Migraines and Muscles

Todaaayyyyy:

First, before going into my lifts for this morning… I started a new medication: Amitriptyline HCL. Low dosage anti-depressant, 10mg a night to see if it will act as a preventive, but it will take a few weeks to kick in. I’m nervous about the side-effect, so I’m keeping an eye on how I feel. Last night, I felt drunk from the drowsiness (doc said it will cause that, so I did it after getting everything sorted). This morning, I felt mildly hung over: little off-balance, tad sluggish, etc. Good thing I gave myself an hour to wake up.

Now to the lifting:

Ride to gym

Power cleans: 10x95 8x105 6x115 4x125 2x145

Jerks: 2x5x125, 3x130, 3x135, 3x140

KB high pulls 3x10x50/each

Decline Bench: 10x85 8x95 6x105 4x115 2x125

Cable Bicep Curl 3x10x100

Lat Pull Down 5x100 5x110, 3x120 3x120 3x130

Pull overs 3x10x50
Feet elevated push-ups 3x10 (super sets)

10 minutes of ab work (planks, cable pulls, legs raises, supermans, etc.)

Ride home

Have karate in an hour too, woooooo

Sunday:

Day 2 of meds: supposed to make me drowsy but I hardly slept last night. The one thing that used to help mitigate my migraines, ice (cold), now makes them hurt more, and I had the AC on last night. No bueno for me.
Decided to go to the gym and work out before the current migraine takes me out for part of the day, but ended up having to help my dad move the smith machine onto the new owner’s trailer.

Ride bike to gym (finally)

Jumped rope, jumped over bags for speed sideways. Then jumped over more shit for length and height normally.

4x10 weighted jump squats, 50lbs

Jumps for distance to cover more than seven feet.

Ride bike home.

Tomorrow is a “day off,” but really I opened a karate school in my area so I’ll be teaching karate Mondays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. And I do most karate drills with the students (100 kicks, push ups, etc.)

40 years of migraines,

Assuming you have had a scan/xray of your back/neck and no problems found, it will be dietary and very likely hereditary).

So the ONLY way to beat it is to cut out all food with gluten, all dairy products, all meat, fish, shellfood and all additives like salt and pepper, all spices, all fried food and all booze of any description for a minimum of one week.

Sounds terrible, well it is, eat only white rice cooked in a rice cooker and banana’s for about a week (I lived virtually on rice and banana’s chicken and pork for 10 years - it can be done if the alternative is to give up living outside a darkened room and even morphine won’t shift a bad one).

After a week, try just one (and this the really hard part, just one different food. Best bet would be some nice white chicken breast (only a small portion) see how that goes for 2 days minimum. If no reaction try some white bread. stay away from all the “healthy” brown breads - no butter or substitute.

Then try some flora or similar spread on your bread (sunflower or olive oil based are the best)Next you can try potatoes and carrots sweet potatoes, etc stay totally away from all dark vegetables.

If you find this drastic change in your diet does not work

Have an allergy test.

But don’t stop lifting.

I already did the elimination diet, and I have been gluten free for almost three years now, plus I’m lactose intolerant.

I know the major foods that cause the migraines, such as wheat and coconut. But both my brother and my mom, and my maternal aunt get them; and, MRI is negative for anything, so doctors (headache specialists and neurologists) are leaning towards hereditary.

Day 4: Took a while to get myself out of being sluggish and drowsy; finally, around 12pm I was able to snap out of it. Problem is, I also have had a migraine that has been running up and down my CN VII on both sides of my face for a week or so now and IDK if i’m just tired from focusing on being able to function or from the meds.

Wednesday:

Was on my way home from work when I got rear ended… Twice. Taking the next few days off from heavy lifting to take care of myself. This kind of situation isn’t fun when the person is already healthy, but having the additional challenge of migraines is making it difficult to judge which symptom is of which.

Cleared to drive, but head is pounding neck and back are sore.

There’s still a bit that I wouldn’t trust myself doing right now, like cleans/jerks/snatches, but I feel fairly comfortable with squats and deads right now, so maybe I can get to cleans this weekend.
