ME Bench Videos

Hi all-

I have attached a video of some maximum effort bench press work I did with a Titan Fury this Sunday. I have never watched myself bench press; it appears that I am a bit uneven coming up. This is likely a residual imbalance from previous rotator cuff issues. I am also relatively new to shirt work (I have only done 1 meet with a shirt) and still haven’t gotten used to tucking my elbows. Any advice/comments would be appreciated.

First off, really strong. What’s that, 220kg? How much do you weigh??

You position on the bench is WAY off. You’re lying across it almost. Look at where you crotch is, it’s almost off to the side. Your feet aren’t even either. This could be contributing to the uneven extenstion.

Since the fury has a higher groove than other shirts, tucking your elbows isn’t as important as with F6’s or Rage X’s. Or Multi-Ply gangsta shirts.

You’re benching more than 99.9% of people on this site (including me :p), so be careful who you listen to. Alot of people will just give generic copy and paste advice from what they read on Elite without actually giving anything specific or worthwhile.

I weigh a tad over 275 right now. The first set is 490, the 2nd set is 500. I agree that the feet being uneven could likely be causing the uneven extension. I am still getting used to the USAPL regulations regarding keeping your feet flat on the ground during the lift.

It’ll be nice when I can do that. What do you bench raw?

I think my best competition raw bench (with a pause) was 466. My best gym bench (touch and go) is 500.

Doesn’t sound like you’re getting a whole lot out of the shirt. Have you thought about a smaller shirt?

Yeah, my shirt is definitely too big, but right now I’m just concentrating on learning a loose one first. When I get a bit more competitive on a national level, I’ll get a better one.

Of course I can’t tell for sure, but it seems that you either have really long arms or you are taking a very narrow grip for shirt work. Are your index fingers on the rings?

i agree with hanley in that your position is way off, but mainly i just wanted to point out how funny the change in music from that death metal song to some soul pop was!
