OK, I have read Massive Eating, and it does look very good. But I do have a question: how important are the meal combination ideas, ie P+C and P+F, in making the program work? Are they absolutely essential? I am trying to lose a bit of fat and cut up before going on a bulking diet and T-Dawg doesn’t work well for me. I planned on doing the Don’t Diet approach. Could I still lose fat using his calorie/macronutrient guidelines without the combination ideas? I know they will just drive me nuts…
uh dude, the meal choices are the entire basis of massive eating/ don’t diet. Berardi has said many a time that ‘a calorie is not just a calorie’ and that the food choices are critical because of their effect on your metabolism. if you follow the calorie recommendations without the correct food choices you will be eating more calories than many ‘bulking diets’ and you’ll just get way fat. the meal combos aren’t as bad as you think anyway. just come up with a few stock meals and stick with them. you can expand your reportoire as time goes by.
You can follow the Massive Eating/Don’t Diet approach to meet your goals. It is important to use the correct meal combinations. I think your best bet is to consume carbs in the morning and post workout. Otherwise, try to consume more P+F meals to help accelerate fat loss. Or do something like John Berardi has explained in the article and consume P+C meals for your first three meals and then P+F meals for the rest of them. I believe this is a better approach rather than following T-Dawg or other similar diets that don’t allow any carbs. I feel that fruits and veggies are important and shouldn’t be eliminated.
Thanks guys, I will try and follow the combinations. I’m pretty new to this, so sorry if my questions sound dumb
