MattyXL's Tears in a Bucket Log

Thanks Canada and Cav Im sure youll get it and then the big 500 will be your goal. Nikki I thought of you with the three attempts, I think 2 attempts is good and then maybe a drop to 430 was in order.

No training today, I am a bit shot. I seem to have strained my right tri and bicep doing the prowler pulls. Also I play softball early sunday mornings and did not properly warm up with that and my arm was throbbing and felt like I had ginger ale inside of me. Also I have plantar fascitus and my heel is killing me, went to take a piss this morning at about 3am and fell because I could put no weight on it.

So overall Im a little bit tired and have caught a case of the ghey. So tomorrow I will do my usual and would like to follow a training schedule of Tues, Wed, Fri and Saturday. I have found friday early evening is a great day to train at my commercial gym…its empty which is ideal. Tuesdays is a good bench day cuz everybody benched on monday. So we will see how it goes.

^ Now see that is why we are in the over 35, when we were in our 20’s we would be hitting the gym again this morning. I REALLY, REALLY did not want to get up this morning. I have the alarm set for 4:15 and sure as shit I wake up at 4:05 cause I have to piss. I can never get that 10 minutes back. Plus I am still sore from Saturdays prowler, yoke and farmers carry.

Are you going to have to take your foam roller to the softball field?

Dude I have been contemplating bringing my foam roller and bands down to the game, it may be the right move but the absolute verbal beating I will take from my friends will be relentless, but fuck it IM BRINGING IT! This reminds me of the time that I bought a fanny pack (a nice north face one, I thought looked pretty awesome) holy shit you would of thought I showed up with high heels and a skirt the way I got destroyed for it. This fanny pack made sense I dont have pockets in some of my shorts, I could keep all my belongings on my person, practicality is wasted on the youth I SAY!

^ Hahahahahaha I wouldnt care about the verbal abuse for the foam roller, if they are younger I just pull out the wait till you get my age. When I was working trauma ER we of course wear scrubs. There is no pockets in those damn things. So all us guys wore fanny packs to keep phone, wallet, IV kits etc. Hell if I dont foam roll 5 or 6 days a week I am a grumpy bear.

EXACTLY! fuck that im bringing all my bands, foam rollers, sleeves and my fanny pack!

Saw this little note on the way home from work last friday, Ashley’s gonna be pissed!

So that tire you were flipping weighed 300 pounds? Could you go heavier or is that a good one to start and maintain on?

I could definitely go heavier but its my first time and it was done after sledge hammers. Once it starts getting warmer out Im gonna hit it heavier and more often.

Two things left I want to get for my “cardio” is a tire and duffel bag. I just dont know what weight range to go with the tire. I have a pretty long driveway and I dont want to get something so heavy I can flip it a few times and that is it.

Agreed, thats the key, a weight where you can flip it 10 - 15 times to me is ideal, I think I flipped it around that many times in the vid, I dont see the point of flipping a 500lb tire if you can only flip it a few times, I would think the main result is conditioning with strength being a byproduct of it.

Nobody in my neighborhood will know the difference between the 3 and 5 hundred pound. I am looking for conditioning also, like you said good number of flips and putting it in the “stations” I set up. Push the prowler, carry the yoke, flip the tire and then carry the farmers. Total body exertion and workout from hell.

So that being said, putting it in a rotation like I do that size tire would be good to buy in your opinion. To me you can always just add time to the mix or more flips.

LMAO gotta love NY man.

That means nothing over here, people can easily bench everyday… yep yep, I seen it =)

Oh and sowwy about your arm from the prowler. It was just a new thing, the body’ll get used to it.

I have been debating what size tires to go see about getting lately myself. I figured if I get a couple of 200-250 lb’ers, I could get used to it on 1, then bolt them together for easier gripping, and a bigger tire. Also looking at getting my son a tire to flip, once its warm out regularly, and he sees me out doing it, he’ll want to as well. I will eventually work on getting a vid of both of us ‘racing’ our tire flips down the drive/street or something.

I guess the size of tire really depends on what the place has available that you go to, but do wanna see about the 2 tire thing.

Ogre - I have been watching some vids on the tire flip thing. Room is a concern for me, I saw one vid where the guy was alternating which side he flipped the tire to, basically going on the opposite side to flip once it fell over, again I have read some blogs where it is said that if you can flip a tire between 10 and 20 times its too light…I dont know I think I flipped that tire around 10 - 12 times and I was wrecked. Then again Im not the epitome of a well conditioned machine.

DJ with the yoke station, prowler station, farmer walk station and a tire flip station…that sounds hellish to me…in a good way

NOTES…got through it but todays training was worth its weight in a used load rag. Tried to pushup 315 too quick and tweaked my elbow and left shoulder, tris still bothering and my allergies are acting up…woe is me.

Despite your take on it, that is some strong pressing.
Also, much respect to anyone who can pound out chins. My fat ass is lucky to get 2.

Hope the shoulder untweaks quickly.

Thanks Strick, I made it a point to be able to bang out chins as all to often I hear people say the bigger guys dont do pullups and chins, I do em almost every session. I see alot of people do em as a warmup I like to incorporate them within my session.

Not true at my gym. In particular, one big guy whose arms are thicker than my legs. He can bench half a Buick with ease, but has a gut which makes chins miserable. Nonetheless, he pulls a bench over to the chin bar and steps on it each rep. He also uses the Nautilus machine which assists chins/dips. He once told me he does “chinup stuff”, which is his term when you can’t do chins cleanly. I do admire his tenacity.

I admire his resolve as well Cav…I have exercised with a lot of friends who are trying to get stronger or whatever, I always tell them and believe that every session you should try to do one pullup, chinup whatever even if you get a quarter of the way up, just keep on trucking.
