Well, in one respect doing this meet was a mistake
I’ve had 6 hours sleep and 2 meals in the last 72 hours while studying technical docs in preparation for a meeting I had this morning, I have economic pressures and my wife is mad at me (because I’m blond, I figure).
All my lifts felt far too heavy today. I only took two attempts in the meet because the second was such a grinder that I knew a third was going to be an assured failure.
On the other hand - I put up an appreciable percentage of my estimated max under really crappy conditions AND successfully completed my 5/3/1 training for the day.
Plus, I’m locked in for the contract next week, so there’ll be some non-gummint income and that contract could possibly lead to full time work.
Plus I can now proudly wear the appellation “Bench-Only Fag.”

On balance, a good day.[/quote]
well done! and great news on the contract work. is 250 your PR?
can’t help out on the wife issue and you wouldn’t want to follow any suggestion I’d give anyway with my track record.

Best meet bench to date is 260, best gym bench from a paused start is 275.
I’ll bet wives wished husbands came with operating and maintenance manuals as well. Maybe an “off” switch, too.

I got,
“It’s an **************insert white noise here****************consulting gig”
Good luck with that anyway, whatever it is.
I notice you seem to do a lot of meets, virtual and otherwise, do they help you or are they more of a hindrance, making you max out at the wrong time etc?

I seem mostly to claim I’m going to do a meet and then not do it. So I’m not as busy on the meet front as I may seem.
edit:
Annnnnnddd I didn’t answer the question, now, did I?
I think meets help ya get motivated, give you a reason to train for other than lookin’ good nekkid. Not a real good idea to do a bunch close together though I think, because they actually interrupt your training in a way. best way is may be 3 or 4 times a year max so you can get strong, prove it and then go about getting stronger. if you’re always proving it, you actually get weaker. I mean, look at elk during mating season…
