Dear Dr Darden
Is the Medx leg press good for quad growth?
Thank you.
Yes, it’s one of the best leg pass machines. And it definitely works your quadriceps, as well as your hamstrings and gluteals.
Thank you Dr.
Is it better on the spine than the duo-squat?
Just chipping in my thoughts: duo squat is a great machine, especially if you know how to use it (i.e. don’t try low reps and high weight - you will probably notice issues with your neck support pads; a lot of people complained) - go for high reps (as Jones mostly trained his students) and utilize some of techniques like 3-min thigh program from “The Nautilus Advanced BB book”. Duo leg press is easy on your neck/shoulders, but less effective, imo. Compound leg was great, but too much friction. MedX leg press is a very good one (some guys prefer plate-loaded MedX avenger), but it takes a lot of space. Super-slow leg press is awesome machine, one (if not) the best machine I tried in my life. I sold my duo-squat, bought SS Leg press and SquatMax and it’s one of the best decisions I made in terms of exercise equipment.
This is a nice machine. 40 years ago, we would get 2 strong boards laid parallel off the side of a bench. Leave enough room for weights to go between the boards. Get a dip belt loaded with enough weight, walk backwards up the boards inclined angle. Start squatting. Hands on knees can give forced reps. The declined board angle kills the quads
