WE subsidize , Walmart , Mickey Ds and the like because they do not pay a livable wage .

We don’t subsidize these companies. We subsidize some of their employees.
Not when people get paid to do nothing that’s for sure.
How does less employment = off public dole??
Ya, we can make everyone pay taxes

Like i say I know all the so called conservatives arguments .
I just do not think it is fair that I have to subsidize employers work force
I don’t think it’s fair I had to subsidize Solyndra either. Life’s not fair.

Which means unemployement goes up.
Which means they will get unemployment assistance among other things…
The question is not will it cost some jobs ? How many ? What percentage ?
No one has a crystal ball, but doubling minimum wage will almost certainly increase unemployment. The # and % is anyones guess.

I don’t think it would be much , yes automation would become more attractive which eventually will happen any how
Micky Ds could maybe cut 30%. But there is a majic number wher they would lose business because people do not like to wait.
I would bet %10 across the board
It would have a residual effect up the economic scale also

10% of McDonalds employees = approx. 170,000 people world wide. That’s one company.
Who is forcing people to work at McDonalds? McD’s offers a wage to potential employees and they accept it and work there. If someone doesn’t like the pay they get at McD’s or Wal-Mart they can work up in the company for more pay or get a new higher paying job.

But Maiden, everyone needs to have enough money to buy a big screen tv, eat steak, and get a massage every week. They can not live that way on $7.50 an hour.

I agree it is not fair. But if you voted for Obama and other “spread the wealth” type politicians, you can’t complain. They are forcing you to subsidize, not Wal-Mart or McD’s.

What a novel concept…

What crazy, solid logic.
I mean, minimum wage jobs were created to support families?

A vicious cycle really.

You almost got it on the first part of your post . Other than personal pride , why would some one donate their free time to Walmart and Mickey Ds ? All they have to do is stay home and they will lose nothing . They get money , food and medical
Other than personal pride their is no financial incentive to work.
But you are trailing of on the standard (so called conservative) rhetoric about minimum wage
As far as some one not like working for these companies , it would be better if they refused and these companies would have no choice but to pay more . I think the easiest way to accomplish this would be a union
But Maiden, everyone needs to have enough money to buy a big screen tv, eat steak, and get a massage every week. They can not live that way on $7.50 an hour.

The scary thing is, is that you truly see this argument as this simple. I know you have to really boil things down to black or white to really be able to grasp them, DMaddox, but that’s more of a sign of your intellectual prowess than it is of the actual debate. Do you see no ray of light between keeping food on the table and the power on, and living high on the hog with tvs, steak, and massages?

What are they trying to raise the minimum wage to? Why not $20/hr or $40/hr? If $20 or $40 is too much could somebody please explain the reason to me?
really why would some one raise the minimum wage that high , I would think 2 people could live on $12 to $13 AN HOUR in the PHX market . Life would not be great but it is doable
