Military Deems Kids Too Fat!

Military deems kids too fat?

(LOL, irony!?!)

I hear bad things about Army BCT, any soldiers here that recently went through it?

I’ve read and heard that Drill Instructors play more of an “encouraging friend” role than actually being Drill Instructors. Please correct me if I’m wrong (I really hope I am).
This is what I’m hearing as well. I went through in 2005 and had Drills doing what you would traditionally expect Drills to do.

I haven’t seen it with my own eyes, but I hear that in BCT Soldiers get “time off” and even get to use cell phones. I’ve heard this from several different people.

???

I have a friend going in next month, I will have him let me know what is going on. And what the hell is “time off”?

Then you will get an undersized army and have to bring back the draft, then see this country turn on its own military.

I mean we are in a day and age where we are moving towards unmanned drones, how really physcially fit and emotional tough do you have to be to pilot a predator drone?

I think we need a small force with many capabilities , we also need a small physical force trained in the art of killing we do not need a zillion soldiers , we need to pay them better where soldiering could be a career where the best medical and retirement would be up guarenteed with no disabilities paid.
I agree with the benefits/pay part of you post, and think they need to re-structure pay and benefits. There’s no reason a cook should receive the same pay and benefits as say, an infantryman.

However, we can’t limit ourselves to a small force. If we do this, and then all of a sudden we need a large force, we’re screwed. Always prepare for the worst. In our case, the worst would probably be a Nuclear attack which we have covered (to a point). Right up there would also be a war with China. We can’t have a 200,000 man force and fight a war with China.

If they already get paid differently, please correct me if I’m wrong.
You should read the Constitution, Congress is not to have a standing army in peace time. Who has declared war against us?
See, this is a tough one. Warfare has certainly changed in the past 230 years. It’s no longer a “stand in a straight line and shoot” concept. You need constant training, and you can’t get that with reserves or militias. I always go along with whatever the constitution says, but I cannot in this regard. Can we reduce the size of our military? Probably. Can we eliminate our “standing army” altogether? Certainly not.
Ever heard of mercenaries?

What kind of world was the Constitution written for?
Well, rewrite it then. It’s still a fucking legit contract.

I hate to post hearsay, but again, from what I heard, Basic trainees get personal time in the evenings. They can call home on their cell phone, jerk it, do whatever (within certain parameters).

The military still uses height and weight charts to deam individuals overweight. at 5’10" 190lbs I was considered overweight, I was solid as a rock with visible abs but still because of my weight I was “overweight”. Until the military changes their standard for measuring whether or not a person is overweight and begins to look at LBM ratio to overall weight ratio anything they say in regards to weight goes in one ear and out the other in my opinion.
Now there are still some real lard asses in the military but they are usually the first to go.

And I’d be interested in hearing where it states that the army is lowering their standards to support a bigger force?? Last I heard, due to the fkd up economoy, kids have been joining the military in record numbers, due to low employment rates and lack of funding for school.

Where in the constitution does it specifically state that we cannot have an army unless we are at war?? Per Section 8 of the constitution congress has the power to:

To declare War, grant Letters of Marque and Reprisal, and make Rules concerning Captures on Land and Water;

To raise and support Armies, but no Appropriation of Money to that Use shall be for a longer Term than two Years;

To provide and maintain a Navy;

To make Rules for the Government and Regulation of the land and naval Forces;

To provide for calling forth the Militia to execute the Laws of the Union, suppress Insurrections and repel Invasions;

To provide for organizing, arming, and disciplining, the Militia, and for governing such Part of them as may be employed in the Service of the United States, reserving to the States respectively, the Appointment of the Officers, and the Authority of training the Militia according to the discipline prescribed by Congress;

We have a small physical force trained in the art of killing… it’s called the Marine Corps.

lmao You must be a marine

 1. I would be the first one to encourage kids to be fit, but mandatory phys ed has been around since the 1950’s and the obesity/fitness problem has not been solved. Government mandates almost never have the desired effect, so I doubt controlling salt content, removeing soda and candy from school vending machines, or any other imposed solution will.

 2. Remember the first Gulf war, 150,000 Iraqi troops killed or captured in 2 weeks with NO US casualties (except a few friendly fire). Superior technology, training and tactics won the day in the “Mother of all Battles” agains the ‘elite’, battle hardened (from decades of war with Iran) Republican Guard and the best technology the former Soviet Union was willing to supply the Iraqis. A tiered plan of mechanized infantry (tanks, amoured personnel carriers, etc.), backed by multiple tiers of air support (Apache Attack Helicopters, Warthogs, carrier based aircraft, and long range bombers) was unopposable. This required a well trained and equipped standing army. The Russians or Chinese would be a more formidable foe, but if we are prepared the end result of any all out conflict should be the same, although I doubt the Chinese would start a war with us, we are their largest customer, you don’t sh** where you eat!

They would be fine , we just need to scale down the size of the Military

I agree we need to war China. That way I’ll be ahead of all the fatties and join the 4th group when it gets reactivated.

Someone already mentioned the Marines. They dont have stress cards and bootcamp is still a bitch

I’m in the Air Force.

Never claimed to be from an ELITE ORGANIZATION…

But not ALL marines are trained in the “art” of war. They have specific career fields that are very hard core and are actually required to kill. But not all marines fall into this category… I’ve met many marines who tout the “trained killer” routine, then when you ask them what they do it’s something like “oh I work in HVAC, or Electrician”. We do have elite forces, but they come from ALL branches.

Navy Seals, Army Rangers, Air Force Combat Controllers, Marine Infantry, Delta Force, and many other career fields which truly are the ELITE. I’m sorry but a lot of regular marines couldn’t beat their way out of a paper bag and will never be asked to kill. I just don’t like when people classify “the marines” as the elite. Some marines fall into that category, not all IMO.

Knowing how to shoot is very different then being trained in the “art” of killing. Many marines tout this bullshit and never had to actually take a life. How can you be trained in something you’ve never done??

I’m not trying to bash the marines who have unfortunately had to take lives, merely pointing out that the one’s who have never deployed, who have never fired on another man and taken a life have no business comparing themselves with “trained killers”. You are not a trained killer if you are not a killer. Most people who have actually taken a life, don’t like to brag about it. But those that go thru 2 months of bootcamp and never see real combat like to throw these phrases out there like it’s something to be proud of. Killing another man is something that is done out of necessity, and isn’t something that people who have not done so should brag about or claim to know how to do unless you’ve actually done so.

Knowing how to kill somone/ knowing how to shoot is something easily learned, actually taking a life is not so easy, give credit where credit is due. Some marines have killed, a lot haven’t, many in other branches have, and many in other branches have had to do so repeatedly. Negating all the other branches and calling “the marines” the elite few discredits those in the special forces who truly are the elite and have dedicated their lives and spent YEARS training (not months) on how and when to kill. End of story.
