Monkeying Around

Frustrated: my ‘dl’ exercises over the last couple months have seen some PRs, i.e. GMs, rack pulls, etc. These are the things that have improved my strength over the last year, but I think now I need to ditch them as ME movements anyway and pick my alternatives. The defecits pulls seem good, I think I need to add in reverse bands, and pulling against bands, as well as putting back in speed pulls on that day.

My set up is goofy right now, and I have somewhat changed from being quad dominant to more hamstring dominant. I need to get my quads firing again. My pchain feels effen bullet proof right now, my grip strength is the best it has ever been, but all of this at the expense of my quads are being lazy.

I don’t think they are week, I am just not getting them involved enough. And also once I get to the bar I start over thinking it. Need to get my form back to second nature, so all I have to do is… grip and rip!!!

Side note my best friend and his wife came over for dinner tonight. They are expecting too. Been friends with this guy since the HC matinee era. They are 2 weeks further along than us, so my wife has her prego buddy now, and I have someone to commiserate with regarding female hormonal rages. Good times.

Second side note: man does my little boy like the ladys. Took him to the gym with me and he said ‘I want to wear my new boots to show her.’ I said ‘show who’. ‘The girl at the gym.’ So he put on his new Toy Story snow boots and we went off to the gym. Sure enough, as we checked in at the front desk, with the cute young blonde girl working, he tilts back his leg and raises his foot up in the air and says ‘Hey, I got new boots’.

He also then proceeded to flirt with a sometime training partners girlfriend {wouldn’t give him the time of day} and every female that was attractive at the grocery store afterwards. Kids got good taste too. He even tried to work one really attractive 50ish woman, so he isn’t totally age biased, but definitely prefers them between 16 and 40.

On the way home he stated to me “Dad, I am really cute.” He knows he has a card to play every time. Can you blame him.

455. Hundo plates make the bar feel way heavier somehow. I was following this dude who weighed in at 440, with a triple ply open back shirt trying to bench 700. He missed.

looks like you are wearing an old school Weider belt on your bench. i always hated the 100lb plates because it never looks like much weight on the bar.

Funny thing is I have pics of me at 3, and of my older boy at 3, and now this one at 3. All cut from the same cloth. My cloth has just been beaten, bashed, and sullied a lot more than it oughta.

That belt I grabbed from my buddy spotting me. He was at one point a national champ in the APF, now not so much. It is a cheap piece of crap belt, actually just bought one just like it, but it serves its purpose of holding the shirt in place. Once getting the shirt on dealing with my standard power belt, think I got my current one from Elite, is just too much a pain in the ass.

30 minutes elliptical this a.m., last 15 while watching Clifford the Big Red Dog.

Bench night.

Raw warm up bar times a million, 135 x 15 185 x 15 225 x 10, 275 x 5, 315 x 5 375 x 1 all with a closish grip, all easy.

Loose shirt: 405 x 2, 425 x 2, 445 x 2 (pr) 455 x 2 (pr)

4 board 455 x 5, 485 x 5 (pr I think)

TBar row 2 plates x 15, 4 plates time 12, 5 plates x 10, 6 plates x 10, 7 plates x 8, x 8

Laterals 5 x 8-12, 45s and 50s

cable curl supersetted with rope downs 5 x 12-20 each

dbell shrugs 2 x 20 w/125s

face pulls supersetted with cable abs 4 x 10-20 each.

Great session, need my squat/dl ME days to start looking like this. I think I might almost have a commitment from my bench night guys to start showing up on squat/dl day, lol.

No a.m. cardio today. After a session like last nights I always have a very hard time winding down. CNS fired up or something, sat reading a trashy novel til near midnight. Will get a walk in maybe tonight just for something. Get to go hear a heartbeat this afternoon.

Upperbody felt like it received a thrashing. But in a very good way. Like the TBars, hadn’t done them in a long time. No problem with the left delt on these, esp using the narrow Vgrip handle. Will be keeping these and DB rows in for awhile.

I need to become a PR whore. I want to feel dirty too. Nice lifting Big Pete.

Thanks Big Steve. Funny, growing up there were three Petes, Little Pete, who I still hang with, and he is still little, I was always Big Pete, and then finally the third one, poor guy was dubbed RePete.
