Who cares if a bigger guy made fun of you. I am the only person in my gym that does face pulls, I also use the diesel crew ultimate shoulder warmup. Both of which automatically make be the guy who does weird stuff. Tell him to feck off. If these work for your, keep doing them
face pulls and seated dumbell cleans are excellent movements that i do a lot. There’s no reason to replace them. They were designed for a specific perpose.
big ain’t strong… strong is strong. I’ve seen a lot of big guys that are weak as piss.
He’s talking out of his ass. most gym advice is worth zero. It’s worth as much as gym weight numbers.
I had no clue what a seated power clean was. After seeing the video, I can see how it would be useful…but I don’t think I would call the movement anything with the word power clean in it. I think power cleans were the most taxing exercise I’ve ever done…aside from the extra reps in legs…I look at SPC as a front raise with a shrug, an assistance exercise, not the lift you can build a back workout around.
What people say means nothing…It’s all about the results you get…If the program is working for you, keep doing it.
Listen to everyone; decide for yourself!!!
The wheel was ridiculed to start with.
Don’t worry about what some guy says just because he’s bigger than you. I used to get advice from people all the time. especially when I deadlifted. the usual stuff like “wear a belt when you deadlift” or “your using your back not your legs”. When I definately have a straight back and no rounding.
Basically guys that are bigger think that gives them the right to give advice to everyone in the gym. In reality they were probably big before they started lifting. It’s more important to look at accomplishments in the gym not size.

Lol…I’d like him to come say shit to me and my team when we do face pulls on just about every heavy bench day.
It would be funny for him to get schooled by 165er who’s an anatomy FREAK. The kid also has a total of around 1600 at 165lb bodyweight, life long clean.
It’s situations like that, that give me a jaded view of bodybuilders in general. As was previously stated before in this thread…they hate doing exercises that do nothing for their ego. Keep doing face pulls. You will have healthier shoulders for it and in turn will be stronger.
hell you talking about? i do facepulls and i train for BBing.
i dont think anyone really trains their rear delts for an ego as you really cant go super heavy no matter what for them. most bbers will use like 25-40 pounds for rear delt flyes, that isnt exactly heavy.
Get bigger/stronger.
If you’re strong enough people don’t say shit.

Sage advice
If he laughs at you for doing face pulls. Can I just ask, does he just go around laughing at everyone in the gym? Because that would be one of the few legit exercises I see being performed.

To cut a long story short I had the piss taken out of me for doing face pulls and seated power cleans… and from the biggest guy in the gym. I did these exercises in addition to usual shrugs, rows, deadlifts and pull ups.
Ofcourse I have to respect his opinion on training because he’s twice the size of me, but he didnt know about anatomy because he said I could replace the db power cleans with front raises, face pulls with rows and dip shrugs with normal shrugs. Obviously I argued my point but it doesnt mean much to the other guy when he is about 50lbs heavier.
So what do you think am I training properly?
Hes not wrong persay and neither are you.
He simply doesn’t see a need to do anything “fancy”. Especially when your smaller.
When your smaller you stick to the basics, which is basically what he told you. Raises, rows, shrugs…
You cant work your lower traps till you have a set of traps.
I would have given you the same advice.
The fact that you’re so upset about this shows more about your own insecurity than your training. Who cares what he thinks? I only train in a public gym once a week, but I usually do:
Pulldowns with mini bands
Tate Presses
Rolling Triceps Extensions
Heavy Power Shrugs
Speed Bench with Bands
Face Pulls
All this shit makes me look “weird” I suppose, but that’s never really crossed my mind. I just listen to my ipod and give people dirty looks.
Keep doing your thing. Face pulls are useful as are the DB shrug external rotation (which is what I call them).
I bet this same guy has all kinds of stories about how he has done this or that (eg. I once did a 1000 pound deadlift). Pleeeeease jerk off.
The fact of the matter is, there are so many people out there who believe they know what is best for you. My dad use to tell me that 8 out of 10 people are complete idiots who do not know what the hell they are talking about. Call me cynical, but that is the single best piece of advice I have ever received.
i love face pulls. i feel like a dumb ass for neglecting them for several years. i ended up with overworked upper traps and underworked lower traps, which ended up causing me quite a bit of shoulder pain. after incorporating face pulls for a while, i am gradually noticing the pain going away. they’re great to keep your rotator cuff healthy.
maybe im wrong on this, but i have a feeling if he does the ratio of pushing to pulling im thinking of, then he might have problems wiping his own ass not too far from now. i probably shouldnt generalize like that, but the gym i go to… the bigger guys in there do mostly push exercises. i get plenty of looks for doing face pulls, romboid movements, external rotations, etc.
