Men Ages 18-25

To be fair, there were a lot of demonstrations against the war and the draft, over a period of years. Draft cards got burnt, hundreds of thousands of people took to the streets in protest against the war, a lot of heads got bashed, a lot of folks got gassed, herded into jails, and otherwise harrassed, and a few even got killed for protesting.

There are a lot of folks, even today, who will tell you those who protested were wrong and even shameful to do so. Some of them post here on this very list.

Some folks were serious enough to emigrate, to escape the draft. That actually takes more guts than a lot of people give credit for. Just doing a good job of running away from tyranny is a major committment. At any rate, they weren’t sitting around on their butts “accepting.”

Was it tyranny? Are you kidding? In most places the voting age was higher than the minimum age of conscription.

So anyway, there was a serious response, but of course the government didn’t topple. I hope that makes you feel a little better about who you’re hanging out with.

There is a significant difference. In the first two instances those that get the benefits actually earned them. In your case you earned nothing, yet still expect to get paid.

I have confidence that my version’s accurate. Your’s is about as ‘off’ as that psycho-drivel you call ‘writing’. If you quote Tennyson, please do it well.

I didn’t have time to look up the exact quote. I’m glad you did. The point still stands that I won’t lay down my life while some dipshit like you cheers from the sidelines.

I’d like your definition of ‘lazy-ass’. Me? Or a scumbag who is so broke and unmotivated that he proudly crows ‘I’m not above commiting a crime for money’ (Of course, I paraphrase here because a dipshit kid like you is not worth actually quoting!).

Most people aren’t above committing a crime for money. Not my fault I admit it. Unmotivated huh? Haha. Think what you will bud, you still don’t know me from a hole in the wall.

See, you can’t win in a situation like this because you’ve written a bunch of stuff about yourself. Stuff most people would be ashamed of, you brag about. I think this says all we need to know about you and what your ‘core values’ are, right?

I put myself out there, and I’m not making any apologies. Whatever I write is exactly how I feel and think. If you don’t like it, don’t read it.

My values are terrible, I know…being as I’m apparently one of those white trash motherfuckers you and your precious family are trying to run from.

And you call us liberals the elites? Ridiculous.

I’m lazy, I GUESS, because I run an agency of about 4,000 people that actually helps about 1,000,000 people across my state. The price I pay for having a couple of advanced degrees, huh? Lazy fuck me, right?

Blah blah blah, and I’ve got a twelve inch dick. You’re an internet hero who hides behind the moniker of “Hack”. You think I take you seriously? Ha.

You are, what? A laborer? How’s that working out for you? Fucking loser.

A laborer who is two weeks away from a bachelor’s in English. Yup, I’m a loser.

I’m still kind of unclear how you are qualified to discuss much of anything with me. I’m mean, my station in life vs. yours. Your pathetic writing…I guess it’s supposed to be philosophy. But you can blame that on youth in few years, I guess. Shit. You don’t even lift half what I do.

I can see where the rage comes from.

LOL. Arrogance at it’s best! Again, you’re an internet hero who has never proven anything beyond the fact that he’s a dimwitted elitist jerkoff who likes to talk shit on a lifting website.

Man, I don’t give a shit what you think of me or my writing. And if getting to your “Station in life” (fuckin laughable) is what I should be aiming for, then you win brother.

I’d rather slam my dick in a door and live in the streets than be a conceited bitchy pric like you.

Hey Hack, by the way…when did you serve in the military again? Oh that’s right, in your tirade you must have missed that one…funny how that shit works.
This works both ways. I’m pretty sure ‘FightingIrish’ is not your real name and you may or may not be a laborer who’s a few weeks away from a degree. That’s how it works, right? In any event, I am what I am. Believe it or not. Don’t care.

I’ve not been in the military. I did have a full-ride football scholarship. So the choice was pretty easy. What about you? Did you get offered a great laborer position right out of highschool that you coulnd’t pass up?

And yeah, you liberal fuckheads are elitist. Most of your posts indicate that you are just that. 'Cept with you it’s funny because of your childish/drunken musings and that uni-brow thing you got going for you.

See, you deride anyone who believes in God and doesn’t live on the East Coast. Then you bristle at any suggestion that you are not a working man, for the people. Well, those gun-toting religious types that live in ‘fly-over’ country are laborers who work hard too. Only they have families that they are working to provide for. An idea you have made it known you find, well, less than attractive.

So while you glamorize YOUR station in life by writing this idiot-prose, you ridicule others and what they’ve done with their lives. Of course, you don’t see that you are the one who is being the hypocrite here. You are worse then those that you spend so much time making fun of.

Worse because you are a kid who thinks he has all the answers and knows what makes the world go 'round. You don’t. Along with that, how much of the world outside that shithole Jersey have you seen, kid? Not much, me thinks.

So while you call me an internet-tough guy (strangely, by constantly mentioning my ‘dick’), read some of your stuff. Your a dumb wanna-be, tough guy punk who thinks he’s got life figured out. Everyone around you knows you don’t know shit. You’ve think yourself some kind of celebrity. A celebrity in your own mind where you feel the need to narrate your own life.

I know your type. Your a pussy, scared of everyone so you react with anger and a bunch of confused ranting. Don’t worry. Give it a few years. It’ll pass.

You’ll probably say that this is a context-driven quote or ‘satire,’ but I cannot get behind anyone poking fun at anyone else for holding an honest job. There’s no shame in being a laborer.
You’re right. I’ll drop that going forward. I just have no respect for this little turd so I criticize anything he does and everything he’s about.

Anyone who’s spent anytime on the East Coast, inside the neighborhood bars, knows this guy. The hot-headed kid, started working out because he’s always been the little guy. But he’s ‘tough’, right? In highschool no one would mess with him becasue he’s ‘crazy’, right? You know the guy. He’s a stereotype. A fool.

As for laborers. Thinking about it, I don’t know why I wrote and have written shit critical of people in that ‘line of work’. My dad worked in a factory for 40 years. Best role model a man could have. I busted my ass summers in highschool and college doing landscaping. And loved it.

But, you’re right. No sense insulting a lot of good people because one dumb, little shit thinks he’s a star.

As opposed to your calm and composed observations?

As an aside: Irish, that’s outstanding! Congrats!

Whew. That was a whole lot of whiny bullshit to go through to get to that point.

Good job trying to hide it in the middle of a long bitch rant though.

So, pretty much…enough said.

It is fuckin pathetic that I bother you this much. It’s the internet you fucktard.

Why don’t you go to the East Wing of your mansion and have a drink or something to clear your head?

Hack, we are so glad you finally found an oulet for your frustration in life on this post. We wish you well in your pursuit of happiness and a rich well meaning life. Now take your lithium, and treat everyone at work like a member of your own family.

Yes, britian did have a draft, but most of their soldiers were proffessional soldiers. They also hired mercenaries. They also stopped American merchant ships and press-ganged American civilian sailors into serving aboard british warships

Even post-1815? I didn’t know.
No, that’s wrong, Britain was the lone European army not to move toward the model of a large conscript army and massive trained reserves as the 19th century drew to a close. Britain didn’t introduce a draft until nearly midway through the First World War, I think shortly after the Battle of the Somme, although it might have been shortly before.

Either way, the comparison to the U.S. has a lot of holes in it, namely that the British ruled indirectly in many places, and had plenty of native soldiers to fight for them - which isn’t working out so well for us in Iraq or Afghanistan these days.

Interesting article written by a much younger Jim Webb, 26 years ago, calling for the reinstatement of the draft. Very much a product of its time, in the references to the broken post-Vietnam Army, but the third page, in particular, has a lot to say that still applies today. I agree with Webb that a draft, if there is one, is a civic duty, not “slavery.”

Hack doesn’t need cops. He’s got armed guards with AK-47’s patrolling the perimeter of his estate.

That’s probably why he doesn’t respect regular people too much.

Hey, wait a minute! Since its wrong to be selfish, why should you guys want to keep your lives for yourselves? Since service to others is noble, shouldn’t you gents WANT to serve the needs of your fellow Americans?

I mean, really, don’t you care about the grocer in Salt Lake City, or the auto mechanic near Boston, or the kids in an orphanage near Philadelphia? If you are immoral enough to choose your own happiness over theirs, then the government has the right to force you to voluntarily defend all the people.

That’s one reason the draft was created — to force you to choose to be moral, you selfish brutes you!!!

Headhunter

BTW: I’m a teacher in New Jersey and drive a Ford Focus! I don’t need none of you white trash protectin’ me! We are men here in Jersey, right, Harris?
Right, bro?

It could only be ironic that the guy who calls you a “dumb little shit who thinks he’s a star” once claimed to be “a proven winner both on the field and in life”.

Congrats on the degree.

Headhunter, we never call it, “New Jersey”. It’s just, “Jersey”. And never “Joisy”, because that’s how the motherfuckers from New York say it.

Just words of advice

For what its worth, the U.S. Supreme Court has determined Selective Service is constitutional.

With regard to the issue of whether a draft imposes involuntary servitude in violation of the 13th Amendment of the constitution, the court stated (albeit obtusely)"

“Finally, as we are unable to conceive upon what theory the exaction by government from the citizen of the performance of his supreme and noble duty of contributing to the defense of the rights and honor of the nation as the result of a war declared by the great representative body of the people can be said to be the imposition of involuntary servitude in violation of the prohibitions of the Thirteenth Amendment, we are constrained to the conclusion that the contention to that effect is refuted by its mere statement.”
Yes, well right there’s an opening for further litigation you could drive a troop transport through. Mostly the great representative body of the people (if you can call it that with a straight face) never actually bothers to declare war anymore. Iraq is a case in point.
