MLB Thread: 2013

You can see the orange on his bat from last night.

Ya, kinda strange. He’s been hot for a while now, not just last night, so the bat equipment thing is most likely just a coincidence.

I’m excited to see how tonight’s game goes.

Did you see the stats on Melky, Jose, and Edwin since the lineup was changed ? ( to 1-2-3 respectively )

They are batting something like 450,600,450, respectively since the shake-up. Seems a little odd of an order but I say stick with what’s working.

What do you expect? He’s been a joke since he joined the Giants.
Yep. Beach balls
Which he summarily grounded through the hole between first and second. What would Rasmus do with a 90 mph fastball right down the middle? Break his bat?

I guess you must have missed all three rounds of the postseason last year. Typical of a Padres fan.
He had a good postseason last year and had a good start thos year. However, that hardly makes up for his extreme underperformanc since he signed with the Giants especially considering what he gets paid. Still had an ERA over 4 last year and there is NO WAY he will finish this season with an ERA under 4. He pitches in a damn good pitchers park aswell. I will take a bet with anyone who thinks Zito will finish the season with an ERA under 4.

Lets go with strikeout since he’s probably leading the league or close to.

How about a bet that he finishes with an ERA lower than Dickey’s?

I cant take that bet. I have no faith in knuckleballers. I can understand why you wont take the Zito under 4 ERA bet straight up. I think you would agree that it would be a miracle for that to happen.

I propose a bet for you DB: The Rangers will finish with a lower team ERA than the Giants
Maiden3.16 wrote:

You’re on. The Giants have pitched like shit and are still right behind Texas at 3.81 to 3.53. Once summer hits Arlington and winter hits SF, the ball is going to fly out of the Rangers’ park and it’s not going anywhere at AT&T Park.

Actually, now that I think about it, I’m booked for avatar bets that time of the year. I already have one with Raj, I have a standing avatar bet with someone on all Niners/Seagulls games and they play in Week 2, and I have a bet that Kershaw finishes with an ERA above 1.99. If you want to potentially have to wait a bit in case I lose these other bets I have out there right now, that’s fine. But I’m already having trouble keeping them all straight.

Jesus Christ

Watching the Giants is horrifying

No worries bragging rights is enough for me

Apparently astro turf hinders your ability to catch fly balls

Astroturf and domes have no place in baseball.

Jays are doing their part to ensure you win the bet

I’m fine with it. A common recommendation from people in the Saber community is to optimize your lineup, it’s best to have your best hitter hit 2nd.

Not that it makes a huge difference vs the 3 hole. What it really comes downs to is they’re finally heating up after being extremely cold in April and early May

So you guys paid him all that money just for those three good rounds in the postseason? I’m sorry, but other than that the guy is way overpaid. I have nothing against the Giants, I even like Bochy. I just think Zito is a douche and overpaid. Seriously, what the hell has he done other than pitch good in the playoffs last year? Can’t even get under a 4.0 ERA for a full year pitching in the NL west.

I don’t like Zito anymore than you do, but “other than pitch good in the playoffs last year”? Come on, you sound like Buddy Ryan criticizing Cris Carter for “only scoring touchdowns.” HIs pitching in the divisional series and the NLCS was a HUGE part of them getting to the Series, where he once again pitched well. He’s hardly earned his salary over the course of the contract’s life, but he was basically signed to help the team win a title and that is exactly what he did last year. He wasn’t the reason they didn’t win anything prior to 2010 or in 2011, so while he hasn’t exactly earned every paycheck he certainly earned it last year.

Damn verlander got owned by the rangers yet again. Excuse my bias, and I know its early, but I would have to go with the Rangers as the beat team in the league right now. Ill go with the giants in the NL, all the peices there and theres no way they lose that division with the way the dodgers are playing.

Also what the yankess are doing, as much as i dislike them, is pretty amazing. Lets see if they can keep it up now that pettite is out too. IfIf they can stay close througbh the all star break they have a good chance of being a playoff team. However, they are not a threat for a WS title.

I gotta believe that Josh Hamilton and Albert Pujols, at some point, are going to think “damn I fucked up signing with a different team.” Im sure Pujols thought that at some point last year. Its gotta be tough to see your former team doing so well without you, especially considering that they surely thought they were one of the main reasons for their teams success. I certainly do not feel sorry for them.

I think the Rangers have a high chance of struggling down the stretch.

Berkman is not exactly a fountain of youth. Cruz can never really manage to stay on the field. I think they have trouble replacing both of those guys. If they go down/lose steam that team has basically lost their best eye at the plate and biggest power number guy. Offense could stagnate.
