now that is a strange post
replied to the wrong dude
By the sheer fact that you have an opinion on this that you feel is not PC and you utilize the term “fleeting”, wouldn’t that be evidence of the fact that it’s not 100% socially acceptable for someone to do this very thing? At the very least it would only be 99% acceptable, but I’m willing to believe far less people find it acceptable.
In truth, I imagine there may be similar numbers of people opposing steroids in sports as there are opposing usage for transgendered people.
But it is socially acceptable. Bruce jenner was awarded woman of the year. If thats not socually accepted then what is. We unfortunately live in a progressive liberal society that labels people with views that oppose the liberal mindset as bigoted. The fact is, if I make my views well known I will be a social out cast, It even goes as far as affecting my ability to have a career. I just think its hypocritical, that’s all.
To some, yes, but others don’t accept it. I mean, from this topic alone I will infer that you do not accept it, and I imagine you are a part of society. There are certainly many people who share your views too, much like how there are many who are unconcerned about steroid usage in sports.
Just a casual stroll on facebook will reveal this. Hell, read the comments on the article. There are a LOT of people who are not accepting this.
And that certainly didn’t bring any flack. Everyone, everywhere was on board and in agreement with that decision, right?
Being transgender is not “100% socially acceptable”, period. Then again, lifting weights to build muscle or bench press 315 isn’t “socially acceptable”, so that’s kind of a weird standard to look for.
This seems relevant:
I was just about to comment that one of the more frustrating things reading the comments is that it looks like a lot of people forgot their civics lessons. My formal education was political science, and most times it makes me weep to read the internet.
But other times I can laugh at it too.
Fair enough. To be honest I just felt like venting. I’m gonna let this go and lift. One last thing, no matter my views, I have a great respect for what Krok has accomplished
Chris, thank you for the XKCD reference. It’s funny how often you can find something appropriate to the topic at hand in one of their web comics. Regarding Janae, I admire her courage in speaking out about this and I wish her the best.
To the people giving her shit, I would suggest they do some research and learn to show some respect.
Wasn’t Arnold given a multi-blockbuster movie career and then a governorship? We all know he used steroids.
I think you have biases.
Of course. But some of us are aware that we have them and can attempt to bring some balance to our thinking. Others are not, and when they are not and happen to post here and I happen to see it, I attempt to do it for them.
Bias isn’t a a four letter word.
It’s a heuristic for understanding the world in a way that is mostly correct without putting in the unrealistic amount of effort that would be required to be completely correct.

“Stupidity” seemed like a needlessly shaming word.
How easy is it for a man who believes he is a woman to get a full cycle of hormones prescribed by a doctor?
Now how easy is it for any other man?
My understanding is that one must go through 2-3 years of some sort of psychological therapy before being prescribed the hormones, with part of the process including living as the opposite gender before hormone treatment. But that’s just from some reading and no real in depth research.

I’m not sure about 2-3 years, but yes, there is a requirement that the person be in therapy and be signed off on by a qualified therapist before beginning to transition. I’ve been approached for this purpose and declined, feeling that I’m not informed enough to judge anyone’s fitness or lack thereof.

Thanks for the clarification. Always interesting to hear more.
I’m sure it’s probably different depending on what country you’re in but I know in the UK you need to have lived as the opposite gender for at least a year before you’ll be considered for any kind of hormone therapy, and there’s a shitload of therapy involved before then too.
Not that I’ve, like, researched it or anything…
