More like 60lbs. Winning the World Series MVP was the worst thing that could have happened to him. When they won it all in 2010 he barely played in it and the Giants held that fact over his head the whole offseason as motivation to get his fat ass in shape.

He’s been heavily shamed into losing some weight, but obviously the shaming hasn’t worked at all.

Pretty exciting opening day. What a game for Kershaw. Nice to see the Giants lose. Baseball is under Way!

Agreed on all counts.

It would be great if they somehow both lost!! haha.

Did anyone else find it cool when the Astros brought out Bedard their 5th starter to pitch in relief? Total saber move.

Astros are being built by a pretty sabermetric front office, will be interesting to see how things pan out in ~3 years

Saber move? That had nothing to do with sabermetrics.

It was because he hadn’t thrown in a few days already and with an off day coming up his start wasn’t going to be for a while. Since the Astros don’t plan on skipping the fifth starter when an off day presents itself so that the other four throw on regular rest, it doesn’t make sense to let the fifth starter go that long without pitching in an actual game at the beginning of the year. He needs to stay sharp and build up strength early in the season. That isn’t a move you’re going to see them make at all once things have been underway for a bit and he has a few starts under his belt.

Ah, the Braves are undefeated! 1rst place baby!
We look GOOD.

This should be a great year. It’s nice to see the that the Yankees won’t be a factor this year, except maybe spoiler. All those ‘Win now’ contracts are catching up to them.
Youk made a big mistake going to NY, save for the paycheck of course. He looks like a dork with out facial hair.

Don’t come to me with your problems. No one can make you feel uneasy without your help, so get right with yourself first.

Arencibia the POS catcher who I mentioned earlier in this thread already has 3 passed balls catching Dickey .

It’s only the top of the third. Shit show

And 2 Ks of his own

Bryce Harper is on pace to hit 324 home runs.

In all reality though, the nats are going to be a fun team to watch.

aaaaaannnnd the whirling Darvish is perfect through 8.

He got close, but that was a fastball right down the middle.

Just a retarded statement…yeah those “win now” contracts really were bad for them…it only took 20 years for them TO PAY DA PRICE…so laughable. Your idea that the Yanks will not be a threat in the east where all the teams are pretty evenly matched is just as laughable of a statement.

Check out this play by Evan Longoria

Longo is one of those “only-if…” players for me.

His second full season he went 100-33-113 .281/.364/.526

I’ve had him in a fantasy keeper league since 2010. For the past 3 years if he isn’t on the DL he is constantly dealing with nagging injuries that keep him below 100%.

As you showed above sometimes I forget how unbelievable his glove, arm and range is.

I wish there was a season where he was completely unhindered by back/wrist/hammy/[insert other nagging injury here]

Kind of like Josh Hamilton. Only-if he stayed totally focused on baseball and avoided the injury bug, could we be talking about the greatest hitter of all time? I thought this was a pretty interesting article on him: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2012/writers/the_bonus/06/29/josh-hamilton-tim-crothers/index.html

I hate to break it to you Matty, but the Yankees are not evenly-matched with the Rays at all. They compare most closely to the Red Sox and perhaps the Orioles, but even that is a stretch. I’m not sold on the Jays yet, since their ace (Dickey) has had exactly one really good year and their second-best pitcher (Johnson) struggles to stay healthy. But they’re still heads and shoulders above the Yankees.

The Yankees are a bunch of name players on their last legs. A-Rod won’t be a factor at all this year, Jeter has lost a step and a half and is on the DL, Ichiro is a shell of his former self, Youkilis is injury-prone and although he’s healthy now, I don’t expect that to last very long. He hasn’t been any good the last couple years anyways. Vernon Wells sucks.

They have no starting pitching other than Sabathia. Hughes has never done much, Nova is above average but will never be confused for an ace, Kuroda is on the downside and Andy Pettitte is a fucking joke now. They have two excellent relievers in Rivera and Robertson, but they don’t have anything else to speak of relief-wise, which means they’ll have trouble keeping themselves in games and getting to those two for the most part.

This is clearly the least-talented Yankees team in 20 years, even without all the injuries. Add in the fact that they have most of the top/middle of the lineup on the DL and this is by far the worst Yankees team to take the field since the days of Danny Tartabull. To top things off, the rest of the teams in the division, aside from Boston, are the best they’ve been in years. In all likelihood, the Yankees will finish in last place. Best-case scenario for them would be third place and elimination from the second wild card slot in mid-September.

I gotta agree on all accounts. Travis Hafner? Vernon Wells? Lyle Overbay? Kevin Youkilis? Andy Pettitte? Ichiro?..Sounds like they went over to the retirement home and picked up a few guys who used to play ball.

Sabathia and Cano can only carry that team so far.
