in your bed” I called and notified that he wasn’t coming, grabbed the Bambi DVD, and we crawled under the covers, I snoozed next to him while he had his arm around my big old head. It was AWESOME!!!
effen tired after squatting until 9 last night anyway. Gonna do some cardio shortly, and some assistance work later.
Bunny, I am shocked that you might think I have a few rough edges. Actually, all my edges are so rough I think I need a giant power sander taken to me…
Kevin NYC, in this area daycare is very interesting. We live in one of the last true ‘blue collar’ neighborhoods, but it is quickly becoming ‘gentrified’ if you will. That was strategic purchasing in one part, being broke when we bought the other part. That being said we initially did daycare closer to our work in an upper tier burb. A couple months back we decided we weren’t happy with that provider so started looking in our hood. Daycare prices are about half in our hood as oppposed to near work. We were shocked. And I was pissed. All I could think about is all the gear I could have bought with the money I had spent on uppity neighborhood daycare, lol.

Now THAT is a good morning! Good for the heart, mind and soul!
