damn… we are all getting so damn healthy. we need to start a “rate my physique” in the “over 35” thread.

Rack pull 3 pin: 225 x 10, 315 x 5, 405 x 5, 495 x 3, 585 x 1, 675 x 1, 715 x 1 +10 lbs over last time
1 legged leg press 4 x 10-15
stand calve 4 x 10-15
back ext 3 x10-15
standing abs with green band and mini 3 x 20
Meat, I am still holding out with the ‘over 35 calendar’ idea, hopefully I will be Mr. December cuz I ain’t leaning out at your rate.
Notes on today. Okay, I got to sleep in today. In fact my wife got up and took the little boy with her to the gym while I snoozed on. Finally got up around 10, let dogs out and showered up, then had 4 eggs, whole grain toast, 6 slices of turkey bacon, some fruit and like 30 oz of low fat milk. Went grocery shopping for the fam for the week then came home, deposited groceries, and headed to gym. When I got there I knew it was going to be a grind. The food above was the only food I had since 8 p.m. last night. Also, right after my 455 for 5 GM my iPod died on me (I am horrible at charging this thing). Running through the rack pulls, I actually attempted 725. My energy was waning, and also the gym was playing Britney Spears, and I just didn’t have it. I did not want to stop w/o a PR on these so I redid the plates, sat, waited, and AC/DC came on, with out another thought or even pausing to hear what song it was (they are all the same intro) I moved from the bench I was sitting on, grabbed the bar, ripped it up, and it was over. Before the lyrics to ‘Highway to Hell’ even started…

This weekend I ate a lot of crap and really felt poorly. I can no longer eat McDonalds and Dunkin Dounuts and feel good.

you don’t eat mcd’s or dunkn Dnuts to feel good. it’s one of those things where you eat it and cry at the same time.
very stressful day, due to both work and personal factors. made it into the gym to do this
Reverse band bench, average (green) bands: 135 x 30, 225 x 20, 275 x 10, 315 x 5, 365 x 5, 405 x 5, 455 x 5
Add 4 board: 455 x 3, 495 x 3, 525 x 3, x 3
Dips bwt x 20, 45 x 15, 90 x 15, x 14
Tried to do military presses but was gassed from the events of the day, did 185 x 10 and then unracked 225, just didn’t have the desire, if you know what I mean. Called it a day. Plus this trying to overhead press after heavy benching just doesn’t work for me. After I am ‘done with’ inclines on DE day I will start working military’s in. Also back and hammies were super tight today from yesterdays work, it was really hard to get in my arched bench position. I did some stretching but still each set was hard to set up correctly. I know my bench numbers suffered by 10-20 pounds per set because of this. Oh well.
I called one of my Monday night guys, Mike, earlier today saying it was going to be a late start. When I pulled up John, another Monday night guy, was just pulling in as well. I dropped the boards off in the gym and headed to the locker room to change. I also at this point told John we were doing reverse band presses. I knew this would get under Mike’s skin a little bit becuase a) he didn’t do them when he hit his competition benches and b) he didn’t do them when he hit his competition benches. Mike is a previous record holder nationally and can’t train that hard anymore due to many injuries, but loves to work more as a coach with us on MOnday nights. Like many guys who have walked the walk, though, he has his opinions and holds to them. So be it.
Anyway, I get going and work up to 455 full range. Mike and John are nonowhere around. I had a couple of the other guys spotting me, but when it came time for the boards, well that is Mike’s job on Monday nights. So I get pissed. I marched upstairs. Previously, before the last two corporate take overs of this facility, the basement was a true powerlifing gym with a platform, specialty bars, etc. Now it is about half that. Upstairs is all the machines, cardio and pin selector stuff. I find Mike and John in the corner yapping away to some other regulars. I just yelled at them ‘Is this what you two have come to?’ and turned around… both of them following sheepishly… and the other regulars laughing. No idea why I didn’t find this humorous until now.
Bent rows: Worked up to 335 for 8. Suddenly my shoulder pain, which previously had always hovered around the pec/delt and delt/bicep ties ins, seems to have moved to the rear.
parrellel grip pulldowns 3 x 10-15
wide pulldowns 3 x 10
low pulley row 3 x 12-15
hammer curls 3 x 10
wrist curls 3 x 20
seated calve 4 x 15-20
Decline sit up 4 x some
Nice work on the rack pulls.
Nice work pretty much all around-
even little guys like me cant eat shit - I work in television and catering is ever present
too much sugar or too many junk carbs and I am a zonbie.
Donuts are the worst
its worse when couple with not enough water and bad coffee
and Meat you bastard I spit stuff out my nose when I read the eat and cry mcdonalds.
kmc
last night 1.5 mile walk, this a.m. 30 minutes elliptical
DE lower.
Work intruded in on my training so my accessory work was brief. Here is all that got done:
DE squat, 13 inch box, 325 lbs + 4 pairs chains 12 sets of 2
Speed pulls, 335 + 4 pairs of chains 5 x 1
need to perfect chain set up, had them too close to the plates, and the chains ended up being under the plates after each rep. will research set up
hack squats 360 x 10, 450 x 10, 540 x 8
GHR style back extensions 3 x 10 w/45 lbs.
I used to think I would catch you some day. But with my dieting you’re just smoking me. Great lifting Pete.
Ahh shucks Eco, I have a feeling you are smoking me in the diet realm.
I should be in the 250s by next week. Funny that I already think I’m looking to skinny. All in my head I’m sure.
I am hanging in the mid 260s, I am comfortable, pushing the accessory work a little harder has denitely changed my composition quite a bit. Haven’t really been dieting either, but just not eating crap. I figure 10/1 I will start to really dial it in. I like to diet through the holidays, that way everyone thinks I am a complete asshole.
Pete, with the weights you been hitting you could easily make the elite level in raw powerlifting. You should look for a meet to train for.
Eco, you are too kind… depends on what definition of elite you are talking about. And I am too ‘gear curious’ right now, that I am more interested in getting to know some equipment right now. And my shoulder for benching to so fucking unpredictable for raw work. I can be good for somewhere in the low/mid 400s one day, a week later I type something wrong on my computer and it tweeks my rotator and 370 is a challenge.
But regarding meets, I am looking, I have a couple of options coming up, at least over the next six months. All single ply or raw. AFter that I plan to either poop or get off the potty (as I would say to my toilet traning 3 year old) and either pursue something different, strength wise, like either strongman, BB, or multi-ply powerlifting.
Also, I gotta address this choke factore I am having with meets. First off, I have fugged up by either not deloading enough or deloading too much the couple of weeks before. I have yet to find that magic for my body where I am lifting more on the platform than in the gym. Next go around I am probably going to request that special phone call from Meat on that special day…
