Marathon Runner Looking Dude Dabbling in Oly Lifts

Thanks George, stomping and fist shaking are added to the list. I’ve got a week in late August when I can work on them.

Thanks for stopping in your Orgeness, and for answering bluebrasil’s question.

Tony, who is Howie Mandel?

Thanks for dropping in bluebrasil, Orge is right about the notation.

Thanks Joe, no guarantees on the tantrums. My mom and wife might disagree, but I’ve never been very good at them.

The 113 and 115’s.

Training 3/25/2011

Clean and Jerk: 60x2, 70x2, 80x1, 85x1, 90x1, 95x1, 100x1, 104x1, 107x1, 110x1 (inadvertent power clean), 113x1, 115x0,0

Missed the clean on the first 115, thinking too much about the hamstring which isn’t much of a concern on these anymore, and forgetting to get my elbows up for the catch. Fixed that on the second one, but started to pass out before the jerk. Very pleased with the bar path on the cleans. Jerks will be better when I’m fresher.
The only real problem with the hamstring on cleans now is having to hit the bottom of the catch soft. Makes the recovery more of a grind than it should be.

Comedian from a decade ago or so. He’s doing bad TV now. Part of his routine was to vocalize a joke with his mouth closed, laugh and then say “It was an inside joke.”

Extremely diappointed in your lack of self control and display of immaturity during your tantrum. Other than that, looking good. Never really appreciated the complexity and nuances of Oly lifting til I started following your thread. Danny John says it’s never to late to get limber enough to do the technique but I kinda disagee with him there.

Tantrum? I could give you some lessons there.

I love that you’re such a purist.

Yeah, my money’s on you as well for the upcoming competition.

Try watching reruns of The Incredible Hulk. You’ll get some great ideas.

aw, i’m having trouble because my computer takes a long time to start the vids then gives up a quarter of the way though. connection should be better during the week (less traffic).

well, even with the tantrum, I’m glad to see your ham is almost healed

Thanks for the explanation Tony. Sounds like it could either be real funny, or just kinda dumb.

Yeah Harry, I’m very ashamed. Not only did I loose control, but from what they are telling me, I didn’t even do it very well. Like I said, I’ll practice so that if it ever happens again, it will be worth watching.

Thanks Snapper. I’ll take you up on those lessons. What should I do first?

Cavalier, I have never seen Mr. Hulk. No TV (except for a few years back in grad school so I could watch the Donkeys play football. I don’t think its possible to live near Denver and not be a fan.)

Alexus, slow internet sucks. Mine creeps along at a pretty slow rate too. One of the disadvantages of living in a rural area.

John, its not there yet, but probably close enough. More ice when I get done here.

Last three snatches.

Training 3/28/2011

Snatch: 50x2, 60x2, 65x1, 70x1, 75x1, 80x1, 85x1, 90x0,1, 93x1 Stopped there, right knee is feeling a bit wrong. Hamstring not noticeably better than last week. Still slowing the first pull considerably.

5/3/1 C3 W1 Bench:
67x5
71x5
76x9

85x1, 91x1, 96x1, (71x5)3
Pendlay Rows, (71x5)3, RDLs 71x10

Icing hammie now.

good. I was afraid I was gonna have to come over there…

Quick question Carl if you’re still around. I’m just off to lift in 5 minutes, what you said about putting pressure on the hands to stop the elbows bending, do you mean as if to bend the bar down into a smile (U) or trying to bend it up into a frown (n)?. Thanks for a quick response, otherwise I’ll have a go tomorrow.

Brett, neither of those. Push back on the bar, towards your body.

Nice lifts in spite of the hammy Carl. I really enjoy watching the speed you generate during your pulls. It never ceases to amaze me

Which day do you lift? Fri/Sat/or Sunday?

If I don’t get back in time: safe travel and best wishes Carl!

Kevin

Thanks Wilson. My training motto starts off with “If you can’t get strong…you might as well _______”

Kevin. I lift Saturday at 1:00. Thanks for the well wishes.

Training 3/29/2011

Clean & Jerk: 60x2, 70x2, 80x1, 85x1, 90x1, 95x1, 100x1, 104x1, 108x1 Did all power cleans, the knee wrongness from yesterday has me lifting very conservatively. Feels like a bruise under the medial side of the patella. Jerks were very solid.

5/3/1 C2 W1 Squats

92x5
98x5
104x5

Just the minimum reps. Knee was painful, but not prohibitively so, kinda balanced out the hamstring from the other side. Feels better now than before or during squats. Still needing to hit the bottom real soft.

RDLs: 80x10

Time to ice. Both hammie and knee get it today.

Cool - My teammates will be there: Dave Sneberger (60/105) will lift Friday evening@ 7PM. He’s recently done 86/108 /with a 130 FS and 157.5 BS - did I mention that he is 60? My role model!

My coach, Regis Becker, lifts Saturday @ 11AM.

Sorry to hear you are feeling a bit beat up. Hope your meet goes well.

Don’t know why I’m still having trouble with viewing your vids… Wherever you uploaded it to seems problematic for my internet sometimes (other peoples vids, too). Sure it will sort itself out…

Is your meet this Saturday? Somehow I thought it was later in the year.
