Suit yourself For what it’s worth, I’m not a huge fan of affirmative action/DEI in the first place, like I said here a while back:

The whole “legacy admissions are bad, therefore we should keep affirmative action” argument that I’ve seen a few times over the past couple days seems like pretty clear-cut whataboutism. I’m with you, I think neither should exist.

I could see some valid argument being made for affirmative action by parental income rather than by race, but to suggest that the children of a black businessperson in New York City are disadvantaged in a way that the children of a white coal miner in rural West Virginia aren’t (at least in terms of stuff relevant to admissions) is absurd to me.

I‘ve heard the argument you’re making several times before, and I just don’t put much stock in it. Maybe you’re right, and it is a life-experience thing, but from where I’m standing, the potential loss of pride/dignity is a non-factor compared to the benefits that the target of a DEI program can reap, and it would be unreasonable to expect them to oppose a program that provides them such benefits.
