MLB Thread: 2013

I can’t imagine he will get banned for life. Manny Ramirez still has a chance of playing in the MLB after all his failed tests. Arod, while he has admitted to using steroids and failed what was supposed to be an anonymous test, has yet to fail a test under the new testing rules. It would be a shock to see someone who hasn’t failed a test under the new testing rules to get a lifetime ban as opposed to someone that has failed multiple tests.

But it does matter. If he continually gets injured in his attempts to come back this season he can establish a pattern basically showing that he is incapable of continuing his career due to injury. If that is the case, he can collect the rest of his contract, which is about $110 million. If he is suspended, whether it’s for life or 50 games or somewhere in between, he doesn’t get paid. Braun is losing about $3million now. Rodriguez could lose all $110 million if he’s suspended for life, despite the insurance policy he has on the contract. The Yankees would be off the hook regardless since they have also insured his contract in case he ends his career prematurely due to injury.

I think that’s why he came up with a lame quad in his last rehab game. I don’t think he actually injured himself at all. He’s simply trying to establish a “legitimate” reason to call his career to an end in a way that will allow him to collect his cash before MLB can suspend him. I’m sure that’s why he isn’t taking any sort of deal with MLB despite the fact that all sources are reporting that the evidence against him is MUCH more damning than what they had on Braun. Rodriguez tried to buy all the files that could be used as evidence against him. That simply isn’t the move an innocent man would make. It’s the move a man who knows that those files contain concrete proof that the guy is a fucking roid monkey would make.

Three straight walkoff homers for the Rangers. Hopefully this gets them going before they lose Cruz.

Rooting for the Pirates aswell, best record right now, they will atleast get a wild card spot. Will be fun to see them in the playoffs again.

BUMP

A-Rod it a homer of Verlander yesterday, barely over the 318 ft. wall, but a homer nonetheless.

Am I the only one rooting for A-Rod? I think the 211 game suspension was way overboard and watching A-Rod play to the disgust of the Yankees and the commissioner is some fun theatre. Also, hearing A-Rod say the fan reaction has been “awesome” is hilarious.

I don’t think the suspension was overboard at all. First of all, it sounds like MLB has pretty concrete evidence against A-Rod. It’s the same evidence that was so concrete that all of the other players took their suspensions without even bothering to appeal. And everything I’ve heard is that the evidence against A-Rod was the most damning.

And what exactly did he do? Was he simply cheating by using banned substances? Oh no, not at all. Not only was he cheating, he steered other players to BioGenesis so that they could also cheat. He lied and stonewalled MLB repeatedly. When he came out and admitted that he had used PEDs back in 2003 or whatever, the reality is that he had continued using them the entire time. And then he attempted to buy the files that will bring him down so that he could destroy them.

So I don’t think his suspension is overboard at all, given that he was cheating, encouraging others to do the same, obstructed justice, attempted to bribe people, lied and basically stole a shitload of money from the Yankees when you consider that they signed him to such a large contract under the assumption that A-Rod was clean and on his way to breaking Bonds’ record, a rare commodity that they were willing to overpay for and got burned instead by a liar, a cheat and a selfish prick. Fuck A-Rod and fuck everyone who defends him.

DB,

You owe me 2 months of punishment avatars.

1 month for the Jays-Giants season series

1 month for Dickey-Zito ERA bet.

When will you be done your current avatar punishment and be ready to start mine?

Oh don’t get me wrong, I am not defending anything he has done. He no doubt deserves to be suspended. Personally I don’t think what he did was 3x worse than what Braun did, or 211x worse than what Bonds did, but really the amount of games is just semantics. He is obviously a guilty man.

I’m just rooting for the guy for complete dislike of the Yankees (I hate capitalizing that) and the theatre of it all. It’s good drama. Pro sports is the first reality television, and this season is delivering.

And how delusional A-Rod’s comments are absolutely cracking me up. Reminds me…

I don’t owe you shit for the first avatar bet regarding the Jays/Giants series. The bet was that I sport an avatar of your choice for one month after their matchups were over and a winner was determined. That was like three months ago. You never gave me an avatar to use and now I’m locked into other bets for literally the rest of the year. That boat sailed away, pal.

And as far as the Zito bet goes, if I’m not mistaken we had an innings threshold on that one. 1 inning pitched for every game played, which means Zito needs to throw 162 innings to qualify. It doesn’t look like he’s even going to get there as of now since he’s only thrown about 113 innings and he’s not in the rotation anymore. When he hits 162 innings you can give me an avatar to use since I have already reserved the month of October for you. That’s when I’ll be ready to start using yours.

Who the hell did I make that bet with about Kershaw’s ERA? Looks like that fucker is going to finish with an ERA well under 2.00.

Raj, I have an avatar bet on the 49ers/Seahawks game in early September. If I lose, I have to use someone’s avatar for a month, which will take me into October. After that, if Zito finished with a higher ERA than Dickey and he throws the requisite innings, I’ll use your avatar. But I’m booked until then and I have enough avatar bets on the Niners to last me until well after the Super Bowl if I lose them all.

Since when does this expire? I said we should hold off until the end of the season in case the Zito/Dickey bet cancel each other out.

I guess I shouldn’t be surprised a feral degenerate such as yourself wouldn’t honor his bets.

Jesus Christ, you’re right.

It was anonymity.

Do you ever win these bets? What’s your record in avatar bets?

Cody Ross with dislocated hip? Hernandez optioned to AAA.

We seem to get bad money after good these past few weeks. Hopefully we can replace Cody Ross’ lost stats when we replaced Hernandez and Ross isn’t out for too long.

Why are we going in the wrong direction…7 games down… I’ll never know. At least we’re still 2nd/13th spot.

YOU made that statement. I never agreed to anything other than to use whatever avatar you chose for me for the month following the bet. That month came and went three months ago and you never came to collect. It’s not my fault you made some ill-fated assumption about the terms of the bet. I’m not responsible for making sure you come and collect on it. If you want to wait until I have no other bets on the line, fine. But the NFL season is fast approaching and I can guarantee you that I’m going to end up with several more bets by the end of the year.

So if you want another chance to come and collect, fine. But you better be rooting for the 49ers this season, because if they don’t do nearly as well as I think they will it could be next April before you get to see me using whatever Godforsaken avatar you have chosen for me. So put it in here somewhere and I’ll make sure I use it when I don’t have any other outstanding bets.

I should have expected a degenerate Blue Jays fan to have no clue how to handle actually winning something.

I’m 5-2 in avatar bets, and I would have been 6-2 if Pat had any fucking balls and laid one on the line in the NFC Championship Game. Of course, no one was willing to bet against the Niners in the Super Bowl and I was furiously trying to get a several-month-long avatar bet on that one. I guess I lucked out there.

Oh man I don’t even want to watch the playoffs when baseball comes. Can’t stand the Dodgers and I hate seeing them win.

Heard this bit of “trivia” on Max & Marcellus radio show last week:

Name the player who over their career has broken up 81 no-hitters with a homerun.

Does the question assume the no hitter could be happening in the first or second inning?

Ricky Henderson has 81 career lead-off homeruns(I double checked the stat because he was my guess, wanted to be sure), so either that’s a yes or an AMAZING coincidence.

Yep, you guys figured it right.
