Masch Needs a New Log

Sooo…

Yesterday I DLed off the floor! yay!

This is what I did:

Trap bar - 5x 95, 120, 140, 165, 4x200, 5x185 < didn’t get that 200, next time!
Conv Dl - 5x95, 115, 135, 4x145
Sumo Dl - 2x10x135 < well, hello lover
Box squats (low riser) - 8x70, 80, 90, 100

Then I did some clean/snatch technique with just the bar. God, I hadn’t done a snatch in ages! Kinda intimidating.

I had a bunch of accessories that I cut out on. I was tired and hormonal. But I think I’ve decided to switch up my training and split this day into two. So it’ll be one big DLish day, and then the accessories on a separate day in a circuity-type deal. Maybe do 4x4 on the DLs?

A few notes on the DLs:

  • Overhand is much harder than I expected, didn’t even attempt snatch grip. I put on my straps at 135.
  • Sumo, i love, but it feels a bit icky. I think the bar rubs right along where they put a screw in. I’m going to try again when I’m not all bloated and shit.

Overall my form might be fuck-all! I’m going to get some vids next time, and would love some feedback.

Also, I checked my log and the last time I formally DLed was in February. My conventional was 5x180 and my sumo was 5x200. Yikes! That’s a long ways away!

Anywho, tomorrow I have PT in the am, and then in the PM I’m going to do my accessories. I’m trying to moderate, but I feel pretty good! I’m excited about my training for once. lol!

I’m noticing one disconcerting trend and this is that I keep adding exercises to my day. I know its bad, but I can’t help it! I want to do it all, and I think I can! Plus whatevs. Soo…yeah. I might asshat it for a while.

Today’s upper was:

Push press - 6x65, 75, 80, 4x90 < I got that 90 the next time

Olympic press/MPs - 8x65, 8x65 (strict), 4x75 (strict), 8x70

Pullups - 4x1x10, then 5x10 assisted < random trainer wants to help me. Awkward!

Seated OHP - 8x35, 7x35, 6x35, 8x30

Flat bench - 7x35, 5x35, 8x30, 9x30 < am technically supposed to do floor presses, but there was no floor

Atlas pushups - 5, 4, 3, 3 < these are MUCH harder than I remember. Also I got more last time I did these

Dips - 6, 6, 5, 5, < technically I should be repping 7s here! These are suffering from the volume I reckon

Also, I set up today next to a guy who was squatting PL style a little over 300. Not too shabby! We got to talking. He’s cute!

And finally, I’m trying to get better with the supps and stuff, so I bought a new protein powder. Cookies and Cream. So freaking nauseating! It taste’s like raw cake batter, which as we know could only taste good if you just ripped a couple of bongs hits. Otherwise, not so much.

Ok, that’s it! I’m going to try to hone things in a bit. I might be getting a little too wiley for my own good here. We’ll see.

And while I’m on my way to PT in a bit, I just thought I’d add:

On Weds I had my PT girl look at my troublesome hip flexor and achey hip. Finally a breakthrough! She basically said that because my hip flexor is tight, its making my hip internally rotate, which is what’s causing the hip pain. She said its likely due to my bum knee and all the months of compensating with my good leg. This makes sense to me since the pain just started a few months ago after my surgery!

Basically, I was advised to keep doing what I’m doing - rolling, stretching, releasing the flexor, etc. AND get my left leg really on point, so that i don’t keep depending on the right one for help!

I’m actually glad to hear all of this because I have been noticing that a) my flexor actually feels looser/longer (weird right?) and b) my left glute is starting to work! The only problem is that I still feel some hip pain sometimes…it comes while I’m at work, so maybe the sitting?

Either way, I’m going to keep doing what I’m doing. And I just got my escogue book in the mail! So hopefully with that I can cure what ails me :slight_smile:

Its amazing how fast it goes, like for me even between sets, I have to remind myself what I just did 2 minutes ago.

Me too on the hip tightness, sitting at a desk all day long doesn’t help either. At least you know what you have to work on. Work it girly, like I know you do!

I really think the egoscue is going to help…i would look at the exercises for condition 1 to get started right away and then you can back track and read. It will be interesting to see what you find with the static back press and the supine groin stretch?

I always love it when the doc says “keep doing what you are doing” because its the only thing I’m going to listen to anyway.

oh my GOD. cookies and cream flavor rarely is even close to drinkable. and i will pretty much drink/eat anything but fuck no on that!

I suggest my time favorite–the GNC brand whey in banana. I LOVE it! …might not be for everyone but i can’t do vanilla, chocho, or any flavor remotely normal for whey after over doing them for years. I’d like to try the whey cooler stuff which is basically protein juice…hmm.

When I was doing them, I could run maybe 4 or 5 sets on the snatch/c&j before my mental fortitude broke down and I just couldn’t remember wtf I was doing! For me, Oly lifts are a complete neurological wrecking ball. I used to leave the gym so mentally drained…its insane.

Weeeell, I did my research and consulted a bunch of people who know a thing or two about rehabbing back into strength training (including my friend Javi, featured above)…so its not like I just figured shit out all on my own. HAH! And no more “post surgery” - from here on, we’re all systems go on the weight lifting (agility work, not yet). I have to stop thinking of myself as someone who “just” had surgery. It has been 4 months now, after all…and no, girl! You’re workouts trump mine ten-fold! You’re mad strong, bitch! But imma catch you!

Training is…going.

I’m having slight issues with my training mo-jo. I want to lift, but then when I get into the gym I’m all, “meh.” I think I just need to FOCUS. Its like my brain is on overdrive - I WANT, WANT, WANT - but my body is tired and/or uncoordinated…

I think this is partly due to my split getting all fucked up schedule-wise and lack of sleep and being overworked. But I think its also due to the fact that I’m finding my fellow gym goers always in my mother fucking way! Its so fucking annoying. Yes I need all these items for my front foot elevated BSS, yes I need these boxes for my box squats, yes I need these balls for my pushups (metaphoric?) - can everyone please just leave the gym for two hours? kthnx!

Next few days I’m going hit shit hard, culminating in DL day on Thanksgiving before I demolish some of my mom’s Osso Buco (we don’t do Turkey, we’re immigrants). Whoop it up, bitches!!
