MarkKO's Training Log

“Loaf of bread” for head and “bone cruncher” for dentist(?) are also fun.

Nice rows!

Wait, you guys use rhyming slang too? When did this start?

Not sure what you mean by ‘you guys’. If you mean Aussies then yes they have rhyming slang but their phrases are sometimes different from the UK.
I’m from the UK so I use a mix of phrases.

Woke at 261.7 lbs, looking similar to the last few days. Got eight hours on the CPAP but kept waking up so not as well rested as I might be. Still pretty decent though.

@queen_cobra thanks, you are very kind.

I did mean Aussies, I figured it was just a UK thing

Yes, my stepson.

Other terms include sprog, ankle-biter, rugrat and spawn. I just refer to him as munchkin though.

Woke at 262.8 lbs, looking a bit less bloated. I triple checked both. Win. Got around seven hours on the CPAP but woke up a bunch again. Feel ok though.

My dad keeps bustin’ my balls about getting the sleep test. I fall asleep fairly easy around 9:30 or 10, but I sleep so light that I wake up a ton (also piss at least once a night) and then wake up around 5:30 for work or the kids waking me up. He thinks I need the sleep test but I never wake up out of breath like some of the folks I know with sleep apnea do. But I am constantly tired…it’s getting old. I wake up and it takes a couple of hours to really wake up and then I get really tired at about 2 until my head its the pillow at night. From what I hear just about everyone that gets tested…ends up with sleep apnea. I’m not overweight, and I don’t snore unless congested. Probably just need to get it done…but hate that I everyone I know that has been tested has tested positive.

Get it done man, you’ll feel better when you actually sleep. The test is a bit of a hassle but it’s worth it.

Remember that it isn’t just being tired, the blockage puts a lot of strain on your heart. It increases your risk of stroke and shit.

Really happy to hear how much your sleep is improving already and looking forward to see how this effects your recovery and strength going forward. do you think your extra mass has made the sleeping worse or you’ve always have an issue ?

I think I’ve always had an issue, but the mass tipped it over the edge. Things definitely went downhill once I hit 250+

Didn’t ACT just legalise possession last week?

I believe they did, however our local State Gov does like to put all sorts of shit in place, fence everything off etc to keep us safe

They legalised possession of small amounts (I have no idea how much in grams) and up to two plants per person that may not be grown hydroponically or some shit.

It’s a pretty stupid law that doesn’t really change anything.

I was trying to think of how to phrase this question politely and delicately but then I remembered you’re an Aussie and can hack it.

How have people outside your inner circle reacted to your weight gain? I mean, we here (and presumably your family/friends) know it’s a case of “Mark’s put on weight, but he’s gotten real fuckin’ strong”.

On the other hand, those who don’t know you as well just think “damn, Mark got fat”. Have you had any weirdness/comments? Obviously this would only come from people you don’t really care about and is moot, but just wondering how other people have reacted.

What I think when I hear aussies

Woke at 260.4 lbs, still that bit less bloated. Got just under eight hours on the CPAP.

@mattjp good question. Definitely no weirdness. I’ve had one guy ask if I’ve gotten bigger at work, but we’ve chatted about trying to gain weight in the past so I guess that doesn’t count. It’s actually a really interesting question now I think about it. Munchkin asked me a few times why I didn’t want muscles any more, which was funny. I explained.

@queen_cobra funny story, the gym I trained at before Ultra was owned by a couple of married bodybuilders. The man was a fireman.

Devastating burn from the wee one.

He has some good ones. Usually Mrs KO cops it way worse than I do.

Although, today, she got her own back. He was being difficult about bath time, in his surprisingly advanced logical and passive aggressive way. It’s the school holidays so timing isn’t an issue and after some time of us both trying to convince him, Mrs KO decided it wasn’t worth the grief at the moment.

So she just says, listen to me, I have one thing to tell you: see you next Tuesday.

I almost choked trying to keep my laugh quiet because when you text speak it its C U Nxt Tuesday.

Todays training

Really didn’t want to train, so I made sure to go because I’ve been getting slack Just because its deload isn’t an excuse to cop out.

So I compromised

No warmup stuff because I’m super smart

Squat
Worked up to
5x3x275 lbs - in socks because fuck changing shoes

Took 10 second rests just to make it a little bit of work and see how my head held up. All fine.

Bench press
5x3x154 lbs

Tool 10 second rests again.

So squats felt better than they have in a long fucking time - like pre back tweak.

Bench also felt light AF (well, no shit, it’s only 154 lbs, but that’s my 50%) to the point that I’m pretty sure I’d have hit around 308 lbs today without issue.

Maybe all this shit that has made it easier for me to slack off was happening simply because I wasn’t recovering well enough. Perhaps the CPAP and a couple of weeks of what was effectively a deload is what I needed.
