I came across this while reading Arthur Drechsler’s “Weightlifting Encyclopedia”. I really think the topic would make for a great article. I hope people chime in with their own methodologies and anecdotes.
In a nutshell, the point is that to arrive at optimal training conditions you should vary a single variable at a time to discover exactly what is responsible for change. If you radically switch into a subpar routine it might be that there was too much volume, or too much frequency, etc.
This definitely seems useful for strength training but it might be useful as well for hypertrophy.
I know the conventional thinking is just to ‘switch it up’ every 4-6 weeks, but wouldn’t training like this have some upsides?
Any thoughts?
