MarkKO's Training Log

This many times over

That poster is behind me at the platform I normally lift on, often times doing power jerks (which just so happens to be his style of jerking). When I get not fat, I want to be able to have my abs showing through my singlet.

Woke at 197.6 lbs, looking good.

Took some measurements
Waist at navel 96 cm, up 3.5 cm (going to go ahead and blame carb feed last night for this as mirror does NOT reflect it)
Shoulders at armpits 130 cm, up 3 cm
Chest at nipples 111 cm, no change
Both biceps 35 cm, up 1 cm
Both thighs 64 cm, no change

Pretty happy. Waist is an aberration I guess. Because scale weight and mirror show little to make it seem realistic I’ve added 3.5 cm of chub.

congratulations on you wedding. and welcome to the 96cm waist club, lol. I have an agreement with my wife as long as my chest is in the same plane as the stomach she don’t mind it, but now the stomach is a bit forward, gonna have to loose it or tuck it in in front of her, lol

Today’s training

90 degree back raise for a bunch

SGDL off 10 cm blocks, beltless, straps on stiff bar
10x132 lbs, hook grip
8x220 lbs, straps on
3x10x330 lbs, under 6, under 6 and 6 RPE - up to 352 lbs next week. Work sets done in eight minutes. Surprised how easy these were.

Squat
5xbar
5x143 lbs (plate)
5x225 lbs (two plates)
5x319 lbs (three plates), open belt
3x10x363 lbs, 6, 7-8 and 8-9 RPE in about 18 minutes - last set left me on the floor. On rep eight got a sharp stabbing pain in my head that stuck around for around 10 minutes after the set, nausea for around 20.

Left it here. All up took an hour and 25 minutes or so, not counting the half hour before I was OK to drive.

I think I’ll drop squats back to 319 lbs next week but go for four sets of 10 or something.

I’m confused by your weights. I know you use kg plates by the 22 lb jumps but those numbers don’t make sense. 225 is two plates for those of us who don’t use the metric system. Three plates is 315. I’m sure you know this. I just can’t figure your odd numbers lol

He’s taken kilos and converted. In kgs, you make 10kg jumps, and 10kg ~ 22lbs. I think your 45lb/25lb plates aren’t exactly the same weight as our 20kg/10kg plates, but are similarly sized

Edit: my bad, didnt actually read your question properly. Yeah, that is weird

@Frank_C @j4gga2 I use a Texas squat bar which weighs 55 lbs (25 kg), so yes, confusing weights if you don’t know that.

That’s a nice session & beast effort on that third set!

Stabbing pain in the head would worry me a bit, not so much about the pain itself but just in general creating so much pressure in that region. I bet you can focus on it a bit more next time and relax more or “shift the pressure” more towards your airways / chest / stomach etc?

peace!

Pressure in the head happens, luckily not often. I think it’s partly something about the bar on my back hitting a pressure point or something. My left ear was ringing after the first set, and the pain was in the left side so maybe related?

Also, thanks. I was pleased.

I get this fairly regularly too. Good to know I’m not a special snowflake

I have two indicators of a squat set being properly taxing: ringing ear/s and/or twitching arsehole.

Now I know what to aim for

I never had toxic squat indicators. I have a toxic run indicator though, ear related as well: losing hearing somewhat means i’m very dehydrated (happened a few times in the hottest/most humid days of the summer). Seems to be related to water loss. Seems to take 8-10 lb of water loss though, lmao.

Twitching arsehole sounds srs. You’re getting a bit more MU recruitment than most people. 8|

Ever get these on ME runs? Sprints etc?

These aren’t common occurrences, BTW. They’re proper red letter in the training log days. To date I’ve had less than 10 squat sets like that.

Nope. Never any stuff like that, other than stomach/abdominal cramping, during speed work, races, training etc… So I guess I could throw stomach/abdominal cramping into the toxic indicator mix, but that’s usually related to diet, not so much effort.
