Middle Eastern Racism

You definitely know that of which you speak.

Visit Kuwait, where indentured slavery is the national sport and imported labor works for pennies and lives in total squalor.

Visit U.A.E. (especially Dubai) Bahrain, Jordan, and Qatar. They are the same, they are just better at camouflaging their crap, the Kuwaitis don’t give a fuck what you think. At one time or the other, I have conducted training for each of these countries military’s and police. You want to know how a country really operates? Hang out with the ones carrying the guns.

I spoke to one of my homies about this topic cause he visited one of those areas, and he said that if people know that i am american than i would be treated well. But i would feel really uncomfortable seeing other africans being treated like crap in general.

im also wondering if there is a lot employment discrimination, and also discrimination when it comes to applying for higher education in schools. In those countries is it rare to see blacks/africans working in professional fields.

No disrespect to your friend, but, based on my own personal experience of 12 years in the Middle East and SWA, this is simply not true. You are the enemy, period. Its not just Africans who are treated like crap, its also the Filipinos, Indians, Pakis, Bangladeshis, Thai’s and whoever. You have to remember, these counties don’t survive without their ā€œimported laborā€, because they are too worthless and sorry to work. Of course, that doesn’t even take into account the ā€œclass systemā€ that exists within Islam itself.

Related, since we’re talking about living in the Middle East.

File this under Strange Economics.

Fascinating article about the prevalence of polygamy in Africa and the Arab world, and how it serves to destabilize these countries. I had not idea there were so many people living in plural marriages. The economics of it are just stunning.

This is one of the reasons why the Arab Spring erupted, why the jihadists of Boko Haram and Islamic State were able to conquer swathes of Nigeria, Iraq and Syria, and why the polygamous parts of Indonesia and Haiti are so turbulent. Polygamous societies are bloodier, more likely to invade their neighbours and more prone to collapse than others are. The taking of multiple wives is a feature of life in all of the 20 most unstable countries on the Fragile States Index compiled by the Fund for Peace, an NGO (see chart).

this sounds so terrible man. i had a small interest in moving to dubai, saudi arabia, oman, and egypt, but honestly at this point im taking in all the information you guys are giving me, and i also plan on visiting now and hopefully trying to find some africans and asians about their experiences living in these countries.

lol speaking of polygamy, literally my neighbor downstairs(somali dude) has two wives. He lives with one right now, the other lives in another part of our town. Reason he got a second wife was becauase they couldn’t have a kid together, so he went to kenya , found a spouse and brought her here. they have now been together for like the past like 3 years. I just found out he was still married to his other wife.

This I will never understand. Treating one woman well enough to have her stay with my sorry ass is work enough. Why in the world would you want more than one? The phrase ā€œwisdom of Solomonā€ always puzzled me. He had what, 300 wives and 700 concubines? Solomon was an idiot.

Actually, from what I understand it’s a major hassle. I know that rich Saudis used to take Russian women as a third or fourth wife, but for regular folks its not so great.

I knew an old construction foreman in Iran who married a slightly younger widow as his second wife - the problem was that you have to treat all wives equally, and by that I mean completely equally and his first wife was regularly taking him to sharia court.

Want to sleep two nights in a row with the younger one? You end up in court after the first one files a complaint. Want to buy something nice for the younger one? See you in court.

On the other hand, they’ve regulated prostit… I mean, one and two hour marriages down to the last detail. You can even sign nuptial agreements for marriages lasting a month or two - in exchange you buy a thick gold necklace or pledge to take your new wife to an all expenses paid foreign vacation…

Yes, the winner-takes-all approach when it comes to women ensures that you’ve got a lot of angry young men without any prospect of finding a mate - expect if there’s a war of conquest.

Jordan Peterson spoke of this at length.

Also, there are huge societal and psychological consequences that stem from a lack of everyday social interaction with women - Pakistani guys I’ve worked with were extremely dysfunctional, not to mention they’ve spent most of their waking hours watching porn non-stop, something that I didn’t think was possible.

This would make for a great sitcom. The comedy possibilities.

I’m a petroleum (drilling) engineer. I’ve been to most all of those countries, both in my professional capacity and in my earlier career as a US soldier. I’ve also been stationed in northeast Africa.

I am dark skinned for a non-African – half Apache and more-or-less half Scandinavian/Northern European (with some unknown Native American/Indian/maybe Asian thrown in there somewhere).

They were fine to me when I wore a military uniform, perhaps because I am very tall and carried a large rifle.

They were shitty to me when I wore a suit. They assumed I was ā€œMexicanā€ and would talk to my junior engineers (who were white or Chinese) who worked for me.

When they figured out I was not Mexican, but Apache (and also extremely competent), they treated me better. But I definitely did not get the benefit of the doubt. I had to prove I knew what people said I knew.

I’ve never actually experienced real discrimination until the Middle East, excepting perhaps Albuquerque police, who are assholes to everyone so it is hard to tell if they were singling me out or just pricks.

On TV, Etheopia looks like a cool place to visit.

Yes. It makes sense as the article said that if the top 10% of men can afford to have 3 or 4 wives, then the bottom 30% have none.

I was surprised at how prevalent it is in some of these countries. I had not idea that there were so many women living with it in 2018.

In terms of economics, this just blew my mind.

"…the most important enabler of the practice is not the unequal distribution of charm but the unequal distribution of wealth. Brideprice societies where wealth is unevenly distributed lend themselves to polygamy—which in turn inflates the price of brides, often to ruinous heights. In wretchedly poor Afghanistan, the cost of a wedding for a young man averages $12,000-$20,000.

By increasing the bride price, polygamy tends to raise the age at which young men get married; it takes a long time to save enough money. At the same time, it lowers the age at which women get married. All but the wealthiest families need to ā€œsellā€ their daughters before they can afford to ā€œbuyā€ wives for their sons; they also want the wives they shell out for to be young and fertile. In South Sudan ā€œa girl is called an old lady at age 20 because she cannot bear many children after that,ā€ a local man told Marc Sommers of Boston University and Stephanie Schwartz of Columbia University. A tribal elder spelled out the maths of the situation. ā€œWhen you have 10 daughters, each one will give you 30 cows, and they are all for [the father]. So then you have 300 cows.ā€ If a patriarch sells his daughters at 15 and does not let his sons marry until they are 30, he has 15 years to enjoy the returns on the assets he gained from brideprice. That’s a lot of milk.

What struck me on that map is that Mexico is less tolerant than both the U.S. and Canada… Really?

I knew that for some reason. I don’t know how that country survives. They are nomads mostly right? They don’t really make or import anything that I know of, but they do have slaves.

I would second this based on personal interaction with them.

All things political in Israel are heated. Heck, the dinner table is heated.

And we Jews came back from the Diaspora with a lot of bad habits from the countries we were in (and some good ones). So, yes, we absolutely will get into fights with each other.

The mandatory IDF service is very good at making us respect our fellow citizens, though.

That, and being surrounded by millions of people who want us dead.

So, sure, Ethiopian Jews have issues sometimes. So do Ashkenazim. So do Sephardim.

And a solid quarter of the Haredi in Jerusalem hate everyone (and each other), considering anyone who does not follow their particular rabbi a heretic.

But, no, overall, we get along. My daughter ALMOST married an Ethiopian Jewish man (didn’t happen because she came to the US to train as a doctor like her mother). They talk. So I still hold out hope. He’s a career soldier, a good man, and a good Jew.
