Just soreness. I’m terrible at hamstring curls so I always feel them for a few days.
Posterior chain soreness is just weakness leaving the body. Anterior chain soreness is the worst thing ever. Have you ever had pecs/delts so sore that you couldn’t even squat until you rolled them out while it felt like you were rubbing broken glass into your pecs?
No, not from memory. Quad soreness is pretty nasty though.
When I went to HS I had to go up and stairs at a quick rate a few times a day, and I was running the russian squat routine (18 working sets of squats a week) during the school year at one point.
The day after I had to do 6 sets of 6 at 80% was just torture.
Aside from smolov, and Train Stupid it was probably one of the worst (as in most uncomfortable) squat sessions I’ve ever had. I had done it in about 25 minutes after running like half a mile on a scorching hot day. I was just dry heaving on a bench afterwards and I remember after the gym session when I was doing my usual bullshitting/posturing with friends I just lost all of my feeling in my left arm and I started to black out. I think I was blacking out during every set of those squats too (so RPE 10? haha). I went to the nurse because blacking out and losing feeling in your arm about 30 minutes after squatting isn’t particularly normal. They had just yelled at me (didn’t even take vitals) and told me I was overexerting myself.
I did take my squat from 455 to 495 in 6 weeks though, so that was nice.
Woke at 218.5 lbs, looking decent. Had an amazing sleep too, which is a bonus.
Today’s training
Leg extensions, GHR sit-ups, lateral jumps and broad jumps
Squat, mono
All beltless
5xbar
3xplate/143 lbs
2x2 plates/231 lbs
Middle back still noticeably stiff from that crack last week
5x3x253 lbs
20x253 lbs, rest pause (12, rack, 3, rack, 5)
5x253 lbs
All work sets with five second rests. Total took five minutes and 20 seconds
That’s my first defeat since joining Team Panora. Weight moved fine, but I just ran out of juice. Sitting back is definitely the key for depth for me, BTW. Every time I sat back enough depth was spot on, every time I didn’t depth was off.
BBer squats (no lockout, also moved to high bar and slightly narrower stance)
2x10x253 lbs - surprisingl comfortable. Shoulder mobility seems to have miraculously improved
DB goblet squats
25x100 lbs - these were fine, probably because I went as fast as possible so my legs wouldn’t notice what was happening
45 degree back raises
3x15 at bodyweight
DB rows
3x10x120 lbs - going to need to move to 130s soon
Took my time today, after that 20 rep clusterfuck. Was in for two hours, of which a decent portion was spent helping Judith, a very nice lady in her 70s with a work ethic that puts a bunch of people half her age to shame. Ex-airforce too, so there’s a lot of banter.
Serious effort mate!
LMAO! Is that your secret?
Also, has your wife ever walked in on you doing your poses??
I’m not entirely sure the truth would be much help either
Frequently. When I was at my leanest I posed in pretty much any mirror I could find. Now I just do it occasionally. Munchkin now knows how to pose too. He is somewhat more adorable than I am.
Apparently. I think if I’d done that on my set of squats I would have gotten through without pauses - except I wouldn’t have been resetting each rep, so no technique practice, which would have kind of defeated the point.
Is it your birthday?
No, forum sign up anniversary. Different cake for birthdays
Happy anniversary
Merry anniversary
happy forum b-day
Hope the wife is feeling better now and it doesn’t/didn’t spread through your household. And burgers for the flu is genius! If you are gonna toss it up anyway, may as well eat some sh*t! lol
Happy Forum T-nation Mark.
Getting bigger man, looking strong ![]()
You and the lady both have great work ethic
Woke at 218.2 lbs, looking decent. Due disclosure, I’ve gone significantly over calorie budget five out of the last seven days. Weight and appearance aren’t changing. Really not complaining ![]()
Thanks everyone! Mrs KO is better, and munchkin and I seem to have avoided the flu. Maybe the burgers did help after all.
@mortdk thanks, but there’s something special about someone’s grandmother standing in front of the bar and muttering to herself ‘just fucking lift it’… I found out yesterday she’s got a patch of skull missing from the back of her head from where a brain tumour was removed too.
