I did this in HS for volleyball- and later for judo-
the crossfit people pimp it as the samson stretch
It really opens the hips ,lats and helps with posture.

I do it as a walking lunge

KMC didn’t tell you guys that he also wears a blue sports bra while doing this stretch. Claims it works better if you “feel sexy while doing it.”

Its true!
But its hard to pull off with the winter sweater…

You know, you can be inspiring, one way or the other

Great thread, thanx to all those who helped put it together.

At the risk of beating KMC to the punch, Eric Cressey posted some more good shoulder ideas:

I saw that in his email-
thanks for the link, good drills.

Priceless Information!

Thank You!

Help! I only see white boxes above. I assume those are supposed to be videos… I have tried in both Chromium 3 and IE 7 and get the same thing - white boxes. Grrrr.

I’m not exactly an old fart, but these links are gold.

Great thread!

I love this exercise, great for improving your squat form:

Don’t let your knees buckle in. The more advanced you are, the lower you can keep your hips when turning sides, it will look something like this:

There are lots of great articles on this site, so I’ve decided to put together some links so people that are not as bored as me don’t need to go trough the archives. I think these could be a great starting point for anyone new to joint mobility / dynamic flexiblity stuff.

The Only 6 Static Stretches You Really Need To Do

When I started lifting at 16 years old, I had the joint mobility of a corpse, most youths are so inflexible that I think this thread is relevant to anyone.

I’m thinking about purchasing the Z-Health Phase R DVD, has anyone experience with it? There’s lots of praise for it on the interwebzz, however very little information on what’s included. If anyone has it, I would be glad for some information about the specific parts of the program.

Now trying with Firefox - and STILL seeing only white boxes. No video. Help!

Great thread!! At 52 this stuff is so important.

what actually constitutes as “mobility work”?

is it just a combination of dynamic movements in warm ups and cool downs, stretching and foam rolling, or is there more to it?

im hypermobile, have had a couple of nasty injuries in the past, and combine that with lifting and golf everyday my body is pretty much always battered and im fearful of another sidelining injury, so i know i need to try and build up a thorough but not massively time consuming plan but i dont know where to start…

there’s just so much info, could anyway perhaps give me a place to start?

would be much appriciated

Mobility work is just that… stuff you do to enhance your mobility.

work, stress, injury and inactivity all contribute to a lack of mobility.

I use some or most of a program called magnificent mobility

couple that with some foam rolling amd stuff like jumping rope for a few minutes it takes 10 minutes.

when you say your hyper mobile do you mean ‘flexible’
or is hyper mobile something someone told you like a DR. If you go to a chiro or ostepopath,
who adjusts your back or neck they may refer to certain parts of your back- usually the ones that crack
as hyper mobile.

Ive been training for 20 years - all clean. I do martial arts whenever I feel that my mobility is lacking. It ensures all that muscle is 100% usable as opposed to just for show…it works for me.

kmc, just dropping by. Thanks so much for alerting me to this thread! Just spent…oh…30 mins watching the vids, all of this is much needed for me. Can’t wait to incorporate some of this stuff into my warm-up.

Thanks!!
