Mobility for Old Farts

KMC, great idea. You pointing me to some of these a few months ago has really helped me out. I’d also like to introduce all of you to Z-Health if you haven’t heard of it. The founder is Dr. Eric Cobb and the web site is www.zhealth.net. Steve Maxwell mentioned he got some of his ideas from Cobb. I borrowed the R-Phase dvd from a friend and it’s awesome. It’s worth the price on the web site. As a matter of fact, T-Mag should interview this guy.

They have, actually. And it is a pretty good system.

Maybe I should use the search more often. The article ts called DJM Training. They already interviewed him.

FWIW - These are the only exercises I could do after I was cleaned up in a car accident. Great/low impact way to get the blood pumping. All you really need is a stretch cord and a door frame:

And the T-Nation article

And KMC - great thread!

Thanks Al38!
I like the band stretch stuff, nice work.
I have some stuff, I need to re-find on youtube, Ill get those up at somepoint.

Think its just stuff we need , that we all neglect…

I have another idea for a thread- Big guy energy systems work I dont know what kind of interest people would have.
But lets keep pimping this one out first!

I don’t know if I’m an old fart, technically speaking (33yo), but I feel like one. This thread is great. I’ll contribute:

May seem like common sense, but I imagine this is a good stretch to do in the office 2-3 times a day. I just did it, and I can really feel it in my hip flexors.

Keep up the good work, guys.

EDIT: I posted this link b/c it is the first time I’ve seen it explained so that performing it limits the stretch to the hip flexors, and not the quads.

It’s going to take me forever to get through all this information, now I’ll be so busy I won’t have time to die!

Thanks everyone for all the info and advice!

Thanks KMC, and thanks Mods! Now, for sale… slightly used lime green sequined speedo… best offer?

Nothing much to add, I just hope this thread stays around. I’m 72 and been lifting most of my life.
I usually warm up by starting out with a light weight and working my way up. No stretching except for squats.
It’s good to be able to compare notes with older guys. Thanks!

Here is something called throwers ten.
shoulder junk
some of it is pretty familiar

Here is another shoulder stretch- courtesy of Steve Kotter,
of kettle bell fame, ignore the kumbaya aspects of it,
and think about the mobility aspect

Firstly KMC thanks… appreciated…

reminds me of the Old York barbell mags, they had a coach, called Smithy… used to say to the younger lifters who were in a hurry to train

“if you have not had the time to stretch you don’t have the time to train…”

of course when I was 19 I never quite got it…

saw a piece by Larry Judge well know hammer coach (and top USA throws coach) on core training,
he split the year into three seasons for the training

firstly endurance (very small)
second mobilty / with increasing power
finally power /with reducing mobilty.

I am paying more attention to the mobility side now, the throwing weights keep getting lighter, only so much power you need…

compete /rest/ and repeat

the same exercise can be mobility and power by simple reducing range of motion and jacking up teh weight…

Come on, you know you are still going to wear it in private!!

90/90 stretch Its been helping me allot with tight It band and piriformis issues
its quite revealing as to which side is tighter.

its not the greatest video.

and the seated version…

this is ok, but dude needs better posture- head up with a straighter back.

does anyone in here have any expierence with celebrex? Dr. said i have arthritis in both knees and put me on celebrex. i know there were several health concerns in the past, but that most of these claims were fabricated. i would like the pain and stiffness to go away, bu not at the cost of my health

This is a great thread, thanks a lot! I have to get my ass in gear and start with some mobility and stretching exercises, I’m terrible for this!

Awesome stuff fucker. Thanks for this Kmc

Mods - I vote for stickiness. It’s at least as important as TRT.[/quote]

My vote too.

I’ll note that just doing deep bodyweight squats can do a lot for mobility.
