IPF already changed weight classes, it sucks. My weight class went from 165-181 (least I’ve weighed since 8th grade is 160) to 158-184. So I’ll probably never make it to 158 and be worth anything, and above 184 is SHW. So now I have all the 198 and lower women, and all the women who had trouble cutting to 148, lumped into my new huge class. Oh well.
I wouldn’t be so sure about the weight thing.
Without knowing your particulars I would tell you to get in touch with Priscilla Ribic and ask her for advice on weight cutting as she is an absolute master and used to get my wife from low 160’s to 148 with very little strength loss.
My wife walks around about 155 and would gain weight as her cycle progressed (like most people) and she always made it.
The only thing was she was a borderline special needs person from all the carb depletion in the last couple days leading to the meet, but it’s nothing eating a RAW baked potato can’t fix.

Oh, I’m excellent at cutting, but I prefer to not cut more than 8-10lbs. I’m a 181 right now, so I’d have to cut real weight and then cut water on top of it. And I’d be cutting to get into Priscilla’s class, anyway!

Does anyone actually know why they did this? The new classes are different for men and women. They don’t synch with olympic lifting either. I just don’t get why they picked the values they did.

They’re the ipf, they think they’re special .
From my understanding it’s to establish new records because of the drug issue . Like these guys are drug free anyway. That and streamlining weight classes might lead to the olympics, which is their huge delusion .
I’ve heard of the get in the olympics thing for thirty years now . It’s not going to happen .

That sucks and is unnecessary bs IMO . Typical ipf crap . And frustrating . To me this is to just stand out from everyone else . Now no one else can claim world best unless they use the same weight class. Pure and utter nonsense .
Which is why I said screw these guys years ago . It all goes back to the Olympic thing. The t shirt issue . Other silly rules. No music , all thar stuff . The bogus drug free claim . Remember drug tested is not drug free .
I was usapl involved for years . At first their was the uspf , The only fed. Then the break offs started to the apf and adfpa . I lifted adfpa, current usapl , since it had a strong local presence and a college kid doesn’t have a lot of cash for travel expenses .
When I was working I looked around and went to some local meets, and I liked how they ran things. Then I decided the old , stuffy rules just weren’t worth my time . I came to know Louie simmons and that was the end of usapl love for me .

I get it: you don’t like the IPF.
Now that we’ve coverd that, does anyone who is actually invovled with the federation know why they made such odd choices for the new classes?

I told you. Do you actually lift and compete? And for how long ?
Do I lift and compete: Yes.
How long have I competed: 3 years
The ipf wants to squeeze out other Feds and desperately wants to get accepted in the olympics . What happens to plusa 's top 100 list?powerlifting watch ? It stinks for foreign lifters who have no other choice , but US lifters do . And many won’t bow down to the ipf .
Al Siegel an old friend and ipf international referee was warned against judging in another meet. There are other incidents like this .
The iwf changed weight classes because records were stagnant for years and with stricter drug testing they weren’t being challenged . Yay! New fake records!
Which is stupid because very few people care about weight sports . They will never compete against established sports in fan interest . This is a niche sport with small amounts of fans.
PSU football , Texas high state championship football , Friday night Texas football regular season , pa state wrestling championships , girls local high school playoffs . What do they have on common?
They outdraw any powerlifting meet by two / three times to 100 times . Making Anti lifter changes is stupid because powerlifting will never draw the fans that go see the district 11 girls basketball playoffs .

Who are you talking to here? Is it to me? If so, still didn’t answer my question. And once again: I get it, you don’t like the IPF.

His first line and into the first paragraph answer your question. They want to be the recognized top organization that claims to be the most legit so they can get rid of other federations to make powerlifting into an olympic sport one day through the IPF. I think that is what he is saying.

Not really no.
Here it is again:

I’m looking to find out how they actually decided on the values that they chose. Not guesses as to what their motivation was.
Oboile, I think they are trying to decrease the number of classes, and the groupings are based on analysis of the actual number of lifters at various weights in the international meets.
Feel sorry for the original poster. He had a really shitty first meet. Don’t give up, either do USAPL again or find another fed, but at least complete one meet, now that you know the intricacies.
The real reason for the IPF/USAPL weight class changes: it was an order from the CIA to confuse all of the drug free powerlifters. looks like it worked.
