This is one for the metal fans.
I’ve traditionally been in Metallica’s corner on this one but Megadeth are doing a lot to win me over. Having been in Australia a couple years, Metallica has obviously not ventured over here. Megadeth is coming back in November for a second time in as many years.
The Metallica website lays dormant for weeks on end where Megadeth’s is updated almost daily.
I’m starting to lean towards Megadeth over Metallica. I’d have to say Mustaine is doing more than is expected by the fans where Metallica are doing a lot less. I’m just wondering whether anyone else agrees with this?

Back to the original topic…Megadeth FTW, they treat fans better, and Dave does sincerely love to be with fans.

Actually I think the OP isn’t so much pitting them against one another musically, it’s more what they do for the fans right?
Being a fellow Aussie I have to say Megadeth have treated us very well over the past few years. I think they’ve been here the past 3 years where Metallica has been here twice in the last decade.
I look forward to Metallica returning more than I do Megadeth, but Mustaine has been way better to Australian fans. Obviously they don’t make much money coming over here in comparison to Europe or the US but we are still fans that buy their stuff. Maybe a few downloads here and there too. LOL

I’m not an Aussie but I live on the Gold Coast. Megadeth has definetly treated us fans better than Metallica.

Very much looking forward to them coming to Melbourne. I’ve got Holy Wars blasting through the speakers right now.
I agree that Megadeth is doing more for its fans in current times than Metallica. Their MySpace page is updated quite frequently, as is their official site. They also tour more than Metallica.
The last time I saw Metallica was 2004, right after I moved to CO. They came with Godsmack and it was a great show, but that was almost 4 years ago. Since that time, Megadeth has been in the area I believe 3-5 times and I’ve seen them twice.
As for who I prefer to listen to, both are great but I’ll take Metallica’s body of work over Megadeth.
I am curious to hear what the new Metallica album will sound like now that they’ve finally parted ways with Bob Rock and have Rick Rubin producing the record.

Yeah, I caught a show in the same tour here in Texas. It was awesome.
I have to drop this quote:

A dark black past is my most valuable posession. Hindsight is always 20/20, but looking back it’s still a bit fuzzy. Speak of mutually assured destruction. Nice story, tell it to Reader’s Digest.

Every band has their shit songs. I think Sweating Bullets is hit or miss. Some seem to love it whilst others loathe it.
2x4 would have to be my most hated Metallica song. I remember thinking “What have you done?” after ‘Aint my Bitch’ and ‘2x4’ in my first listening of Load. The House that Jack built onwards is great though. Not the metal I love Metallica for but it is brilliant in it’s own right IMO.
I love megadeth too don’t get me wrong but they aren’t really an 80s thrash band like metallica, exodus, testament, slayer were.
by the way…Since when did people rave over iced earth??? I’ve never even seen anyone talk about them, as faras I knew i was there only fan rotfl.
Dave Mustaine is a huge bitch, he didn’t just fight wiht metallica, but with like guys from slayer, and like 565364 other bands. The guy’s a huge prick. No arguements.
yeah 2x4 was shitty, but I like about all of their music till saint anger, and even a few songs on saint anger. (unnamed feeling, saint anger, invisable kid).
Plus Metallica had Cliff. Therefore they automatically win.

Sorry dude. I find it hard to read anything you write as your avatar is attention grabbing.
Well, my son weighed in on this yesterday. (He’s about to turn 4 years old). In light of this thread I’ve filled my cd changer with Metallica and Megadeth rekindle the love for the albums that have been dormant on my part. Well, th black album was playing, and he and I were in the truck, and “The God That Failed” came on. He turned his head to the fron of the truck, and started to slowly bang his head to the baseline. When the song kicked in, he was in full headbang. I smiled and banged with him. As the song went on, he got wilder and was pretty much moshing in his seat. At the end, he was pumping his fists and roaring like James. When the song ended, he said “Whew! That was a good song, daddy!”. I chuckled, gave him a five, and said “Yes it was baby.” He’s already appreciating metal. That’s my boy!

I just watched the Video for “Sweating Bullets” on dailymotion. All I could think was, what is the deal with that ginger kid running around making faces?
Then I remembered the video for “One”. That’s some good shit.[/quote]
I grew up listening to (what I like to call) the “Big 5” metal bands (Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer, Anthrax, and Testament). Loved them all for different reasons. But my number 1 was always Metallica.
Killing is My Business, Peace Sells, Rust in Peace… all terrific albums. The musicianship was always above-and-beyond. But Dave’s voice has always driven me up the wall.
And, while it really isn’t a big deal in the grand-scheme, I always had a problem with Megadeth’s “revolving member” issue. The line up was constantly changing. That makes it really hard to like a band as a whole, particularly for younger fans.
Of course, I was really only interested in both of these bands up through the mid-90’s. I stopped listening to them as much around that time in favor of heavier stuff, but I’ll always have an interest in them to some degree.
