$.48

You think it cost USPS $.48 to ship a package?
LoL. I was thinking the same thing. I mean, it was only a year ago they were talking about shutting down the USPS b/c they bleed so much money and owe so much money in pensions.

In the case of the post office, because my wife works there, so I know what goes on. They earn 30+ dollars an hour, they have 4 people doing the job of one, they get 6-8 weeks a year holidays, it’s bloated, and poorly run, but it dosen’t matter, because they don’t have to operate with a bottom line in mind. If they come in over bugget, they just get a bigger bugget next year, and our taxes go up.

You can’t run a real companey like this, if there was two private companies competing for our mail buisness, they would have to keep prices compeative, and watch they’re bottom line. This is the nature of buisiness, but goverment offices don’t have to run like this, they become out of control, and top heavy, with too maney beucrats getting over paid, to do nothing, real companies can’t, and don’t have this.

The CEO of Canada post ( figure head) is Tupac Shopra, he makes over a million dollars a year from Canada post, and does nothing for them. He goes around the world writing books on inner peace, and teaching yoga or some shit, but gets a cheque from Canada post. I only know all this because of my wife, but I’m sure every other goverment segment is run like this. I have no problem paying taxes, but there way to high right now, especialy for small buisiness, and the money gets wasted.

It’s become all the same, it dosen’t matter who you vote for, they’re all the same now days, bloated money wasters, only worried about they’re own ass, and how much money they can make themselves, and they’re corprate buddies. Big mega companies like Walmart, and such, get huge tax breaks, because they do shady deals behind closed doors, as long as the politians, are getting rich themselves, they let they’re corprate buddies smash the middle class.

Think about it, if Walmart wants wages even lower, then they back a politian, and use they’re money to get him in power, then he owes them, and lower’s the minum wage even further. This is how it gets done, and unless you have a couple billion dollars, your voice dosen’t matter anymore. Nobody’s voted in anymore, they’re bought by powerful organizations, then spend they’re time in ofice granting favours. It’s been this way for awhile and I can’t see it changing. The rich get richer, and the middle class disapears. Reality, everyone gets bought, or pushed aside, and buried

That $20.20 was the smallest envelope I could find on Fed Ex. that $.48 is regular postage rate VIA Ms. Pittbulll

Okay, assume for the sake of argument, that FedEx has a 50% profit margin. (It doesn’t but let’s just say.) That would put the cost of that shipment at $10.

So you think, because it is run by the government the USPS can do it at 5% of the cost of a private provider? 5%?

Just because it cost you $.48 does not mean it costs $.48 to ship in total. The cost to pick it up from you mail box is more than $.48…

You can run a company like that . The reason the rate is $.48 is because the USPS can not raise the rate with out Congress’s permission.

Package size isn’t all that relevant to FedEx, it is weight based. (You are charged a little more for not using their packaging, but…) So is USPS. Something that weighs a pound is going to be more with the USPS than $.48

I’m glad you don’t. Your posts, although “ranty” are a very true assessment about how things are and will continue to be.

It’s called personal accountability. Everyone wants to blame other people for all of their problems. Sometimes, it may be the case but I doubt that’s a large percentage of the people. What are YOU going to do about your situation? That’s the difference between the people at the bottom and the people in the middle.

Also, I don’t think we are comparing apples to apples. It looks like one is an envelope ($.48) and one is a package. Two completely different things.

WHAT? Are you kidding me? How about their flat rate boxes for $5? Seems to be doing them a lot of good. That would be a better comparison than the cost of a freakin $0.48 letter. FedEx and UPS rarely actually ships just a letter b/c the time they use to do that, they could be delivering a much more lucrative business package.

I promise if the USPS went away and there actually became a market for sending of letters, FedEx and UPS would find a way to make that profitable.

Envelope
No, I understand. It’s opportunity cost.

One of my MBA Marketing professors used to do the same thing. A job would come her way that wasn’t worth her time doing since she could do other things more lucrative with her time. So when someone came to her for a project she didn’t care to do, she’d quote them out the ass for something that should cost hardly anything to do. Sometimes they’d say ok, and she just made a shit ton for nothing. Most of the time they would say no, which means she now had the resources to do something that will make her more money.

FedEx knows they can’t compete with the USPS for an envelope delivery. So they don’t compete.

Why would they? They don’t have taxpayers to subsidize their overhead, so they can’t compete with the point of sale price of the USPS.

If the USPS went away, you bet they would ship the shit out of postcards and other such items.

Infastructure isn’t a one and done cost. Not to mention the other expenses the tax payer has to pick up.

the USPS has massive infrastructure and with a price increase to a dollar they would not only show profit they could start paying America back

It isn’t like the roads, powerlines or any of that other shit is any different. The USPS buildings, all of it. It is paid for with tax dollars. That doesn’t make it free, it doesn’t make it cheap.

There is zero power other than convenience, it still costs the same amount of $. Those things would all still be there if the government stopped “building” them. It would just be a pain in the ass to facilitate them, to the point where all the anarchists would likely just give the job back to the government. Because it would be a full time job for some people, ie: they would become the new government, lol.
