If with all the progress we’ve made for women doing and having a lot, why is this? It’s not a sarcastic question.

I like this bent of the thread much better. Thanks for getting it back on track.
I did Kundalini Yoga Teacher Training, and it’s all about the age of Aquarius, the Divine Feminine. I was the only dude with twenty five women in the training. Talk about estrogen overload.
So, I decided to fight back, sort of. It’s not really a fight, but shifting norms have a lot of guys questioning their role.
So, I’m doing this Men’s Group this Saturday at noon on Zoom. A virtual meeting, with video and all. I think it’s going to be cool.
I think we all need to sack up and be good citizens. The world is changing, as evidenced by @BrickHead’s graphic.
Do you think it could have something to do with the astronomically lower suicide rate?
Also women use more healthcare services (and definitely psych geared) than men, so that increase would need to be measured against A. Healthcare increases in the same time frame B. Other factors (like suicide) that can be associated with lower rates due to said anti depressants.
Also I’m probably talking out of my ass here, but I read once that women’s brains are more inclined to see the chemical imbalance that antidepressants can fix
I read somewhere that men and women attempt suicide at the same rate. Men are just more successful.
Not sure what that means, but I read it a long time ago before the interwebz, so it must be true.
I read that too. But the end result is the same: men succeed in suicide more.
We are over achievers.
Agree. There are a couple of posters here like that for me. Just…everything they say. Even though I may not agree with every particular of their views, I always appreciate the way they came to those views.
This is like asking “So, when was the last time you beat your wife, Mr. Ottawa?” There shouldn’t need to be a denial of something that should not be assumed in the first place.
This, exactly. I’m not a member of any group, I am someone who appreciates and exemplifies the ideology of feminism as I understand it. Where radical or extreme views are expressed, I certainly do speak up, as I have in here. I’m the first to admit that if I’m walking with my husband when a large dog approaches with a menacing aspect, I slide behind him. I would not be able to fight off a 70 pound dog. He could. There’s no shame in that for me, and I believe there’s pride in that for him.
But I know women who are very masculine, and who want to do things I’d never be willing to do. Why shouldn’t they be able to do those things? Why shouldn’t they be comfortably single or lesbian? That’s not to say they should be allowed to do things for which they are not qualified (e.g. get special fitness tests where these are given…I want all 300 pounds of @flappinit and his gear to be safe on the front line), just that they be allowed and encouraged to do the things they want and are able to do.
I was thinking on the way to work, as an aside, that I’ve had very masculine women come in for therapy intakes, and have never had one stick with me. I’m too femme, I guess.
There’s more, but unless my one no-shows, it’s back to work for me.
Great post.
I think I’m the poster boy for addiction being the guy next door. I’ll share my experience in my own thread, but the opiate epidemic is real.
I know you didn’t post to support me in particular, but I appreciate your perspicacity.
Spatial IQ doesn’t really mean much for STEM professions. The article doesn’t say what this best translates to, but it would probably apply more to trade and making stuff.
You also conveniently left out this from that article:
“The big question remains whether this is nature or nurture. On the one hand, boys, compared to girls, may have opportunities to cultivate this skill, but if we eventually see both a strong performance and parietal lobe structural difference in children, it would support a biological, not just environmental, effect,” Nopoulos added.
I saw that in there and I’m convinced it’s largely biological and an evolutionary adaptation.
That’s if they see a strong performance and parietal lobe structural difference in children. But this study didn’t conclude that
Yeah, for what it’s worth, my daughter wants to be a vet. I wholly support her. She struggles with math, but kills it in chem and physics. Not sure what that is about.
My boy, on the other hand, skates by doing nothing and rocks A’s in all of his classes.
Good points but one in four shows a whole lot of mental disorders.
We now see them as legitimate people with real complaints instead of “hysterical bitches”.
For real, my mother shot herself in the head, and that was my dad’s explanation. That attempt was unsuccessful, but about 6 years later she did finally end herself.
Guess what his explanation was that time?
This thread is getting quite dark, so I thought I’d inject a non-sequiter to lighten things up a bit
@SkyzykS This post is by no means meant to diminish what happened to your mom. I’ll remove it if you find it offensive
“Hysterical” may actually have scientific basis. Some historians speculate incidences of “hysteria” might be undiagnosed endometriosis, which has 100% to do with the “hyster” part of the term.
No, that’s fine.
There is a lot of interesting history about that which shows the shear lack of consideration for women’s mental health issues.
Paraphrasing, but until the mid '80’s if she wasn’t a witch, there was something wrong with her vagina. Or she might need smoke blown up her ass.
Not kidding.
Hysterical bitch.
Really sorry bro.
Bingo!
Really though, there’s no telling if anything would have been any different had the attitude of the time been that of today.
The thing is, I’ve seen this in my lifetime, and at 47 I’m not that old. This played out between 1978 and 1984.
Of course, I happen to be teaching The Crucible to my juniors right now.
Good thing we built that wall so we can keep our jobs.
Of course, when Trump got elected my colleagues were beside themselves. One was sure his daughter would now be raped wantonly in college since Trump liked to “grab them by the pussy.”
Hysteria, hysterical.
Men and women are different and thus can’t be equal. It’s mathematically tautological.
