I don’t think the cake scene was gratuitous, maybe a bit overboard, but it did serve a purpose. The reason that Moravingian goes to the women’s bathroom to get a hummer is because he excited that woman enough and he followed her in there. “Cause and effect”. This allows Persephone to get away and lead them to the Keymaker. That part of the scene does further the plot. Who gives him the hummer or left the lipstick “not on his lips” is up for speculation of course.
"The previous incarnations of the ONE choose to save Zion but this NEO decides to save Trinity instead because of love. Is this right? "
It was confusing since the Architect made it seem he had to choose right away, then later Neo said he had 24 hours to decide.
Actually, the previous incarnations did not save Zion, they let (the physical) Zion fall, for the chance to rebuild another Zion. They did this because they believed the Architect that the other billions of people hooked up to the matrix would die if it were shut off.
But that’s not all, he had to download a copy of himself into the core, that way the machines would learn more of human behavior and how he became the Anomaly. This would give the machines greater power over humans and the Anomalies to follow, making eventual freedom less and less likely.
It depends on what you think is more important, to be alive and a slave, or to be free and possibly have many people die in the process. I suppose I would probably choose as the others did as well, if it were MY life, or the life of my fellow fighters who are willing, that’s one thing, but 6 billion other people’s lives? I don’t know.
I just felt I needed to add something here. All of you who have posted have really only seen HALF of the story (not counting Revolutions).
“Reloaded” was developed alongside the video game version “Enter the Matrix.” Both stories were written and directed by the Washowski brothers.
I wasn’t as impressed with the movie until I played the game. The more I play, the more correlating story line is revealed and the better the movie gets. So much has been made clear, so many other scenes that just enlighten you.
Buy the game, play the game. You don’t even have to buy an Xbox or anything…the game is out on PC. Buy not just because it’ll reveal more story and make your “Matrix” experience so much better, but also because it’s a great game and a lot of fun.
Or, just look for summaries online. Seriously, it will help.
After finishing the game, I’m going to see the movie again and probably enjoy it a lot more.
Hope this helps.
I hope this post FINALY gets through, it must be the 7th time i’ve tried.
Fitone, as a fellow Martial Artist, I can understand what you mean. However, Keanu has done a tremendous job, training 6 months strait, day after day with the worlds best martial artists and choreographers.
Now, back to practicing new Matrix Moves HAH!!
This movie was the SHITS!!!
Which means it sucked
If you had infinite power would you choose to punch and kick people in the face? Or would you burn them from the inside out with Hot-Rox!

Guys check out this site:
Vaines at least you understand where I am coming from.
Fitone- I completly understand.
Don’t be angry though, use this to inspire you.
Think about it, if Keanu Reeves, who never did any MA’s untill he got involved with The Matrix, he can be that good. Imagine, just imagine how great we could be. Train hard man, pm me for what martial art your doing. And who knows maybe we will get lucky enough to get trained 6 months strait, day after day by the worlds best, because god knows I think we deserve it.
MATRIX RELOADED ARCHITECT TRANSCRIPT:
Has some additional thoughts and comments too.
Additional line of thought. It all could be within someone’s head too. Left-side brain vs right-side brain (Neo representing the emotional right-side). Or just a Sid Meier sim (Sim Humanity) on a super-scale. Nobody knows…yet.
Anyway. The second film changed so much my point of view of the first that I wonder what kind of stunt they will pull-up, plot wise, if they wish to blow our minds even more in Revolutions.
Excellent film. In this ‘fast food film era’, it’s rare that a film leaves me with so much unanswered questions as this one. Or forces me to watch it a second time to better connect the dots and/or appreciate it even more. Arlington Road did it. Sixth sense did it.
Anybody have similar experiences ? Your film list would be appreciated.
Forgot two more:
Devil’s Advocate
Neon-Genesis Evangelion (specially the last episode)
An enlightened opinion:
A couple things. First off, I shouldn’t have to play a video game or watch a bunch of japanimation or see another 2 and a half hour movie to understand/enjoy the one I’m watching. The movie should stand and speak for itself. Not sure if anyone mentioned this, but Tank wasn’t in this becuase the dood playing him had impossible demands: ridiculous salary and even wanted his name on the top of the poster with Keanu and Lawrence. Also, The face that Carrie Ann Moss drove the motorcycle herself isn’t too impressive when the only cars on the road were CG, no way in hell she would be on that bike if there were any real danger.
And I keep hearing people say: “you can’t form an opinion until you see Revolutions, its just one big movie divided into 2” Bullshit. A movie should be able to stand on its own, and if it is just one big 5 hour movie, than the first half of it sucks. How many great movies have a horrible first half? I have high hopes for Revolutions, hopefully it’ll pull this franchise out of the shitter.
Hey all - just wanted to throw this out there. Saw reloaded. Went back and checked out the original again for the hell of it. Came to this scene where Morpheus is talking to a newly liberated Neo. He is discussing a man, born inside the Matrix that could bend it to his will (something along those lines). I believe they were discussing the prophesy and the Oracle. It seemed to me now that Lawrence F. was in fact talking about the original manifestation of Neo, the first appearance of the anomaly. He is talking to Neo about Neo, unaware (if there is anything to what I am saying) of that fact. In some fashion, the legend of this pod-born messiah has found it’s way through to this current version of the Matrix. I am sure this all seems obvious now, but it seemed like a cool little lightbulb moment when watching the original movie. I think the Oracle will turn out to be an ally after all. I think it was said that she was an intuitive program and being such I think she is sympathetic to the cause of the humans and is in a way setting things up for an eventual human victory. The obvious arrogance of the Architect in regards to the perfection of the Equation blinds him to this subterfuge. That is just this one man’s humble prediction, anyway. Would love to hear more on it. Thanks guys and gals.
I have to agree with Fragile. They can’t expect us to watch hours upon hours of a different genre of entertainment to “get” or enjoy the movie. Unless they want that one half of one percent of the population to really enjoy it, and pull in less than seven figures in ticket sales.
While we may not completely understand everything now, I also agree that we should be able to enjoy the movie without waiting six months to realize that we actually enjoyed what we thought was boring. Personally, I enjoyed the movie, but I think they could have tied up a few more loosed ends in this one. Oh well. I’ll still be there in November, so I guess it did its job.
I just looked up Keanu’s age. He is 39! He looks like he’s in his early twenties.
Or maybe Bill & Ted’s wasn’t just a story…
It’s amazing how few people actually understand all of the metaphysics presented in The Matrix and Matrix: Reloaded. Now I am NOT saying that if you did not like this film then you just didn’t understand it. Most of the complaints I’ve heard people talk about are definitely there and I feel the same way, but it’s always funny when someone says “and yes I understand the philosophy…” and yet are obviously unaware of 90% of the influences found in these films. Regardless of how you feel about this film, it is pretty amazing that these filmmakers have so effortlessly combined such significant metaphysical concepts (not 2, 3, 5…there are dozens of metaphysical and philosophical influences at work here) into an intricately contrived metaphor. Now the presence of those influences does not automatically make this a good film…although I happen to love it. The complaints I have heard about it are completely valid though. From a filmmaker’s perspective, Reloaded is definitely weaker than The Matrix, but I just love the material presented here. A flawed masterpiece, if you ask me. YMMV.
JOHN ROMAN. Could you explain me how the game changed your view of film? Thanks in advance!
I just finished the game (with Ghost) and have the impression that it just basically just answers the ‘Where were Ghost and Niobe all along in the film?’ question.
Nice to know, yes. Need to know, not sure. Too many parallels IMHO. Same encounters. Same dialogues. Just change the faces (example below).
Great game indeed nevertheless. Specially the playability and Bullet-Time (focus) option. =0)
Just thought I’d understand more of the film after beating it, but it just compounded my existing questions: What’s the kiss trip by Monica Belluci ? She does it with Keanu, does it with Ghost in the game … for what purpose? Is she just a succubus (as long as they put vampires in the film, why not demons…)? Same thing for that Merovingian dude - I see him more like an excuse to bring up a fight. Etc. Etc.
The game rocks!!! I just put it on my computer today. Love the spiralling dive through the air while I’m shooting my guns. The cartwheel gun strafing is fun too. So is the kicks off the walls and the grabbing the leg super throw. I’m just curious how the hell you beat that helicopter. You don’t regenerate there so it’s like murder to beat that thing. That and I’m not the best first person shooter out there. Well I’ve only played it for one day so. Ciao. ![]()
