MMGALB727's Training Log

I would go with prowler, push ups and inverted rows. Put some weight on that prowler. If she has never lifted before, your not going to be able to use much resistance anyways and she could get hurt (trap bar dead). Where as the chance of injury with the prowler is next to zero and it will kick her ass. If she survives that i would go with a cosgrove bodyweight complex.

I heard you had fun trying to help someone with their deadlift the other day

Goodtimes

Jim

Hmm…I think my ā€œpilates fusionā€ class is much like your friends class - total muscle fatigue. But I quite enjoy it, especially since there’s a lot of ab work and inadvertent stretching involved. Never thought it might be counter productive though?! Yikes.

LOL! I love that you’re going to put her to the challenge - let us know how she does!

Bobbi - hahahaha… why would she ever hate that workout? ;D No but seriously I highly doubt she would ever get into lifting even if she liked it. She is VERY hourglass and would get very paranoid about getting ā€œbulkyā€ from weights… and while she is in good shape, she loves her food and alcohol too much to get lean enough (and stay that way) for weightlifting to do anything except make her bigger. (i.e. she would add muscle but would like not lose enough fat covering the muscle and would therefore only increase in size…)

Jim-bo: I wasn’t planning on using much weight w/ her… but she has danced for 20+ years and has amazing body awareness. She could get in perfect form from me simply saying, ā€œsquat down to the bar, chest up, butt out, nice natural arch in your lower back, load your arms, push your heels into the floor and load your glutes and bring your hips to stand upā€¦ā€ I was thinking the trap bar with the 10 kg on each side… hmm… we will see. I will keep in mind what you said and monitor her closely! Nothing set in stone yet… but I see her doing exceptionally well in the weight room for a first-timer or I would not have even considered taking her through that workout…

P.S. yes it was pretty bad! But Sarah said the girl had not even read the book before attempting the workout! That’s ridiculous! You can’t really help someone who won’t help themselves…you know?

Masch - yes, the classes are prob quite similar. I could see how you could get a bit ā€˜addicted’ to the super fatigued, burning, shaky feeling that you get from the class. But yes, training your muscles for muscular endurance is pretty much the opposite of training them for strength… but it’s all about what is most important to you. If you LOVE that class and don’t want to give it up, then don’t! But you have to realize that it MIGHT be negatively affecting your quest for strength… =-/

Oh yeah… I should also add that she is the type that ENJOYS the shaky, pukey, exhausted feeling and from what I can tell, she believes that feeling SORE = good workout. That was another reason for my higher volume approach…

Molly:

I see says the bee

I have no doubt you will do a great job

It seemed like you were out for blood. So prowler is always my favorite when trying to make a point. For two years while I was aspen i worked with nothing but figure skaters and dancers (the non pole type) lol

I was amazed at how many girls could do all sorts of crazy stuff on skates but when it came to basic lifting movements were lost. It would kind be like me taking a yoga or pilates class. (you have seen me do yoga It is not pretty lol)

you are right they have amazing body awareness and they catch on super quick and can get stupid retared strong. You will be amazed at some the issues that she will have after 20 years of dancing. Also when you first starting doing the main lifts the body will find a way to do the lift as you are aware. it might look good but she might be lifting with her back or what ever else it takes to get the baby up.

Training someone who can do everything you ask and is a good athlete is very tuff so you really have no idea what is going on inside the body. Especally when you are dealing with someone the judges how go the work out is by how sore they get. it is much easier to train someone who sucks because the chances of over doing it are slim to none (especally when the coach is smart like you) and the expectations are much much lower.

As for our starting strength friend I have shown her rack pulls three times, shown her the warm up, ankle mobilty stuff, roller this list goes on and on. I explained to her she needs to take a break from squating and deadlifting till she gets her mobility issues fixed  She is stupid strong thoe lol Bless her heart for trying (throw some southern KY in there) I used to BANG my head agaist the wall over stuff like this. Then I ran out of walls so I stopped.

I guess i should put that saying in here about leading someone to water …

Big squat day tomm my spainish is getting better everyday

Good luck with project purebar

Jim

lol@the non-pole type!

Jim - thanks for the encouragement. Hope squatting went well with Pookie Bear today. Sorry I didn’t get back to you… I have been working like a mad woman! =D Training Tony is great! His schedule is pretty crazy right now… but we train about once a week together… hopefully more when basketball season is over and his schedule relaxes a bit. Hope you are doing well! We need to get together soon… maybe me, you, Sarah and Joann can do omelets at Ramsey’s sometime next week? =D

I will let you know how things go w/ my dancer friend. And I was mistaken… she actually lifted weights with a trainer 3x a week for about 3 months. Sounded like the trainer halfway knew what she was doing… so maybe my friend is even more prepared than I anticipated… we will see… =D

So I haven’t been able to train for shit this week! My schedule is INSANE and I am not even sure when I can train again next… maybe Sunday? YIKES! I can do Monday for sure… but anyway… I am working SO MUCH right now. It’s good because I am super blessed to be VERY busy during this recession… but I need a BREAK!!! =P

Hey! Cbear! Wanna go to the Northern with me again this year? It’s in like 5 weeks or sumthin… Siouxsie can come too! Let me know! okthxbie…

Molly, I love your attitude - you are indeed blessed!

But yeah, ha, I’m sure you DO need a break - maybe the Northerns? (I’m acting as if I know WTF that is)

ā€œpookie-bearā€ is doing great !!! He has come along way in a very short time. He is starting to understand the lifts and is picking up on his own mistakes. We box squatted last night because of some crazy weird position his sits in (i’ll just blame it on you  ) did something to his knee.

He is finally starting to use his glutes instead of his low back and he seems to be really enjoying lifting. He has also talked about adding third day which he needs to do. I wanted him to come to that realization on his own.

I think you will be amazed at what will happen to him over the next few months he has turned out to be a great lifting partner and my spanish gets better and better every week.

hmmmmmm omelet’s at ramsey’s with my three favorite ladies you just let me know when. I find it hard to believe you will have time lol

That’s good the b ball guy is doing well training is so much go by the fly because peoples lives are crazy. That’s good about the dancer but as we know just because someone has worked with someone doesn’t mean jack crap lol

Hang in there with work at this rate you will be retired by 30 lol

Jim

hmmmmmmm omelet’s at ramsey’s you better not be teasing

Masch - the Northern is the largest ONE-DAY bodybuilding, figure and bikini competition in North America (there are plenty of other bigger events but they are 2 days long… this one is only 1 day)… it’s lots of fun and I usually have at least 3-4 friends competing… plus other acquaintances that I know from the competition circuit. It’s always a good time… plus it will be my 1 year anniversary of meeting CBear in person… CRAZY!

Cbear - I would love a kit kat… but I had PLENTY of sweets/cheat food yesterday for Valentine’s Day! We actually had blueberry muffins, pizza, cinna-stix, a chicken philly cheesesteak, a club sandwich, french fries, a cheeseburger, mashed potatoes, mike and ikes, M&Ms, Raisinets, and Ben and Jerry’s Ice cream! YUMMMM!

Jim - I will talk to Sarah and Jo about Ramsey’s and let you know! =D

OK… about to go to the gym! Will let you know how it goes! =D

Wow, I’m loving your V-day menu!! Sounds like my food intake so far today, lol. Hope your workout goes great!

Oh I got the pics of ur cheat food… nonsense, woman, nonsense. I’m so proud!! How did the gym feel after the smorgasbord?

I need to know what ā€œcinna-stixā€ are. That sounds delicious.

RBlue - Mmm… yum! Sounds like your VDay was as yummy as mine!

CBear - Well smorgasbord was Sunday and gym was Monday night… didn’t feel like it affected me that much one way or the other. Had a good workout though! Nothing too crazy happened except I had to decrease the weight on my split stance cable press b/c my form was sucking (so Sarah told me the other day)… other than that, weight and volume increased on everything! YIPPEE!!!

Kimba - they are HEAVEN! They are made my Papa Johns… they use yummy dough and then instead of pizza sauce and toppings, the dough is covered in butter and sugar and cinnamon and baked and served with icing as the dipping sauce… it’s GLORIOUSSSS!!!

So like I said, workout yesterday was good… weight increased on almost everything… form felt good too. My dancer friend is working out with me tomorrow… I think she is a little nervous… but I will play it relatively conservative =D Will let you know how it goes!

I’m glad I’m not the only person who goes balls out on the cheats - good work Molly! lol.

Also good work on the training, as per usual.

Have fun with your friend tonight - I hope she pleasantly surprises you!

Hmmmmmm omlet

Thoes things from papa Johns sound amazing (might have to give them a try this weekend)

Molly I am shocked !!! You, use to much weight lol

never

Jim

MaSch: we go all out on cheat days around these parts I think my all time cheat day pr is something like 34 ice cream sandwiches and almost a 40lbs weight gain in one day (ahhhhh the power of water).
