Mike Mentzer?

Was Mike Mentzer always an advocate of HIT training? When he was first starting out, did he use the traditional high volume approach of the day?

No, he wasn’t. Sometime after he won the IFBB Universe in 1977(the first to do so with a perfect score), he became enamoured of the H.I.T. principles of Arthur Jones and company. He went on to become one of, if not the most massive bodybuilders of the time. Regardless of what anyone may think of him, or his Heavy Duty training, he made his world stop and take another look at the accepted right way to train for size. Had it not been for his media driven spat with Arnold, he may very well have become Mr. O several times.

Agreed. Joe Wieder screwed him in the 1980 MR O. The man gave us a good gift,

God rest his soul.
