I figure some people have already seen the movie and might want to discuss it, so it would be nice to start a thread for people who had already seen it.
DO NOT READ THIS THREAD IF YOU HAVE NOT SEEN THE MATRIX RELOADED.

I, for one, was both elated and dissapointed in the movie. I didn’t have huge expectations, only the same sort of filmaking from the first matrix - tight story, good action.
The second one seemed to forget too much about the characters and fetishize it’s own philosophical underpinnings, coming off as shallow and wanna-be-prophetic.
Plus, the transitions from sequence to sequence were waaaay too stuttered - for example, they go from key maker to the hallway (knocking out electrical systems) to the architect in like 6 minutes - but spend a stupid 10 minutes on that french guy and his wife. Didn’t make sense.
However, action sequences were top notch, chase scene on the freeway was incredible, etc.
I just wish they’d have stuck to what worked though, quality action and quality script, rather than a ton of the former with little of the latter.
I agree a little with Rumbach, but I must say it was a great flick. I think the Wachowski bros. got a good sum of money for using GM cars and a Ducati bike. Oh well, I can’t wait for the next one.
Did any of you feel like that whole “club” scene after Morpheus talks to everyone was way 2 long? It was like 3mins of cutting back and forth between people dancing, neo and trinity fucking and nipple shots! I have no problem with T&A but the movie didnt need it and that part dragged on and on!
Also i don’t know if any of you noticed this but remember the part where Neo is fighting all thoes identical agents after he sees the Oracle…that was all fucking CGI!! It started out as real people fighting and it was cool but then when all thoes agents started to come it turned into a fucking animated film! It ruined the whole fight scene for me cause the beauty of the matrix is real people bending the rules not a computer generated image!
And what was with the ending when Neo brought down thoes sentinanls or whatever!!! He doesnt have any power outside the matrix he is just human like everyone else! The only way that would make sence is if the matrix is inside another matrix…which i doubt.
Good story, poorly executed.
I agree the effects and action scenes were great, but the story was weak. Overall, I was disappointed. I loved the first one and this one was a let down.
Mike
Hey Hulk,
You brought a point that my friends and I discussed as soon as we walked out the doors of the movie, concerning Neo’s “power” in the real world. I think it might actually be possible that there are multiple layers to the Matrix. Hell, from what the Architect said, seems like just about anything is possible inside that damn machine, what with there already having been several Zions, versions of Neo, etc. Just pure speculation, but I wouldn’t count it out yet…
I agree that the club scene was not needed and kind of terrible. But… I loved the movie and I can live with one scene that I don’t like when the rest of the movie blows me away like that one did. But I can also see that scene getting harder to watch with every time I see it. That is what the >> button is for. I thought the story was great and there were a lot of twists that I did not expect. Great movie, I would recomend it to anyone and I’ll be seeing it again soon.
I agree that it was awesome and terrible at the same time. I didn’t like the different meanings of ways i.e. morpheus and fate, merovingian and causality, neo and choice, etc. It’s just all fucked up. The fight scenes were unreal BUT the Warchowski bro’s tried to do stuff that would take other people years to do because they were copied so much after the first movie. I do not feel they accomplished this. Where was it? It just seemed like they had more bullet time per fight scene. The only thing that may be difficult was the copying of Smith 100 times. Just don’t buy it.
Why the fuck didn’t Neo kill the creator of the Matrix? Take that pen he had and stab him in the throat? The speaking scenes sucked, but the action was great.
choise, cause and effect , fate or predetermind. are you guys crazy, that’s the best part. maybe over your heads. the whole point to this matrix films is that no one knows what is real, where we come from, god no god. how do you define reality, just like morphoeus says smell, sight, touch, al lelectrical response sinterpreted by our wet noodles. that’s whats so great about hte concept behind htemoveis we could be in it for all we know.lol
and yes cgi wasused how the hell else are they going to have 100 shots of smith fighting? duh. at least they took itto hte next level, most of the freeway scenes was real stunts by the actors not a lot of green screen. sorry for spelling in a ruch, will be back later
Really enjoyed it and so did my 12 year old son.
Bads, when they first arrive at Zion and the kid runs up, I thought oh no another JarJar Binks! The dance/sex scene after Morpheus’s speech totally pointless and again reminded me of Star Wars filler crap and unneccessary. During the multi-Smith fight Neo was so blatantly unhuman looking.
All that said I rate it very highly, action and fight scenes way cool, for entertainment it is great. I won’t even try to figure it out.
Ok, I think I skipped out on an important part to take a leak so can someone explain the ending to me? Who the heck was that guy opposite Neo and what as his signifcance?
My wife didn’t do a good job trying to explain it.
While I did think the scene went on a little long, there was definitely a point to the scene.
Dancing, rhythm, music, lust, love, passion. All things that are solely human, things that the machines cannot understand, and will never be. That scene was proof that we ARE different.
Also why Niobe points out that Morpheus “used to dance”. He has become so consumed by his quest to find The One and save mankind, that he has started losing that which makes him human. He’s starting to become so consumed by the result, he’s almost become like the machines.
BTW - on a second viewing, much more of the film makes sense. The Marivingian’s (sp?) whole speach about purpose, reason, causality. Why is Neo there? But also, what makes him different from the other "One"s. His love for Trinity, and how that makes Persephone jealous, leading them to the Keymaker. All different from the other Ones that have come.
It’s love that leads him to choose differently than the other incarnations, and what will probably eventually lead to mankind being saved.
At least, that’s my take on it.
a matrix within a matrix
different levels of reality-and causality
agents that neo destroyed-and set free- gaining the ability to download into the “real world”
i have a feeling that seeing the film again will help a lot-but that it will not make sense until the third installment.
keep in mind that these two movies were made at the same time and are being released so close together-
maybe there is no real world just like there is no spoon?
i thought that the whole scene with the french guy and persophene was one of the best scenes (except for the vamps-how cool was that!?!)
I can’t believe no one’s mentioned this. I completely did not agree with the seen where Persephone kissed Neo. She just wanted to “feel the love” or whatever romantic crap, right? Well, Trinity wss in love too. Persephone should have kissed Trinity.
Okay, that would be pandering to the utmost degree, so I’m glad they kept it the way they did. The rest of the movie was pretty fun.
As far as Neo’s powers outside the Matrix that we know of, didn’t Smith give a whole speech about how they are a part of each other? And then, at the end, they’ve got Neo and the Smith-filled human lying there on the tables. If it is true that part of one is in part of the other (and possibly vice versa), then wouldn’t Neo be able to at least communicate (feel, command, etc.) with the sentinels outside of the Matrix (as it seems that the Smith-filled human can)? Just a possibility.
Thunder, the guy on the table is the human who Smith ‘changed’ early on, 2 of them were exiting the matrix and 1 got caught and Smithed. He later is in Zion and has the knife, the kid runs up and he wishes Neo good luck.
On that scene what is with him (Smithed)cutting his hand? Damn! now you’ve got me trying to figure things out, aarrggghhh.
Jared, you could be onto something re Smith & Neo.
Re the ending, I had no issues with it, esp as it will be concluded shortly. If Rev. was say 18 months away different sory.
Finally, the cake scene was crass, didn’t need to do the up the legs bit.
I thought this movie was one of the best this year so far. The action sequence was unreal. I like that there was more storytelling in this movie also you guys need to see some of the animated matrix’s stuff it ties the whole movie together. I believe there are 9 installments. I don’t know where you can get them but maybe Patricia could help us out here.
Overall, I loved the movie. Though, I find it funny and ironic all the fight scenes were chorographed and directed by asians mostly Chinese.
Fitone
Though, I find it funny and ironic all the fight scenes were chorographed and directed by asians mostly Chinese.
Why is that funny and ironic?
best part of the movie was the architect. A fail safe built into a computer system to ensure its survival by turning our own humanity against us.
I find it funny and ironic that its the asian that are chorographed and directed but not acting in it excpet for that one scene.
I guess I am just find it funny and ironic as long as you have a good director and chorograph team you don’t need to have true martial artist anymore. People like Jet Li, Bruce Lee, will be obsolite.
Come on Keunue Revees a Martial Artist? Don’t you find that funny and ironic? Don’t get me wrong I love the movie and I’ll see it again.
But. I am getting tired of seeing people that don’t know anything about martial arts all of a sudden become great ones on film.
Like what’s up Chow Yung Fat he’s playing more roles that involved w/ kung fu fighting scene. Where his true skills are acting and gun battle scence. Give me a f- break.
Okay enough venting.
Saw the Matrix again tonight. I thoroughly enjoyed the scene with the Oracle–in fact–that is Reloaded’s revelation, but only on second viewing will you see how SICK and TWISTED it really plays out…more evil than Pavel Tsatsouline.
