Measuring Waist/How Many Calories?

Need a ballpark range help here?

Bulking up right now and it’s fine because I have a massive appetite. Anyways, how do I correctly measure my waist? I have been measuring above the belly button below the ribs. Am I supposed to measure straight across the belly button? (this is to just monitor fat)

Also, for gains in two weeks time and 7lbs of mass (123lbs to 130ishlbs in 2 weeks) (wtf?!) My bench has gone from 130x4 to 140x3 with a spotter, or if I don’t have a spotter, 130x6. Curls from 25x6 to 30x6 and dumbbell bench press from 40x8 struggling extremely hard to 40x12 struggling on last 2 reps.

Also how many calories would you say I’ve taken in so far for today just so I know how much I am usually taking in, I eat at college cafeteria

breakfast
Plate of scrambled eggs (idk how many eggs, its self serve from a buffet)
2 sausage patties
One ladle of omelet mix, 1oz ham

Lunch
7oz ground turkey
2cups reg. yogurt with granola
2 pbj sandwhiches on some crappy 40 calories whole wheat bread
1 pbj on a “low-carb” wrap

I think you should find a new spotter.

Why would someone one step away from “blade of grass” skinny be worried about their waist measurement?

just eat everything, dont bother about how many calories eat more, you weigh as much as my little sister

i will first answer your waist question:

technically, a waist measurement is taken at the belly botton, straight across. above is too high, although for some there might not be much difference. personally, i dont wear my pants there, and i dont think of that as my waist.

i wear my pants on my pelvic bone, so if the situation was a friend of mine or something like that and they asked what size waist i was, id go off that, because theyd usually be trying to borrow my jeans or something…now back to bodybuilding…the measurement is at the belly botton.

your second question i cant give an accurate answer to, although i can give one that i think is correct:

youre doing better, which is good to see, 7lbs in 2 weeks is great. you could probably still eat more. like 3 sausage patties instead of two.

now, i do have a question for you, whats your routine look like? you mentioned progress in two chest exercises and a biceps…whats going on with the legs and back dude?

not trying to pick on you, just taht you didnt mention them, so post up your basic routine, and perhaps we can give you some help on structuring it so that youve got a well balanced workout along with your new appetite.

and ill echo what X said, you really dont need to worry about that waist measurement. youre trying to get out of that thought of being fat and all, do what you can to leave it alone. at 123, or even 130lbs, youre nowhere near fat, just trust us. you can also trust us when we tell you, that at some point, if you keep eating and growing, youre probably going to have a little fat here and there, but the buldging muscles that you eventually have will make it all worth it. good luck, keep eating!

Also, you are gaining weight because YOU WERE STARVING YOURSELF BEFORE. Your body is trying to normalize itself. I would HOPE you would gain weight quickly by simply starting to EAT FOOD on a regular basis. That is what happens to people who are locked in basements without food for long periods of time as well.

I think the 1oz of ham put you over the top. You better back off a little before you blow up!

Alright, besides all that was mentioned already, and it was all correct, how is that you are eating from a “college cafeteria” have no idea how many calories you are eating, but somehow know, down to the OUNCE, how much food you eating???
If your calculations are correct, take the OUNCES of food you claim to be eating, and figure out your calories. You?re in college, take some initiative.

I’m not in college - I’m in boarding school.

I know it is an oz just by looking at how much she puts in the omelet. She takes like a little bit more than a pinch full and sprinkles it in the omelet (the lunch lady)

I’m not “fat” but just to prove to others, I asked some of my friends what they thought I weighed and almost all of the answers were in the 150lb range. THus I don’t look like I weigh 123lbs. I weigh 132lbs now by the way…I feel like it is all fat too

especially with all that cake and icecream I ate two days ago, I seriously think 8 out of this 10lbs is fat. 2lbs of muscle is not worth 8lbs of fat, hopefully I start looking leaner as I gain weight because currently my stomach is looking extremely extra flabby whereas before it was just flat and saggy looking.

Could anyone throw a guestimate by looking at what I posted how many calories that is? I guestimated and came out with 3200 so far. Isn’t that too much too quickly, leading to fat gain? I tried to slowly go up in my calories but eventually my appetite got the best of me and my calorie intake has been like 5,000+ some days, especially on some days where it was like 5,000 calories of shit.

I want to gain muscle and get bigger but I don’t want to become more fatter than muscular in this process.

It also doesn’t help when people keep talking about how they are going on diets and losing weight and I just say “yeah I’m gaining weight at an alarming rate”.

You really do need professional help.

trade in sugar/what ever for some kind of hole food and enjoy your bulk dont worry about getting fat

Your friends are idiots and you need to see a doctor of the mind.

If you’ve gained 7lbs in 2 weeks it’s definitely fat. It’s probably best to start cutting immediately. I’d say your sample day is probably about 1500 calories: enough for about 3-4 days. I would suggest eating no more than 200-400 calories a day. Drink water if you feel hungry. Also, substitute some meals with gulping air.

As for your bench, good job. 140x3 is no small feat. If that’s done with one spotter, maybe you should see what you can get up with two spotters. Are those curls spotted? You should max on those with a spotter as well. Here’s a good example of what to do:

Even though the kid looks scrawny, look at the weights he’s moving and the awe the chick behind him is in. He’s got two spotters. Do you?

Remember, if you feel fat, you are fat. If people think you weigh 150lbs, it’s cause you’re so cut. Never sacrifice that by bulking too much. If you lose sight of your abs, everyone will hate you.

You’re lucky if you even got 2000 calories in what you posted…and that’s assuming that you had half a dozen eggs.

What does your lifting program look like? Exercises, sets, reps, frequency, etc. Please post and then we can make some suggestions.

If you are eating clean, I can’t see someone that is 132lbs putting down 5000 calories in a day. Just ask one of the big guys here, it is like a full time job eating that many clean calories in a day.

I just read some of your prior posts, questions, etc. You have been called out a few times by guys on this board. Get serious, and stop posting dumb crap like this. Your wasting valuable space on this board.

you have a diseased brain…

people die every year from anorexia nervosa, I hope you’re not one of them…

seek professional help before it’s too late…

best of luck to you…

anorexia nervosa  /nɜrˈvoʊsə/

an eating disorder primarily affecting adolescent girls and young women, characterized by pathological fear of becoming fat, distorted body image, excessive dieting, and emaciation.

See I haven’t put down 5,000 since that day where I binged on like half a cake, brownies and frozen yogurt.

Yesterday I probably got in 3500-4000 and today I had

Plate scrambled Eggs
Ham Omelet
2 Sausage Patties

2 pbj sandwhiches on light bread
pbj on low carb wrap
2 turkey burgers (Assuming 7oz)
broccoli
2 cups of yogurt w/ granola

20oz gatorade and 2 scoops of whey

Snicker’s Marathon Protein bar

Calorie count? I have no idea on calories I put in those sandwhiches with peanutbutter and such, or the yogurt and granola.

I have put fat on though, before my abs were just flat and now they are blubbery.

Would it be bad if I cut back on the calories and only consumed 2,600ish? Meaning I would go back down but this would slow my weight gain thus making most of the weight gain muscle, right?

Plus no one here knows anything about anything more than I do. For Christ’s sake I asked the weight training trainer who is probably 300+lbs, fat, but also extremely ripped (benches 400), and was shoulder shrugging like 250 today in the gym.

I asked him about bulking up and my weight fluctuation of almost 10lbs in 2 weeks and he said it was ALL muscle and I said…well it cant be because my stomach is getting much “softer” and he was like dont worry about it. He never heard of “cutting up” either.

I had started to believe that he is just trolling because he avoids actually responding to any posts directed at his issues.

Instead, it will be only a couple of days before he makes another post about how fat he is and how all of his friends think he is HUGE at 135lbs so maybe it is time to diet. If there weren’t SO MANY of these guys popping up lately, it would be easier to pick out the pranksters.

I’m starting to believe so as well. The above posts by him seem like he’s back where he’s started mentally.

This is getting tiring. Shut up for a couple month, eat a lot, gain WEIGHT, forget about muscle, you just need some weight, ever think theres something besides muscle and visible fat in your body?

FRIEDRICE:

you seriously make me pretty uneasy with some of the things you say. and where your head is at, with assholes telling you that 1400 cals would be enough for 3-4 days, it makes me cringe because i think that you might take what they are saying seriously. honestly man, your head isnt right, and you NEED (please notice the fundamental difference between needs and wants here) counselling.

another thing, i really think that in each of your posts here you need to preface the damn things with giving your background info- such as anorexia nervosa, and the fact that at 132lbs you think youre fat, etc., etc. plenty of us would do everything that we could to help you, unfortunately, thats not much trapped behind plastic, pixels, and power cords. then theres going to be the jerk offs who feel so inferior in their own lives, that it makes them feel like they actually have a big dick to fuck with someone’s head.

you should be able to read peoples responses and tell who is giving you sound advice.

i do agree with another poster in that i dont think you actually came close to 5000 cals. you may think you did, just as many of us think were eating x amount of cals. dude, im 210lbs, and trying to go up. im 5’9". my friends and family are always talking about how much i eat. its a joke that if im “grumpy” that means i need to eat. they make jokes about how its my “feeding time”…theres always comments about “youre eating AGAIN?”…etc, etc…and dude, its not easy for me to slam 5000 cals. i do it, but its not easy. a while ago i figured i must have been taking in a little over 4000 cals, and i was getting so pissed off that i wasnt gaining, then i actually logged my meals for a few days, and i was barely averaging like 3000 at that time. most people think theyre eating a hell of a lot more than they actually are.

good luck, keep your head and your fork up.
