I’m stupid and I don’t know how to put a gif on here.
Just save it from the web as you would a photo, then post it here as if it were a photo.

Trying it.

I choose to believe that Metallica stopped making music after and justice for all. That way it doesnt ruin their good albums with all the crap they did after.

Not a single mention of And Justice for All…for shame guys, for shame. I remember walking into a defunct Sam Goody store when I was 11, hearing them blasting this album, not knowing what it was, asking the guy at the register what he was playing, slamming $26 bucks on the counter, ripping open the plastic, putting the cd into my sony diskman with no ESP for the first time, and blasting it until my ears rang.

I cherished this album, still have the cd without a single scratch on it.
Good songs, but needs to be remixed.

And anyone claiming an album other than Master of Puppets as their best is crazy for real.
My buddy and I bought MOP when it came out and we listened to it in his moms AMC Concord. When ‘Battery’ came on, we looked at each other and were like ‘HOLY SHIT’ and listened to the whole cassette from beginning to end in the car.

Ah memories…
I think I’m going to live vicariously through your nostalgia, and pretend that I didn’t grow up on Load and S&M before discovering their back catalogue. Although ‘No Leaf Clover’ is kinda catchy…

Songwriting wise - …And Justice for All is probably one of the best albums. We use it as a litmus test when writing new material.

“Its not bad… but its not ‘Justice’…”

“Shit, how is it then?”

“Hmmm… Painkiller.”

Re: Black Album tour - Meh… we can do most of the album in our sleep it seems. Pass.
Also, keep in mind that the Black Album was the first one with Mr. Motley Crue. Uh, I mean Bob Rock. Now you know what started the downhill slide…
What happened to Flemming Rassmussen?
He still produces. He was one of our options for the last record we did. The reason we chose not to go with him is because there was a flood or something in his original studio (where Metallica did their work) and he moved somewhere smaller with all different gear. Fuck that.
I dig working with those old dudes. I did a project with Murray Krugman (1st 7 BOC records) and he taught me a ton of shit.

This right here, my sophomore year at HS is when the black album came out and I remember all the wannabes with their pushead shirts.

I used to listen to MOP, Lightning, Kill 'EM All, and Justice before whatever sport I was playing in high school, kids would always ask what I was listening to and when I replied Metallica they would say it didn’t sound like them since what they where used to was the black album.

Needless to say we left after Metallica finished their set.

load was a great album me thinks.

i also started listening to st. anger a little while squatting, and this thing has so much rage…kinda grew on me.
Not disagreeing there are moments on those albums that shine. But overall and as a cohesive body of work together they don’t compare to the first 5 records and the last.
Everything post black album was not nearly as good. Personally, I think getting rid of Dave Mustane was a big mistake. That guy was incredible for metallica.

I was in high school when the Black Album came out. There was much harder stuff (their old stuff) that I listened to before sports/working out. Black Album was a chill-out, doing homework type of album. A lot of folks don’t remember the state of Hard Rock/Metal at the time, but it was the tail end of glam-rock, grunge hadn’t yet hit, Pop radio was getting flooded with C&C Music Factory, and Use Your Illusion I and II just wan’t as good as it was supposed to be.

Black Album sort of filled that gap.

Historically its strong reputation lies mostly with its’ commercial success rather than the content. For me anyways.

I had been listening to what was coming out of the Pacific Northwest since '89, and when the Black Album came out, I loved it based on the “new” sound Metallica brought because it related to bands like AIC and Soundgarden to me.

That was a great time in rock history.

Could you please elaborate on this, please?

Edit: Pretty please with a cherry on top?

Death Magnetic is a great album. LOL @ acting like metallica started releasing jazz songs after the black album that are not hardcore enough. some of their best stuff is the most recent. anyone who got a chance to hear songs like All Nightmare Long live will appreciate how awesome that stuff is.

Once AIC, Soundgarden, and STP hit the world everything changed. Hell, I was listening to country acts like Garth Brooks, Clint Black, Kentucky Headhunters, Charlie Daniels and Hank Williams Jr. to kind of get by before those bands hit. It’s interesting, your thoughts on the Black Album representing a glimpse as to what was headed our way. Never thought of it that way before.

Are you disagreeing what I said. Cause I think I speak for 99.9% of every metallica fan out there. Are you saying that albums after the black album were as good as previous, i think not. And nobody can argue the talent of dave mustane.

RV, Dude, Mustaine is a great guitar player, no argument there, BUT! he didn’t play on any Metallica albums other than a demo. He was booted before Kill’ Em All.
I am incorrect? Anyone?

You are correct.

His contribution was practically nil in Metallica. So, how can RV determine that he was “incredible for Metallica”?

Hungry, did you see the “best of” thread full of Rogue’s random statements? It’s a pretty enlightening glimpse into RV’s thought process.

I should like Death Magnetic but I don’t.

Maybe it’s the fac-ta that Hetfields-ah voice-ah get’s on my nerves-ah now-ah dontcha nowooo-OHH-OOO-ohhh ahhh…
