Great job on the front squat progression. I am always mesmerized by your squat videos because your form is so excellent and your legs are so freaking long! I can’t imagine what it would feel like to have that ROM
True. I see tall people in the gym and just wince for them. But you make it look easy.
Absolutely! Those front squats looked incredible. Great job with that.
Molly <3 foam rolling! Keep at it girl.
prolly lame to state the obvious, but molly you are incredible pretty much all around.
your insane working hours + positive attitude and getting your training in is inspiring…wooo hooooooooo!
actually, you deserve a RAWR!!!
One arm swings with a 44lb KB? I’ve got one that weighs that much and I haven’t really dared play with it yet (it’s the heaviest of a set of three). I’m going to have to go and try it now aren’t I.
Owlie - thank you! Yeah I was reading an article about bball players squatting the other day and it was saying something like, “Back squatting is not always a good idea for basketball players. Their bodies are not made for it. If you have a person with very long legs and a short torso, they will often have problems with back squatting and will be forced to have an excessive forward lean due to their femur to torso ratio… blah blah blah” or something like that. I am not a basketball player but damnit I am all legs and NO TORSO! Looks like it’s an uphill battle for me vs. squats. I love my legs but curse them when I am trying to find jeans or about to back squat. (BTW, they recommend that bball players stick to front squats or trap bar deadlifts and lots of single leg work).
Alisa - thank you! The 3x10 didn’t feel so easy on Monday! But I think it was because I was so worn out! Got lots of sleep the last few nights though! YAY!
Masch - Thank you! They actually looked better than I thought they would! =D
Tal - I will take your RAWR any day! It’s funny how getting into the gym 3 days a week is practically n accomplishment right now. I remember when I was training 5-6 days a week no questions asked! Ahhh… college! ;D
Cal - yes you will! It actually pulled on my traps a bit and they are SORE today! I have been rolling them a lot with a firm rubber ball (looks like a doggie chew toy thing) and they feel better but OUCH! Let me know how it goes! =D
Just finished my 2nd day of my 3x10 set/rep scheme for my 2nd workout. That may not make any sense to you all… but I know what I am talking about that is what matters! ;D
Stuck with 143 on front squats again today because I had no spotter and don’t like relying on the pins to catch me. They were quite hard but I am confident that they looked pretty good… probably similar to the ones in the video above. I also increased my weight on just about everything else… so that was good… definitely making progress! Very few people in the gym today so I had minimal distractions/assholes trying to talk to me… Finished the workout in just under 1:50 (WITHOUT my energy systems work which I skipped today due to time)… but to be fair I spent about an extra 5-10 minutes foam rolling… so that held me up a bit.
That’s all for now folks! I plan on foam rolling and doing my energy systems work tomorrow but we will see how that goes!
Assholes trying to talk to you… LOL!!! that’s what you get for being a nice person!!
look at this picture of my nephew/niece/daughter/son/dog!! Look at this one!!
Look at this text!
what do you think about…
Listen to what _____ said…
I should make you a shirt that says, “FUCK OFF!! My training is more important than what you have to say. Seriously. Walk away.”
killin it in here molly! keep it up girlie. u rock.
f sq 10x143? odd number but nice weight!
CBear - make me that shirt and I’ll wear it! OK… that’s a lie… but I will frame it and take $15 of the money you owe me ;D
P.S. Let me go ahead and address this now… NO you MAY NOT repay that in sexual favors. Sax won’t let you. =(
Deja - thank you lovely! When I first saw my workout I was like, “REALLY??? I know this is good for rehab but how am I ever going to actually get a good WORKOUT IN?” Umm… now I am eating humble pie… I am always sweating and dreading my next set in that lovely, lovely way that you do when you are working hard… =D
rcfromdb - It’s cuz I am using a safety bar which I thought weighed 68 lbs… then I remember that that’s the CAMBERED bar that weighs that much… so I googled the weight of the safety bar and have gotten every number from 65-80 lbs… so I will stick with 68. So 68 lbs + 70 lbs of plate + 5 lbs for the collars = 143… it kinda bugs me that it’s an odd weight… but oh well! I am pleased about getting it for 3 sets of 10 reps with weighted pushups in between! =D Thanks for popping by!!
Weighted pushups in between! Nice. How did you weight them?
Thanks Kimba! I just put a 10 lb plate in the small of my back. Pushups are kind of like pullups for me… I have to do them all the time or I will get really bad at them, even if I am getting stronger everywhere else. For example, last May I was doing decline pushups (so my feet elevated on a swiss ball) with a 25 lb plate on my back for 16 reps… well my bench press has gone up since May… and when I started this program 10 regular old pushups with just my body weight were hard for me because I hadn’t done them in forever! hahahah… weird! Anyway… so right now I am back up to 3 sets of 10 with a 10 lb plate on my back in between my sets of front squats. Not too shabby but I want to get much stronger on them!
So yesterday I just went in and did some foam rolling and my energy systems work which was Kettlebell Swings. I actually prefer a DB for KB swings unless I am doing them with 1 hand… then I prefer a KB. Yesterday was 2 handed DB swings… here is how it went:
Dumbbell swings
7 sets of 10 reps using a 60 lb DB
30 seconds rest in between sets
Geez my booty and glute ham tie-in are sore today! =D
*** Plus I love it when I grab a 60 lb DB and the guys in the gym look at me like, “what is she going to do with that!?!?” =D
Yeah, that’s where KB swings hit me. How the blazes do you swing a 60lb dumbell though? I can row one, but my grip goes pretty quickly. I use a 16kg KB usually, although I have a 20 (44lb) at home. That one feels pretty enormous. I can swing it but since I have to carry whatever KB I’m using 400 yards to the gym, I usually use the 16.

WTF, Molly!?
I was excited to start using the 16KG KB, you just burst my bubble.
But you’ve challenged me to go heavier…I like the idea.
I also feel it in my traps on certain days, ouch!
Decline pushups with a plate, interesting.
ya, vid please! ![]()
Cal - yeah I would prob stick with the 16 kg if I had to carry it with me to the gym too! Plus you do lots of other cool things with the KBs… I am just swinging it =D
Skye - Don’t let your bubble be burst! I actually had no clue I could do it… I just went for it! I am sure you will be doing them in no time! But yeah… doing them 1 handed makes my traps really sore! =-/ 2 handed is not bad though! I LOVE decline weighted pushups when I am good at them! ;D You should try 'em! =D
Mom-in-Md - Video of the swings or the pushups hat Skye referenced? =D
whatever you got,I’m not picky ![]()

Molly, this exact thing just happened to me. My bench has been (slowly) going up. But I haven’t trained pushups in a long time, and I barely eke out 10 regular ones yesterday! Time for me to train pushups!
